regex: turning it around ( v.vesselType== xxx || v.vesselType== yy) would be shorter I guess
<Asymptote>
I'm writing my Phd dissertation about "co-development strategies in the game software industry", I've chosen KSP as a case study and I need to gather some data and insights from its modders'.
<Asymptote>
Would you agree to complete an online survey? It takes around 10 to 15mn, it's fully anonymous, and it will be a great help!
<Sarbian>
regex: and you don't do anything with the result
<regex>
Sarbian, not really worried about brevity, unless that's a better query overall
<regex>
I'm not up on the iuntricacies of how bad linq is
<regex>
^intricacies
<Asymptote>
sarbian: can you take it from here? :)
<Sarbian>
Yep
<Asymptote>
Lastly, know that I'm not affiliated with Squad or T2 in any way
<Sarbian>
So as Asymptote was saying he is writing his Phd dissertation and need KSP modders to fill out a survey. I have met him and he is an actual post grad and the survey does not take much time to fill out.
<Sarbian>
I never saw a thesis on game modding and I am quite interested in who this will turn out so please take some time to look into it.

<Asymptote>
Well the french academic literature is kind of mute about it, or not very thorough, and I pretty lost also tbh. Most of the available works about modders communities and user-dev relationships have been published in english journals.
<Asymptote>
*I think
<Asymptote>
Thanks for the sticky sarbian.
<Sarbian>
egg: do we have a bot that can repeat a message a specific hours ? (also read last 5 mins here)

Sarbian: hmm, maybe also poke around in #RO, possibly more active
<Sarbian>
good idea
<egg>
Sarbian: si, mais elles sont pas sur IRC

Sarbian: Asymptote: CAVEAT: #RO will bias the sample

but then again, so will sampling from IRC

<Asymptote>
Also if you guys have any questions about the survey or my research, I'll be idling here for a bit (contact info are also in the link).
<egg>
Asymptote: also, if PhD student, I recommend #kspacademia; largely not KSP-related, but has academics (also former academics, also catpics, also numerical analysis, algebraic structures, linguistics...)
<Asymptote>
What's #RO?
<egg>
Realism Overhaul
<egg>
and associated mods
<egg>
chock full of modders :-p
<Asymptote>
From KSP?
<egg>
yeah this is all KSP
<Sarbian>
yes, that s the full scale / realsim mod for KSP
<Asymptote>
And why would they bias the data? :p
<egg>
because all Realism Overhaul modders, or modders from related mods
<Asymptote>
Ok i'm joining in then.
<egg>
so very realism-heavy
<Asymptote>
Sounds neat.
<egg>
Asymptote: whereas #kspacademia wouldn't bias the data, but 5 min into the discussion the bibliography of your thesis is going to include citations to J. Math. Pures Appl., A&A, and Biol. Psychiatry, as well as a picture of a cat for no discernible reason :-p
<Sarbian>
#kspacademia is full of mean people who throw math at you
<egg>
:D
<egg>
Sarbian: I mean, whitequark throws lots of biology
<egg>
also eleggtronics
<Asymptote>
Haha, why not.
<egg>
Asymptote: aggravating edge cases: my plugin is mostly C++
<egg>
(also it's 70 kilolines lately)
<Asymptote>
Ok, tour is finished.
<Asymptote>
egg: tick the "other case" and add your situation
<Asymptote>
I think you can tick several choices on that one
<egg>
technically there's #kspmodders, but, maybe don't go there
<Asymptote>
But why though? ;^)
<egg>
stronk typing
<egg>
(why is it 70 kilolines? because I'm slightly nuts and everything gets out of hand)
<Sarbian>
Damn, you started him. he will never stop now :(
<Sarbian>

What am I supposed to read there? I barely read python. (prepares to dodge rotten tomatoes and other wastes)

>Principia is a mod for Kerbal Space Program (KSP) which implements N-body and extended body gravitation. Instead of being within the sphere of influence of a single celestial body at any point in time, your vessels are influenced by all the celestials.
<Asymptote>
Neat. I didn't know this mod, might install it someday
<Sarbian>
I ll be in the next room, ping me a couple of time if I am needed
<egg>
Asymptote: well mostly the thing I selected is comments
<egg>
the comments are citation upon citation :D
<egg>
(and then it's just a function declaration, this says that NewtonDelambreStørmerVerletLeapfrog is a function that returns a SymplecticPartitionedRungeKuttaIntegrator)
<egg>
Asymptote: as for whitequark's tweet, latin comment and Unicode identifiers
<kmath_>
<whitequark> "… I have no idea whether the guy is called Chebyshev, Tchebyshoff, Tschebyscheff or whatever" -- @eggleroy https://t.co/BzvVv8otZP
<Asymptote>
Code exegesis? Good lord...
<Asymptote>
egg: are these people discussing Principia's source code?
<Asymptote>
egg: btw do you speak latin? I'd like to know if this commentary is one of these classy dev private jokes.
<egg>
Asymptote: the comment is just a citation from Newton's Principia
<egg>
Asymptote: it's Newton's 3rd law
<egg>
Asymptote: and the code implementing it
<Asymptote>
Makes sense.
<egg>
Asymptote: as far as fancy comments go, I think you can't beat apollo guidance
