egg changed the topic of #principia to: Logs: https://esper.irclog.whitequark.org/principia | <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly…
<queqiao->
⟨markush100⟩ just hit me that GSO insertion is as easy as just burning retrograde in the ECEF frame
<queqiao->
⟨ballatik⟩ If you’re in the right spot, yeah. I’m with you though, it took me way too long to realize I could check my maneuver far easier in ECEF than ECI. Don’t need to look at numbers, just make the tiniest circle possible.
<queqiao->
⟨markush100⟩ reference frames are like black magic if you're used to patch conics
<queqiao->
⟨fryz0123⟩ I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to use Principia just yet as I'm still learning stock KSP orbital mechanics, but I love the navball, so I guess I'm asking if I should A) just rip the band-aid off and go for it, or B) if not, how do I get this nice Navball into a non-principia install?
<queqiao->
⟨robbibi_⟩ B: you don't
<queqiao->
⟨fryz0123⟩ boo, for some reason I just like the look of it better, not sure why
<queqiao->
⟨robbibi_⟩ don't bother with principia if all you're interested in is the navball
<paculino>
There are many navballs, but iirc there was a mod that allowed changing navball texture
<queqiao->
⟨fryz0123⟩ I'll have to look for it then
<paculino>
Alternatively, you could make a backup copy of gamedata and replace squad's navball file with whichever principia one you prefer
<queqiao->
⟨fryz0123⟩ I might try that, and once I get KSP orbital mechanics down, I'll try this for a challenge
<paculino>
Or you could "use" principia and always have the cheat menu hack gravity set to 1.0
<paculino>
I'm not sure which UI is used when hack gravity is on, but you may prefer to do that so you only need to ever learn the one ui
<queqiao->
⟨fryz0123⟩ I'll take a look and see what I can get to work
<queqiao->
⟨markush100⟩ get principia, you wont regret it
<queqiao->
⟨markush100⟩ better to learn real orbital mechanics than kerbal mechanics only to later unlearn them
<queqiao->
⟨fryz0123⟩ good point
<queqiao->
⟨fryz0123⟩ considering I've spent a good part of the year unteaching my students stuff so I could teach them stuff
<queqiao->
⟨markush100⟩ its not more difficult than vanilla, in fact a lot of things are easier to me
<queqiao->
⟨fryz0123⟩ I'm gonna go for it
<queqiao->
⟨markush100⟩ i shouldve gotten it back when it came out, i always told myself "next campaign"
