egg changed the topic of #principia to: READ THE FAQ: http://goo.gl/gMZF9H; The current version is Germain. We currently target 1.8.1, 1.9.1, 1.10.1, and 1.11.0. <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly… | <egg> also 4e16 m * 2^-52 is uncomfortably large

scimas. — I believe the forum page of KSPTOT has a tutorial listed, or maybe it ships with a pdf of a couple of tutorials. I remember going through it once when I was trying to use it.

Butcher. — I could never get useful data out of KSPTOT.
<discord-_>
Butcher. — It's very sensitive to initial orbit, but that's not something I want to spend ages tweaking.

Sumguy. — Why should initial orbit be that important?
<discord-_>
JR. — It's probably using a lambert solver to compute the trajectory. Which iirc is sensitive to initial conditions. So it matters to same extent you want exact answers. (Someone correct me if I'm full of it)
<discord-_>
Sumguy. — how different will a solution be if your initial orbit is off?
<discord-_>
JR. — Depends on how much off and how accurate you want the solution to be. If it's off by a little it won't really matter in practical terms. But that's just my opinion

Butcher. — You end up with it taking ejections which are really expensive because it is trying to eject from whatever orbit you gave it.
<discord-_>
Butcher. — Rather than picking the best ejection and fitting an orbit to it.
<discord-_>
Sumguy. — huh
<discord-_>
Butcher. — Also I found there are few flybys I care about, sun low space and voyager are probably the only ones.

Sumguy. — Can it do multi-assist planning?
