Incidentally, I think the cashier had to make a SAN check at how much food I got into a single basket
<raptop>
(This resulted in walking a cart to my apt, unloading it, and walking it back)
<WeylandsWings>
raptop: how many people at the store were wearing masks and how many were wearing them correctly
<raptop>
For some reason ~5% were not (I think one person who forgot to put one on on entering, and at one point a security force person)
<raptop>
I didn't see anything glaringly wrong
<raptop>
er, otherwise
<WeylandsWings>
raptop: do you use any other apps for language learning other than Duo? like for Vocab?
<raptop>
Uh, I've been messing a around bit with human japanese, and have at various times been suggested wanikani and kanji tree
<WeylandsWings>
hrm dont think either of those will have german
<raptop>
Unsurprisingly!
<raptop>
I guess there's rosetta stone for general languages

WeylandsWings: German? You want to roll a SAN check? :D
<raptop>
e_14159_: consider: it means that one could read a certain 1905 paper in the origional language

Also generally nice for collaborating with $MPI

$MPI = Max Planck?

yes

I'd assume they speak better English on average than German
<UmbralRaptop>
oh?
<e_14159_>
I mean, they're researchers, so they're probably a mix of non-native speakers and people mostly interacting in English professionally
<UmbralRaptop>
makes sense

WeylandsWings: My impression is that German is a horrible language to learn
<WeylandsWings>
e_14159_: why? I mean it probably isnt a useful as say Chinese (mandarin) or Spanish or Hindi or Portuguese based on number of speakers in the world
<WeylandsWings>
but i am not learning it for utility, i am learning it because I want to learn it and have always been interested in it
SilverFoxy has quit [Ping timeout: 202 seconds]
<WeylandsWings>
Like if i wanted a language that would actually be useful to me at my work, i would need to learn Russian or Mandarin, but there is no incentive for me to learn those languages (monetarily or otherwise) and I personally have litte interest in them
<WeylandsWings>
Also the same things could probably be said about raptop and SnoopJeDi learning Japanese. Based on the number of speakers there are better languages for us to be learning
<raptop>
I mean, yes. This is explicitly about anime/manga and games <_<
<WeylandsWings>
Oh I am not judging, just making the comment that there are likely better languages for us to learn based on utility
<e_14159_>
WeylandsWings: I'm primarily talking about difficulty to learn it. Many people I've spoken to who learn it lament that difficulty
