<GregroxMun>
I've started back to work on SLIPPIST-1 for a while now that I've remembered it.
<GregroxMun>
It isn't easy to make "eyeball planets" (tidally locked worlds which have water ice caps on one side and a desert on the other, or worlds with ice on almost the whole planet and water on the other) in KSP. Even the ones I have I'm not quite happy with.
<Sigma88>
what's the issue?
<GregroxMun>
The main problem is that it's hard to make the circular shapes fit onto the height maps and color maps. And I have no clue how to use landControl to put an ice cap on a place based upon latitude and longitude, instead of latitude only. So you have to iterate things and it's impractical to use wholly procedural coloration.

GregroxMun: Ooh, what level of astronomy class?
* UmbralRaptor
may have a class right now that focus on stellar interiors and atmospheres.
<GregroxMun>
this semester 152. Next semester 251.
<GregroxMun>
It's a community college so it doesn't go more advanced than that.
<GregroxMun>
our astronomy instructors are Mr., not Dr.
<UmbralRaptor>
Not sure how those numbers translate. eg: Are you getting into PP chain vs CNO cycle?
<GregroxMun>
no.
<UmbralRaptor>
4ish equations for structure and energy transport in the star?
<GregroxMun>
It's "General Astronomy II"
<UmbralRaptor>
Ah.
<GregroxMun>
I didn't really learn much in the first class.
<UmbralRaptor>
=(
<GregroxMun>
But I learned a lot in the second class. :D
<GregroxMun>
It's just ended on Friday.
<GregroxMun>
Final Exam on Monday.
<UmbralRaptor>
Good luck.
<GregroxMun>
My college has a huge 24 inch telescope that is open to public viewing on Fridays.
<UmbralRaptor>
=D
<GregroxMun>
I've joined the Astro club so I help out (with smaller ~8in telescopes on the patio outside)
<GregroxMun>
After taking Observational Astronomy I'll be certified to use the 24-inch one though.
<GregroxMun>
And I'll probably host some Fridays.
<Sigma88>
all this talking of telescopes and inches, I should probably come up with some stupid joke
<Sigma88>
but I'm too tired
<Sigma88>
should probably go to bed :)
<UmbralRaptor>
Remember: Astronomers care about girth, not length!
<GregroxMun>
I was going on the NSFW Omegle chat (a service that lets you talk to strangers. There's also a non-NSFW version.) My sole purpose for being on the NSFW chat was to make the following joke:
<GregroxMun>
Hey, do you want to see my big 7 inch
<GregroxMun>
telescope
<GregroxMun>
Someone actually correctly pointed out that 7 inch isn't even that big for a telescope aperture.
<UmbralRaptor>
7" is kinda an odd diameter. MCT?
<GregroxMun>
I don't have a 7" telescope.
<UmbralRaptor>
ah
<Sigma88>
oh wait are we talking girth now
<Sigma88>
?
<GregroxMun>
who knows
<Sigma88>
(took me long enough)
<GregroxMun>
My actual telescope is a 114EQ AstroMaster telescope from Celestron. ~4.5 inch aperture.
<GregroxMun>
I don't think the Dobsonians at the observatory are from Celestron, I can't find them on the website. But they're around 8 inch aperture or so?
<Sigma88>
probably should have used a different smiley
<Sigma88>
xD
<Sigma88>
Thomas: see kopernicus thread :D
<Thomas>
^^
* Thomas
pressed ESC 10 times and wondered why no ^'s appeared >.<
<Sigma88>
?
<Thomas>
Well, the escape key is above the ^ key
<Thomas>
And I pressed escape instead of ^
<Thomas>
and wondered why nothing happened
<Sigma88>
ah ok
<Sigma88>
it's not there on my keyboard
<Sigma88>
I have backslash / straightpipe there

Sigma88: RE SSRSS. It will not be possible to install SD for SSRSS without making it public. What we can do is if you give permission to include SD into SSRSS, and Galileo wants to do that, we can keep it exclusively available for SSRSS.
<Sigma88>
no sorry
<Sigma88>
what's the problem now?
<Sigma88>
can't you just make a fake mod called "SSRSS - SD Module"
<Sigma88>
or something like that
<Sigma88>
and make it so it is a requirement for SSRSS
<Sigma88>
but also it requires SSRSS ?
<Olympic1>
Politas thought that SD was already included into SSRSS and that we could install it that way.
<Sigma88>
it's not included
<Olympic1>
no, that will make it also public
<Sigma88>
what do you mean public?
<Olympic1>
that everyone that installs SSRSS, also installs SD (what is good), but if they delete SSRSS, SD stays installed
<Sigma88>
excuse my ignorance
<Sigma88>
but, can't you make CKAN take files from multiple zips for 1 mod?
<Sigma88>
like RSS + RSS-Textures
<Sigma88>
how do you handle that?
<Olympic1>
RSS depends on RSS-Textures but if you remove RSS, the textures stay
<Sigma88>
ok
<Sigma88>
that's fine
<Sigma88>
just call it SSRSS-Dimensions
<Sigma88>
or something like that
<Sigma88>
SSRSSSD
<Sigma88>
and make it so it has SSRSS as a dependency
<Sigma88>
everybody who leavese that installed would eventually go to complain to SSRSS guys
<Sigma88>
or more likely, they will unninstall both
<Olympic1>
ok
<Sigma88>
just avoid all references to SigmaDimensions and my threads
<Sigma88>
if that is possible
<Olympic1>
That should be possible by overriding them
<Sigma88>
overriding what?
<Olympic1>
the references to the threads
<Sigma88>
no, I meant, avoid putting the full name and links in the CKAN user interface
<Sigma88>
the folders in gamedata will obviously be called "Sigma" but that's fine
<Olympic1>
ok, on it
<Sigma88>
I didn't think it would have been so complicated when I responded to the github issue :D
