so im bad at math but help me out here; I'm watching the numberphile video on reynold's number, and I remember tiny bits from my KWS days, but the equation has stuff / density, and the equation they have takes stuff * 1/Re * more_stuff, couldn't you just invert the reynolds equation to remove the 1/Re in the next one?
* UmbralRaptor
would need additional context

UmbralRaptor: holy hell i didnt realize the HabEx starshade was so far away
<B787_300>
" The HabEx 52 m diameter starshade will fly in formation with the telescope at a nominal separation of 76,600 km"
* egg
stabs that comma
<B787_300>
egg: US doc... where we use commas for separating thousands
<egg>
B787_300: yes I'm aware
<egg>
B787_300: it's somewhat confusing in international contexts for obvious reasons, hence both , and . as grouping marks being discouraged by the BIPM and a bunch of other things
<B787_300>
egg: i dont understand why Europe uses . as a grouping mark
<B787_300>
(other than the correct way of using as the decimal point)
<egg>
it doesn't do that so much anymore
<egg>
a bunch of things have switched to spaces (again, to avoid that ambiguity)
<B787_300>
egg: to me that is almost worse
<B787_300>
but whatever i know i only like , because i have been raised with it
<egg>
yes, and others here have been raised with , as the decimal mark
<egg>
so that 76,600 km is obviously 76600 m to me without a second thought, much like to you 12.345 would obviously be 12 + 345/1000 rather than 12345
<egg>
which is why using either as a grouping mark is to be avoided in an international context: it is not simply that people will fail to understand, but that they will misunderstand without even noticing that something is going on
<egg>
the swiss use ' which is pretty good at being unambiguous
<B787_300>
oh i totally agree and understand
<egg>
although it can be a bit unusual, spacing is more commonly seen
<B787_300>
but this is a US doc for mostly US audiences sooooooooo. and i just didnt think when i threw it in here
<egg>
yeah, I was largely stabbing in jest
<B787_300>
UmbralRaptor: yeah... HabEx ahs a price tag of 9.1 BN
