raptop changed the topic of #principia to: READ THE FAQ: http://goo.gl/gMZF9H; The current version is Gateaux. We currently target 1.8.1, 1.9.1, and 1.10.1. <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly… | <egg> also 4e16 m * 2^-52 is uncomfortably large

Damien. — the plane you're in when you leave earth is less about *how* you leave earth and more about *when*. even in a polar orbit of earth you're still in in a pretty much identical orbit to earth relative to Mars. The only time you can launch into plane with Mars is if you eject at the an/dn of earth/mars' orbits. Any other time you need some kind of correction burn to fix inclination

RurouniDonut. — Question, I know Principia uses multiple cores. Is that only in flight or for all vessals in a save?
<discord->
Standecco. — it's only for all vessels, in flight it wouldn't know what to do with those cores. Principia makes no distinction of in-flight or in-background
<discord->
Standecco. — (disregard the angular momentum thing, which I don't know how it works)
<discord->
Standecco. — (except for the angular momentum feature, which I don't know how it works) (edited)
<discord->
RurouniDonut. — ahhh gotcha
<discord->
RurouniDonut. — *looks like im getting the 5900x*
<discord->
RurouniDonut. — jk lma
<discord->
RurouniDonut. — jk lmao (edited)
<discord->
RurouniDonut. — i imagine 16 threads would be fine for principia
<discord->
Standecco. — the number of threads only affects the max number of active vessels
<discord->
Standecco. — which in turn only affects the max rate at which you can timewarp with no lag
<discord->
RurouniDonut. — Hmm, home come with 8 threads it lags with 1 vessal in orbit with timewarp?
<discord->
Standecco. — to answer your question more directly, 16 threads will be absolutely fine
<discord->
RurouniDonut. — Hmm, how come with 8 threads it lags with 1 vessal in orbit with timewarp? (edited)
<discord->
Standecco. — because 1 vessel can only be computed by 1 thread
<discord->
RurouniDonut. — ah. but if its not up the task it will then lag?
<discord->
Standecco. — but up to 8 vessels won't be any additional cost compared to 1 vessel, in an 8 thread CPU
<discord->
RurouniDonut. — ah. but if its not up to the task it will then lag? (edited)
<discord->
Standecco. — if the thread itself is slow, then yeah, it will lag even with 1 vessel
<discord->
RurouniDonut. — ohhhhh, thats assuming no background tasks are also hogging the cpu
<discord->
RurouniDonut. — welp, i'm going from the i7-6700 to the ryzen 5800x probably so hopefully it'll be a massive jump
<discord->
Standecco. — exactly, but that doesn't depend on principia
<discord->
Standecco. — a leaked benchmark put the 5600x higher than even a 10900k, so it should be
<discord->
Standecco. — (but of course, the benchmark could've been faked or using a golden chip under LN2, so we'll have to wait)
<discord->
Standecco. — (but of course, the benchmark could've been faked or could be using a golden chip under LN2, so we'll have to wait) (edited)
<discord->
RurouniDonut. — true true, im just hoping i can get one on launch day
<discord->
Standecco. — as long as you wait for the reviews
<discord->
RurouniDonut. — yepp, hopefully nda gets lifted before the day on not day of
