<awang> egg: Does Principia get rid of the lines that indicate where the ascending/descending nodes are on a target orbit?
<awang> If so, what should I use as a replacement?
<egg|cell|egg> Yes, appropriate reference frames
<egg|cell|egg> Read the doc or ping me after work
<awang> I'll probably have to ping you then

<awang> egg: I'm trying to get a probe into a lunar orbit, and impact the TLI stage
<awang> At this point, the minimum inclination I can get with respect to the Moon's orbit is ~4.5 degrees, I think
<egg> awang: in the two-body frames, you have nodes
<egg> use those
<awang> I can burn for the Moon about a half hour after launch, but it requires almost a kilometer per second binormal component, which seems a bit high
<awang> The AN/DN markers?
<egg> yes
<awang> Hmmm
<awang> How would I ensure the Moon would be in the right place after a burn at an ascending/descending node?
<awang> Wait for the node to approximately be on the Earth-Moon line?
<egg> wat
<egg> what do you mean
<egg> what do you mean the moon in the right place
<awang> Uh
<awang> So I can burn towards the Moon's orbit at an ascending/descending node, but I'm thinking that the Moon may be in the wrong place in its orbit
<egg> awang: yes, but there's the flight planning tool for that? also I don't see why you think the stock line would help you (aside from the fact that it makes no sense in the rotating frames)
<awang> True, I just find the flight planning tool sort of annoying to use for anything that requires waiting for more than a few hours since that requires bumping up max steps per segment, and my computer is suffering a lot as is
<awang> Well, what I was thinking for the stock line was that I could just timewarp until the Moon was a few days off of the line. Then I could be reasonably sure that when I burn at AN/DN the Moon would be in about the right place
<egg> awang: well you can look at what angle the moon makes wrt the earth at your chosen node
<egg> and that's going to be the same information, since that angle is an invariant of the frame
<awang> I see
<awang> That makes sense
<awang> Wow
<awang> Now I'm getting a Moon impact with a simple ~3130 m/s burn
<awang> That was... simple

<awang> Thanks for the help!
<egg> \o/
<egg> awang: the invariants of the reference frame are your friends, learn them :-)
<egg> awang: people in the fora seem really happy with the target LVLH frame for rendez-vous, that's nice
<awang> egg: Nothing quite beats experience for learning those kinds of things :P
<awang> Can't wait for the rendezvous contracts so I can experience the magic for myself
