egg changed the topic of #principia to: Logs: https://esper.irclog.whitequark.org/principia | <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly…

<queqiao-> ⟨Penumbra⟩ does anyone have a nice RO modpack(ckan) with principia in it? dont mind what version its for either
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ no
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ Principia is not on ckan.

<queqiao-> ⟨Penumbra⟩ ⟪Butcher⟫ Principia is not on ckan. ⮪ thanks for providing a useful response
<queqiao-> ⟨Stonesmile⟩ Well, it's hard to have a CKAN modpack with a mod that isn't on CKAN
<queqiao-> ⟨Penumbra⟩ ⟪Stonesmile⟫ Well, it's hard to have a CKAN modpack […] ⮪ that would make perfect sense to someone aware of that fact
<queqiao-> ⟨Stonesmile⟩ That said; Principia works well with RSS, so any modpack on CKAN that uses RSS can have Principia installed on top of it manually
<queqiao-> ⟨Penumbra⟩ ⟪Stonesmile⟫ That said; Principia works well with […] ⮪ Thank you
<queqiao-> ⟨Penumbra⟩ To be clear, it was not satire in my response to Butcher, the "no" with 7 emotes on it would be entirely un-useful to someone who clearly wasn't aware that it isn't on ckan, as I clearly was or would not have asked
<raptop> Principia's distribution has some intentional limitations to minimize people running into compatability issues and/or blaming it for unrelated bugs
<raptop> In particular it cannot and will never play nice with some systems/planet packs. RSS (for obvious reasons) works, but the stock system does not. (Hence eg: the retrobop)
<queqiao-> ⟨Rockstar04 (He/Him)⟩ ⟪Penumbra⟫ To be clear, it was not satire in my […] ⮪ It's a question that's repeatedly asked and is clearly covered in principia's documentation, so the regulars here get really tired of answering it.
<queqiao-> ⟨*ਜੰਗਲੀ ਆਦਮੀ*⟩ any fixes for the slideshow time warp
<queqiao-> ⟨*ਜੰਗਲੀ ਆਦਮੀ*⟩ or is it just principia simulating the crafts and nothing can be done
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ If you refer to problems without context (what time warp factor? how many crafts? how much noodles? what are you doing and looking at?) you are not going to get useful answers.
<queqiao-> ⟨*ਜੰਗਲੀ ਆਦਮੀ*⟩ i mean timewarping with a few crafts in orbit in the ksc
<queqiao-> ⟨*ਜੰਗਲੀ ਆਦਮੀ*⟩ timewarping a day or so
<queqiao-> ⟨*ਜੰਗਲੀ ਆਦਮੀ*⟩ it turns into a slideshow
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ At any warp factor? That doesn;t sound like principia's problem.
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ * doesn't
<queqiao-> ⟨*ਜੰਗਲੀ ਆਦਮੀ*⟩ not any i mean 4 or 6 ticks
<queqiao-> ⟨*ਜੰਗਲੀ ਆਦਮੀ*⟩ or when i click the warp to craft completion
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ Egg, is there a way to specify the reference body for the orbit analyser?
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ No, is it screwing up?
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ Not really, it's technically correct, but not what I want.
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ hmm
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ what is it you want :-p
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ I'm launching more DRO lunar sats and the analyser is using Earth as the reference, but I'd rather it used the Moon.
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ I can eyeball some of the useful data from the MEO view, but it would be nice to analyse.
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ I believe if it is using the Earth it is because it would fail with the Moon
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ Oh, possibly. I'm not really inside the Hill sphere of the Moon I think.
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ The problem is that this is no longer a Keplerian orbit, so most of the analyser falls on its face
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ what information are you looking for? also, what does your orbit look like?
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ I'm looking for period info.
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ It looks reasonable sensible in MEO.
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ It's a bit loose currently, but I'm planning to tighten it up with a manoeuvre at some point.
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ I also have this sat which has been out there for 3950 days.
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ These orbits are very stable which makes them nice comms orbits.
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ yeah. The problem is that all those things, including the periods, are calculated by taking the osculating orbit about the moon and then averaging over one period. There are probably points here where you are on an escape trajectory were the Earth not around.
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ So this would require defining a different concept of period, which is… hard.
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ True, I suppose the analyser is looking at something more like this:
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ Which is less obviously periodic or a sensible ellipse.
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ oh yeah, that too; the analyser analyses in a non-rotating frame.
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ In the surface frame it looks fine, I assume that's an artefact of the Moon being tidally locked.
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ yes, MCMF and MEO are largely the same.
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ I shall just use the MEO noodles I think then.
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ Trying to phase three sats into a DRO cluster, I'm not sure if this is actually viable or if they'll all drift into a clump, but we'll see.
