@ Pinkbeast, if a ship was lost at sea with all hands in around 1807, I assume the captain would be blamed; is there a particular thing the captain would be charged with, for the crew's deaths?

there is context that makes this make sense

Iskierka: Assuming the captain is a survivor and this is a naval vessel, I believe he would be court-martialled for the loss of the vessel. The crew's deaths, sad to say, get rolled into that.
<Pinkbeast>
But I'm not sure I'm more than very slightly better than uninformed guesswork.
<Pinkbeast>
Likewise I think the master of a civilian vessel would be tried for the loss of the vessel in some fashion.
<Pinkbeast>
But here in 1855 http://www.st-keverne.com/History/john/trial.html is a master being tried for manslaughter (but of one person on the ship with 190 killed, so I wonder if something's going on there. (Perhaps because this passenger is the one whose corpse washed ashore into the coroner's jursidiction?)
<Pinkbeast>
Of this I'm most sure that the loss of a naval vessel would result in a court martial.

Interesting, though turned out I didn't need it in the end. was going for a secret achievement in Return of the Obra Dinn
<Iskierka>
turns out you don't need to be specific about how, just blame the captain for every death ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
<Iskierka>
I was asking because of title and description; "Captain Did It; Loosely true, in the eyes of Company and Crown."
