At some point I should try to give a migrated gas giant a system which acts like a captured moon system instead of an inexplicable Jovian/Saturnian system where the moons form in orbit.

How, for example, did Laythe and Mun and Kerbin form in the Alternis Jool system? Shouldn't Jool have formed outside the frost line, where there would be much more low-density volatiles?

My explanation is that Laythe and Mun and Kerbin are the result of Jool migrating downward, capturing two terrestrial planets of differing compositions and then having them collide and break apart into a ring system that would behave like an accretion disk.

The ring system would then coalesce into moons as they would if they were ice moons made from an accretion disk.

This sort of system may turn out to be required for a gas giant with multiple habitable moons, because the odds of capturing two or more terrestrial (Mars or larger) planets in stable orbits around a reasonably massed gas giant is pretty low.
