whitequa9000: I use the Windows ЙЦУКЕН layout on most of my machines, but the one on the craptop is phonetic b/c I was missing a keymap awhile ago and was too lazy to fix it.

egg|zzz|egg, bofh is there any reading you'd recommend on computing pseudoinverses? I'm unfamiliar with them but it's become necessary for me to "invert" an underspecified system.

SnoopJeDi: will do in a few hrs, bit busy atm. pseudoinverses are nasty tho, what are you doing with them?
<SnoopJeDi>
nothing particularly fancy really, I'm seeking a "good enough" solution to a dipole correction problem. My supervisor's approach is to compute the response of tweaking each individual dipole, construct a matrix, 'invert' and construct the desired corrections (and then iterate a few times)
<SnoopJeDi>
it's almost certainly not a great way to optimize but it's a very general one
<SnoopJeDi>
bofh, Roger Penrose's paper is actually quite readable, too! Although not exactly the kind of practical material I was looking for
