Tangentially related, what is the appropriate reaction to discovering that a bunch of streetlamps in one's city are gas-powered?

assumes a vague sense of terror?
<bofh>
Ehh, gas mantles aren't that energy-inefficient and the amount of gas used is miniscule so the amount piped is minor, they'e not an explosion hazard really (the flow is restricted upstream).
<Raptop>
Yay, then.
<Raptop>
So it's just a mounting issue (they're close to eye level, and structured so lots of light escapes upwards)
<Raptop>
Also, they're so dim compared with sodium/mercury vapor lamps that I legit thought they were 40-60 W incandescent bulbs before getting a good look >_>
<bofh>
I'm honestly surprised gas mantle lighting still exists, tbh.
<bofh>
Especially given the pace at which they're replacing *EVERYTHING* with LEDs nowadays.
<bofh>
(to the point where Phillips is ceasing manufacture of LPS bulbs this July... I bought a few 17W ones at the Home Despot recently just in case).
