egg: why do we need an Akkadian cuneiform font/keyboard?
<umbralraptop>
WeylandsWings: you want to properly format your description of fighting and killing the monster humbaba, right?
<umbralraptop>
And, like, what happens if you get inferior grade copper?

WeylandsWings: re. the keyboard, what umbralraptop said (and also whenever you want to write diplomatic correspondence)

(or talk about astronomical phenomena)
<egg|laptop|egg>
re. the font, https://github.com/eggrobin/Nabuninuaihsus is a somewhat separate thing, but that is needed because neo-assyrian signs look nothing like their OB counterparts (and for the most part Noto goes for the OB forms—though really it goes for some more abstract « most differentiated » thing)
<egg|laptop|egg>
e.g. 𒐣 is just two of 𒊹 logically; in noto it looks like 𒄭𒄭 which is normal in OB or even neo-Sumerian times, but 𒊹 doesn’t because otherwise it would be indistinguishable from 𒄭

Today in cursed things: & existing to both seperate columns in a LaTeX table and as characters in the standard reference format (so I have a pile that need to be wrapped in \ref{foo})
<umbralraptop>
I guess it's pretty mild since the annoying part is adding them to my references.bib and some regexes?

<galois>
umbralraptop: yes
<umbralraptop>
Other examples of astronomers naming things that aren't clever acronyms include Everest (a data reduction package for Kepler data during the K2 mission)
