<RockyTV> when are we going to merge alpha into beta?
VITAS[m] has joined #spacedock
<VITAS[m]> ive to fix sd2 (beta) first
<VITAS[m]> and still: when AllisTauri and HebaruSan have time again
AllisTauri[m] has joined #spacedock
<AllisTauri[m]> Do we need anything else do add to this MR? Or do you simply anticipate the need to fix things quickly right after the merge? :)
<VITAS[m]> i if you have tested the alpha code base enough to find it fit for beta we can proceed
<VITAS[m]> im currently cloning alphas container to be the new beta
<VITAS[m]> (you guys need to adjust its settings after that)
<VITAS[m]> sd2 should be going again but now sd6 wont start....i should become a woodworker or bricklayer and stop that computer crap
<AllisTauri[m]> I'll be away for two weeks starting from this Sunday
<VITAS[m]> k
<VITAS[m]> as i said: its a marathon.
<VITAS[m]> can you prepare everything before that so i can have some public beta testing or do you want me to wait after youre back?
aradapilot has joined #spacedock
<AllisTauri[m]> Not sure what to prepare, actually. If you just swapping alpha into beta, it's only the config that needs to be changed...
<VITAS[m]> im asking because i cant belive something with computers can be that easy :D
DasSkelett[m] has joined #spacedock
<DasSkelett[m]> Oh it's just computers! ;)
<VITAS[m]> im currently cant even get alpha to start again
<VITAS[m]> because of that crappy storage
<VITAS[m]> i want to drive to the DC and shit on their desk
<VITAS[m]> kernel: [149493.194114] EXT4-fs (loop41): I/O error while writing superblock
<AllisTauri[m]> )))
<AllisTauri[m]> Oh .. not good
<VITAS[m]> no its because they made quantum storage
<VITAS[m]> if you look it changed state
<AllisTauri[m]> :lol
<VITAS[m]> i removed the mounted storage box and it starts right up
<VITAS[m]> we just have to live with 8GB of disk for Alpha right now
<AllisTauri[m]> Seems almost enough for functional testing
<VITAS[m]> will be if we dont upload udels of test mods
<VITAS[m]> beta has 64GB of mod storage (if i can keep that one running with external storage)
<VITAS[m]> i would say its more important for beta because "endusers" will test it and thus upload mods
<AllisTauri[m]> We don't need many test mods on alpha, IMO
<VITAS[m]> yes
<VITAS[m]> now ive to find a storage provider that is trustworthy, fast, in the EU (bettwer even in germany) and can offer at least 2TB for max 10€/month
<DasSkelett[m]> Yeah if we want to test mod uploads we can always delete older ones
<VITAS[m]> ah and he needs some usuaable protocolls like smb or nfs over vpn/ssh
<VITAS[m]> im just upset with the storage blowing up my setup all the time
<AllisTauri[m]> How much a 4Tb costs now?
<AllisTauri[m]> Maybe it's cheaper too make everything local?
<VITAS[m]> im currently paying for 2TB 9,90€/month
<VITAS[m]> and its the same DC my servers are in
<VITAS[m]> the server SD is on has 2x500GB SSD so the idea is to have the extra storage for data like mods, nextcloud,....
<VITAS[m]> the problem i have is that they keep moving the storage between servers and change the ip
<VITAS[m]> smb doesnt like that and goes into panic RO mode and also looses data in transmission
<VITAS[m]> they say that its normal and i shouldnt be using the storage for frequent writing
<VITAS[m]> and only for backup
<VITAS[m]> i say: i cant even backup to it
<VITAS[m]> and ever heared of virtual ips and hot migration?
<VITAS[m]> problem is that in order to use it as storage for virtual drives i need smb, iscsi or nfs support and it needs to be fast.
<AllisTauri[m]> Only for backups?!
<AllisTauri[m]> Cool guys 😎
<VITAS[m]> i will setup my offsite storage once i renovated the room its in (i have a seperate server in my city using 4x 8TB drives on a 1gbit/s peering (yes peering im my own isp) with deutsche telekom)
<VITAS[m]> but because thats no DC i dont want to trust it with vital realtime stuff
<VITAS[m]> more like archiving
<VITAS[m]> then theres my server at home but its even less reliable beeing in my closet with no ups and home inet (but it too has 4x 8TB)
<VITAS[m]> so space inst an issue but reliable one is
<AllisTauri[m]> Complicated setup. I'm glad we're currently developing for kubernetes at work =]
<VITAS[m]> its complicated because its inexpensive and lets me try out things i cant do at work
<VITAS[m]> everyone can go to amazon, google an ms and rent a bunch of containers
<VITAS[m]> im building clouds not renting them :)
<AllisTauri[m]> good point
<VITAS[m]> so the cheapest server with magnetic drives at my server provider is 40€/month
<VITAS[m]> 2x 4tb
<VITAS[m]> a bit more than i want to invest right now
<RockyTV> we could merge beta and test it
<VITAS[m]> we could
<RockyTV> if anything breaks there's me HebaruSan and DasSkelett to fix the issue if AllisTauri[m] isn't available
<VITAS[m]> first someone has to turn sd2 into beta again
<VITAS[m]> i just cloned alpha
<VITAS[m]> (sd6)
