<Mike`> i was under the impression that an "instant impulse" burn would automatically be "inertially fixed", but that doesn't seem to be the case *scratches head*

<awang> Mike`: Does it make sense for an instant impulse burn to be inertially fixed?
<awang> Inertially fixed would imply that something needs to be fixed over time, right?
<awang> And an instant impulse takes place in an instant
<Mike`> thats why i thought ticking/unticking inertially fixed would not make a difference, but it does make a huge difference
<awang> Hrm
<awang> Maybe the flight planner picks a different heading for instant impulses if inertially fixed is checked?
<Mike`> the flightplan i got using inertially fixed and instant impulse together worked fine with my 30s srm burn, the one i got without inertially fixed was off by about 50%
<awang> Hm
<awang> idk, this is a bit above my pay grade, unfortunately :(
<Mike`> np :)
<Mike`> same here

<egg> Mike`: the "instant impulse" thing is a hack, it's actually implemented as "very fast"
<egg> "inertially fixed" should have little effect on it
<egg> but yeah, it's not very meaningful
<egg> Mike`: it *can* have a small difference if your trajectory strongly depends on initial conditions
<egg> s/small/non-small/
<Qboid> egg meant to say: Mike`: it *can* have a non-small difference if your trajectory strongly depends on initial conditions

<Mike`> hm. in my case, it was an apogee kick maneuver coming from an inclined transfer orbit from the cape and wanting to get into a geostationary orbit. But yeah, it being "very fast" probably explains it. Thanks.
