<egg|zzz|egg>
awang: been looking at your journal, we can reproduce the issue, we understand the cause of the crash (stupid recursive implementation stackoverflowing), we don't understand why it's recursing so much though
<egg|zzz|egg>
awang: can you tell us what was happening to a four-part untitled spacecraft that had a SXTBlackAdder on it?
<GH>
[Principia] pleroy commented on issue #1628: @aw1621107: I have been able to reproduce the crash. Thanks for the journal, it made my life much easier.... https://git.io/vFxSo
<awang>
egg|zzz|egg: That part should just be falling
<awang>
IIRC it was the upper stage of a sounding rocket for a difficult sounding rocket contract
<awang>
It reached the required altitude, and at that point I left the flight scene and went to the space center
<awang>
And there it remained when the crash happened
<egg|zzz|egg>
we're seeing that at some point it start building up ridiculous speed
<egg|zzz|egg>
and then its speed becomes inconsistent with its positions!
<egg|zzz|egg>
(its speed also is 1081 km/s)
<awang>
Uhhh
<awang>
I switched to the vessel in the past, and followed it into the atmosphere
<awang>
Where it got incinerated
<awang>
Nothing looked weird from that perspective
<awang>
And IIRC it takes less than an hour for it to break up
<awang>
So idk what the vessel would have been doing at the time of the crash
<awang>
I'm not sure where the speed would come from, either
<awang>
Hmmm
<awang>
I'll try going to the tracking station and see if the crash happens there
<awang>
It'll take a while for KSP to start though
<egg|zzz|egg>
so tracking station should work just as space centre for us
<awang>
Is that a problem?
<awang>
I was more thinking that I can at least watch what's happening to the vessel
<egg|zzz|egg>
awang: it's not a problem, that's what I'm saying :-)
<awang>
Oh
<awang>
I wasn't sure how to interpret your statement

awang: i pushed a fix to master yesterday that makes burnout orbits more precise
<awang>
lamont: leg/PEGAS2, right?
<lamont>
yeah
<lamont>
lol yes, not master, HEAD
<xShadowx>
egg|zzz|egg: is there a way to.......make the predicted path less precise? like i just started leaving earth orbit, path goes to the moon and back for free return, if all goes well i wont need to course correct, and how every flight i do usually is, but tracking that early on wasnt so...perfect....i want like +/- some error, so while prediction looks perfect, a fair chance i might smack into moon
<xShadowx>
then as i get closer, prediction has less error and a little course correction and done :) no smack into moon
<xShadowx>
maybe with upgrading tracking station get more precise :)
<awang>
xShadowx: Tweak the tolerance?
<awang>
lamont: Any surprises I should know about?
<lamont>
not that i know of
<lamont>
although i think i’ve pinned it so that it releases the position constraint 40 seconds before the end of the burn and stops updating guidance 10 seconds before, and i’m just going to hardcode that in the future
<lamont>
the staging display inside of the PEG window will stop updating info with 10 seconds to go, that’s a cosmetic bug
<lamont>
if you have a stage separation in the last 10 seconds that might be really weird
<awang>
What effect would the changes at 10/40 seconds have?
<awang>
Oh, that's an unfortunate cosmetic bug...
<awang>
The display stats seem to always underestimate the amount of dv required, but I suppose there isn't much to be done about that?
<awang>
Stage separation in the last 10 seconds sounds like a bad idea
<awang>
egg|zzz|egg: Upon hitting warp to complete, the craft decides to go bonkers and leave the Earth-Moon system
<awang>
Traveling at nearly 2 km/s
<awang>
Still get the crash around 4 hours remaining
<awang>
I'm going to try a lower timewarp setting next
