Hey all! How are you all doing? New here.

<VITAS[m]>
hi
<VITAS[m]>
HebaruSan: its not about making a plan but to continue working on a project allready going for a bit
HebaruSan[m] has joined #spacedock
<HebaruSan[m]>
<span class="d-mention d-user">VITAS</span> I don't know what you mean by that, but what's the answer regarding the test server?
<VITAS[m]>
im answering regarding the frontend plan
<VITAS[m]>
theres no need to talk about the how
<HebaruSan[m]>
Oh, I kind of wanted to get started on it
<VITAS[m]>
but its allready going :)
<VITAS[m]>
DasSkelett: can fill you in i talked to him for quite a bit yesterday
<VITAS[m]>
the basic idea is to first make dummy sites in the adminlte fork for every view and then when everything is how it should be transfer them into templates
<VITAS[m]>
there are allready some dummys in adminlte that represent sd views
<VITAS[m]>
you can simply add to that
<HebaruSan[m]>
Yeah, the AdminLTE fork is worth talking about, it's repeating the same mistake the legacy code made with editing parts of bootstrap
<VITAS[m]>
there are some rules we came up with regarding styling and code
<HebaruSan[m]>
Read the installation instructions and note that they do not say to fork AdminLTE:
<VITAS[m]>
and how is that edeting bootstrap?
<HebaruSan[m]>
As I noted, the upstream project is already 229 commits ahead, you're missing out on stuff they're doing
<HebaruSan[m]>
...?
<HebaruSan[m]>
Sorry, seems obvious to me
<HebaruSan[m]>
It just is
<HebaruSan[m]>
the same
<VITAS[m]>
yes
<VITAS[m]>
no it isnt
<HebaruSan[m]>
USE the project, don't fork it
<HebaruSan[m]>
You're not planning to submit fixes and enhancements back upstream to the AdminLTE team
<VITAS[m]>
we wont copy over css files to sd code
<HebaruSan[m]>
You're working on a project that will use it as a dependency, just do that
<HebaruSan[m]>
We shouldn't have AdminLTE in the SD user at all
<VITAS[m]>
only tml code we write
<VITAS[m]>
html
<VITAS[m]>
you are upset
<VITAS[m]>
talk to DasSkelett
<HebaruSan[m]>
Again with putting words in people's mouths, what is it with you
<HebaruSan[m]>
I do, all the time
<HebaruSan[m]>
I don't think he's going to convince me that forking AdminLTE makes sense
<HebaruSan[m]>
Maybe he'll be able to convince YOU that it doesn't 😉
<HebaruSan[m]>
So no test server, OK
<VITAS[m]>
lets have a voice chat with us 3 and talk about it. we are missunderstanding each other a bit here
<HebaruSan[m]>
Can I listen and type? I like the privacy of text
<VITAS[m]>
the privicy of text is what gets us in these problems
<VITAS[m]>
i want to get out of it and found that talking helps
<VITAS[m]>
:)

DasSkelett: HebaruSan when would be a good time to do a voip call ?
DasSkelett[m] has joined #spacedock
<DasSkelett[m]>
Looks like the database just had some problems.
<VITAS[m]>
in what way?
<DasSkelett[m]>
Production was very slow (netkan bot spammed a lot of inflation errors), alpha and beta returned a lot of 500s, and I see some db connect errors in beta's syslog
<VITAS[m]>
i did some cpu intensive tasks on the server between 14:34 and 15:00
<VITAS[m]>
does that match?
<DasSkelett[m]>
Yup, netkan threw errors between 14:41 and 14:48 (CEST, for the others)
<VITAS[m]>
hmm so i can control it but i dont know if i can prevent it
<VITAS[m]>
its when i clone vms
<VITAS[m]>
maybe i can limit cpu cycles for it
<VITAS[m]>
i limited the worker count for such actions well see if that helps
<DasSkelett[m]>
Interesting. So Linux' scheduler gives the host as much CPU time as it needs, even if it screws containers.
<VITAS[m]>
might be because of the setup i have
<VITAS[m]>
cpu load was 70% but as we know that doesnt mean theres 30% free
<VITAS[m]>
im hoping by limiting worker count below core count there is enough room for other tasks
<VITAS[m]>
but it will slow down restarts of the server
<VITAS[m]>
im sure theres a way to get the best of all worlds i just dont know it :)
<VITAS[m]>
speaking of the best of all worlds: what about the voip call with HebaruSan you and me. when would be a good time for it?
<DasSkelett[m]>
Maybe later, but I have yet to actually take a look at the AdminLTE stuff.
<VITAS[m]>
ok
<VITAS[m]>
its more about bringing HebaruSan up to speed on what we talked about in terms of frontend
<DasSkelett[m]>
Would like to get an impression myself before going into any deeper discussions.
<VITAS[m]>
k
<VITAS[m]>
please do

Hey All... thanks for looking to implement my feature request, RE: KSP version on thumbs 😉
<KineticSloth8StoneBlue[m>
Figured I'd bring this up, while its still being implemented, rather than later...
<KineticSloth8StoneBlue[m>
Hey All... thanks for looking to implement my feature request, RE: KSP version on thumbs
<KineticSloth8StoneBlue[m>
Figured I'd bring this up, while its still being implemented, rather than later...
<VITAS[m]>
and its a bit long
<KineticSloth8StoneBlue[m>
note our friend Azaard's thumb, 2nd down, on the left 😛
<VITAS[m]>
also the dl button needs some beautification
<VITAS[m]>
at least its wraping correctly :D
<KineticSloth8StoneBlue[m>
mebbe consider putting KSP version in brackets, or something?
<KineticSloth8StoneBlue[m>
with no other indication that its KSP version?
<VITAS[m]>
yes or next to a gamepad icon in a new line
<VITAS[m]>
well think of something
<VITAS[m]>
was a bit of a rush because chrome was going to block mod downloads
<KineticSloth8StoneBlue[m>
mebbe put the KSP version in the left corner (for consistency/stndardization), and less confusing when users quick glance?
<KineticSloth8StoneBlue[m>
then have the mod version in right corner? vOv
<KineticSloth8StoneBlue[m>
yup!.. no worries... I knew this is all still pretty fresh, and likely to change...
<KineticSloth8StoneBlue[m>
just figured I'd give my less than 0.02$ opinion in, before things get moar set in stone ... lol
<VITAS[m]>
as you can see ive the same
<VITAS[m]>
and opinions are always welcome
<VITAS[m]>
we do the site for everyone not for us
<VITAS[m]>
so it should (within reason) be designed for everyone
HebaruSan[m] has joined #spacedock
<HebaruSan[m]>
The same thumbnail is used on the user profile, where the game is not known
<HebaruSan[m]>
What would have been really nice for that was an "abbreviation" field for games so it could say "KSP 1.10.0" instead, but that wasn't available
<HebaruSan[m]>
It's either "Kerbal Space Program" or "kerbal-space-program"
<HebaruSan[m]>
Maybe we could try generating abbreviations on the fly? But that would probably result in Balsa mods (if any are ever uploaded) being labeled "for B beta-0.22.8"
<HebaruSan[m]>
Or we only trigger the abbreviation generator if it's more than 7 characters, something like that
<VITAS[m]>
I think its better to put the Game version somewhere else and leave the mod version where the game version was before
<VITAS[m]>
its quite a bit of numbers and text overlaying the thumbnail atm even without the games name
<VITAS[m]>
lets focus on the new templates first
<VITAS[m]>
it might solve itself along the way
<HebaruSan[m]>
I would love to have a capable UI designer on the team for visual stuff, definitely not my strongest area
<VITAS[m]>
you do know i studied media sience, went to arts school, and worked as webdesigner and ui designer for companies like EA?
<HebaruSan[m]>
No, I did not know that
<HebaruSan[m]>
Do some mockups in photoshop of what you want things to look like and put them in GitHub issues
<HebaruSan[m]>
Reference images from UI designers are extremely useful
<VITAS[m]>
i would like to go with what adminlete uses per default and then look at youtube for inspiration
<VITAS[m]>
they do have the money and userbase to refine their stuff quite a bit
<VITAS[m]>
yes i could do screens
<HebaruSan[m]>
Even if you're just looking at the live site and you notice something that's visually bad, making an issue with a mockup would help hugely
<VITAS[m]>
i think current site is only an inspiration for colors and fonts
<VITAS[m]>
adminlte has wuite a rigid layout
<VITAS[m]>
i also would like to try to do mimalism people are impatient and thats why UIs get simplyer all the time
<VITAS[m]>
* adminlte has quite a rigid layout
<VITAS[m]>
so more icons less text
<VITAS[m]>
(you can always explain stuff with tooltips)
<VITAS[m]>
but first we have to find the time to have a voip meeting
<VITAS[m]>
text proven to land itself to missunderstandings that cost energy we shouldnt waste :)
<HebaruSan[m]>
Are you referring to you missing DasSkelett's warnings about the migration taking a long time?
<VITAS[m]>
that and ours yesterday
<HebaruSan[m]>
<span class="d-mention d-user">KineticSloth8StoneBlue</span> I will add a game name abbreviator to PR 330, it looks not too hard to do something reasonable
