<dlrkdesktop>
Lamont: Thanks. When I try to use it, it just doesn't fire the engines at all until waaay too late
<lamont>
suicide burn calculations might be off due to thinking you’ve got more TWR than you’ve got
<lamont>
oh you’re trying to do falcon 9
<dlrkdesktop>
Suicide burn works fine in land somewhere mode
<dlrkdesktop>
I can get it on the runway 27 numbers by handling the maneuvering landing until hitting land somewhere in final descent
blowfish has joined #kspmodding
<lamont>
so generally the landing guidance was designed around landing a lander on an airless world, and works for doing suborbital hops for science grinding, but it wasn’t written for boostback landings
<lamont>
somehow the state machine is getting confused and it is in CourseCorrection and is just counting dV upwards and never executing the course correction burn
<dlrkdesktop>
I'm not trying to boostback though, just handle the last bit of approach and finetune the landing sight at that point
<dlrkdesktop>
Huh
<dlrkdesktop>
It's counting the dV upwards instead of down?
<dlrkdesktop>
Anything I could do to get it not confused?
<lamont>
it says “performing a course correction of about XXX m/s” where XXX just keeps getting bigger and it doesn’t do anything
<dlrkdesktop>
huh
<dlrkdesktop>
anything I should to do to get it to work right, or get something more replicable?
<lamont>
then what happens is that you fall below 500m in altitude and that forces the state machine into FinalDescent and it finally triggers the engines way too damn late
<lamont>
what you’ve got is enough to file a bug in the issue tracker
<dlrkdesktop>
I'm not sure if it would be helpful.
<lamont>
yeah, i could actually use this video at some point
<dlrkdesktop>
Alright, I'll file it.
<dlrkdesktop>
It's on Github?
<lamont>
problem is that i’ve got my hands full enough with ascents and node executor patches and the interplanetary trajectory stuff
<dlrkdesktop>
So, should I just call the issue "Course correction descent and landing fails"
<dlrkdesktop>
It obviously works for some people some times, so I'm not sure how to distinguish it from when it does work
<lamont>
uhm
<lamont>
“Landing Autopilot state machine transition bugs on suborbital hops (Falcon 9)” or something like that
<dlrkdesktop>
I'll just use that verbatim
<dlrkdesktop>
It only occurs with land at target
<dlrkdesktop>
land somewhere is fine
<lamont>
yeah “land somewhere” doesn’t have to adjust the target location, so the bug is probably in that code
<dlrkdesktop>
huh
<dlrkdesktop>
makes sense
<dlrkdesktop>
Well, posted it on the issue tracker
<lamont>
so one side of an if is buggy and the other isn't
<dlrkdesktop>
hmm
<dlrkdesktop>
Man, until 1.4 , I had no idea how quick people were to start bugging about updates lol
<lamont>
yeah i saw 1.4 dropped so i’m just ignoring the forums
<dlrkdesktop>
fair enough
<lamont>
pretty sure sarbian already fixed mechjeb at least in dev though
<dlrkdesktop>
I just don't bother even looking at the new KSP updates for a few months after they drop
<lamont>
yep
<dlrkdesktop>
It's not like the old days when there was a horrible bug in every version
<lamont>
i don’t play out of steam and haven’t even downloaded it yet
<lamont>
yeah but the thing is i need my KerbalAlarmClock and xScience and all the things that make the game playable
<dlrkdesktop>
I never buy off Steam if I can get it elsewhere
<dlrkdesktop>
Yeah, me too
<dlrkdesktop>
I just stick to the old version till the mods get updated
<lamont>
i still don’t know what the killer feature of 1.4 is
<dlrkdesktop>
me neither
<dlrkdesktop>
Making History, I think
<dlrkdesktop>
Once we had 64-bit, things were pretty good
<lamont>
still don’t know what the killer feature of that is either
<lamont>
yep
<dlrkdesktop>
64 bit?
<dlrkdesktop>
oh, making history
<dlrkdesktop>
It's a cash grab
<lamont>
i think the shaders may actually have gotten updated and unity may have gotten a bump?
<dlrkdesktop>
Yeah, Unity and Particles, and persistent pod names
<dlrkdesktop>
are the only non-cash grabby things
<BenjaminK>
what's upmwith partickes?
<dlrkdesktop>
and localization
<dlrkdesktop>
they updated it in 1.4
<BenjaminK>
god I can't spell
<BenjaminK>
and what does it do?
<BenjaminK>
like the particles formed when the engine's on?
<dlrkdesktop>
yeah, I think
<BenjaminK>
hmm
<lamont>
DLC has new parts which sound interesting but they’re not really well advertised. the making history mission stuff sounds like ContractConfigurator and they don’t spell out why i’d care (clearly i-only-play-stock players would care)
<lamont>
i actually suspect i’ll probably buy it, but the advertisement is a bit terrible (or somehow not aimed at me at all)
<BenjaminK>
People have posted a lot of bugs on the forums
<BenjaminK>
I (para)quote: 'Seems more like an internal beta than a finished product'

<JPLRepo>
I actually only see about a dozen threads on the forums in the support section...
<JPLRepo>
and most are the usual - user doesn't know how to install.
<JPLRepo>
So where are you seeing this: "People have posted a lot of bugs on the forums"
<JPLRepo>
BenjaminK?
<JPLRepo>
and a number are just: people learning how to use the mission builder.
<BenjaminK>
hi JPLRepo
<BenjaminK>
what's up?
<BenjaminK>
ha
<BenjaminK>
ah
<JPLRepo>
Was wondering what the source of your comment about people have posted lots of bugs on the forums.
<JPLRepo>
I don't see that many. and most are - people having problems with install... or learning how the builder works.
<JPLRepo>
There are around 40-50 on the official tracker for 1.4.0/1.4.1 So that includes everything from last weeks 1.4.0 release as well.
<JPLRepo>
and a lot of those are feedback or low priority problems.
<BenjaminK>
I remember seeing a post yesterday with several replies including sunlight on the wrong side of pol, along with a screenshot
<JPLRepo>
low impact I should say
<BenjaminK>
And that was specifically for the mission builder, I beleive
<JPLRepo>
Well I don't see that on the official tracker.
<JPLRepo>
You also have to consider - bugs with mods installed. are usually not the core games issue, rather the mod.. or the user using mods not updated yet.
<JPLRepo>
The sun on the wrong side??? You can rotate the sun in the builder...
<JPLRepo>
so again - it may be a misunderstanding of the functionality.

<BenjaminK>
perhaps, I'm still searching for the thread atm
<BenjaminK>
hmm, not finding it

<taniwha>
lamont: part variants are a nice feature
<Sarbian>
the messages are quite explicit about the problems and we have whole pages about this in the MM thread. FOR or AFTER or BEFORE. not all, not two. One
