… oh. via SnoopJeDi >_>
<SnoopJeDi>
Haven't been paying enough attention to Ryugu >_>
<UmbralRaptor>
You (indirectly) RT'd it!
<SnoopJeDi>
True :)
<SnoopJeDi>
I confess I'm MUCH more excited about Ultima Thule, which feels inappreciative of JAXA
<UmbralRaptor>
Eh, there's a lot going on with small body exploration right now. (see also: OSIRIS-REx / Bennu)
<SnoopJeDi>
and space at large I suppose! I guess it's an embarassment of riches

So I just finished reading Stranger in a Strange Land the other evening. It was slightly strange, since everytime I read "I am only an egg," my mind began to wander to #kspacademia :P
<SnoopJeDi>
oh, figures that you'd have seen the list before :)
<e_14159>
Nah, not the list. Only a few of the papers on that list
<SnoopJeDi>
I think waifu2x is the only one I'd encountered, but I don't really pay attention to ML
<e_14159>
I don't really pay attention to anime, so... :-)
<SnoopJeDi>
someone pointed me at generated random speech from WaveNet today though
<SnoopJeDi>
I got the rpi for my rat ultrasonic foolishness, and it's dawned on me that a piezo or something for *generating* ultrasonics would be a good second step. I could rig it up with a really simple generative model to emit more convincing ultrasound than pure tones
<SnoopJeDi>
gotta get the right mic first though, which is about as hard a task as I remember from earlier research...
<e_14159>
Rat foolishness?
<SnoopJeDi>
visualizing the vocalizations of my pets
<SnoopJeDi>
it occurred to me that I could go the other way, too
<e_14159>
But without meaning
<SnoopJeDi>
finding an ultrasonic mic that won't set me back $1000 is slightly challenging, but it looks like there are some good candidates that happen to extend into the frequency range (20-50 kHz) I'm most interested
<SnoopJeDi>
yea, they would know it's not another rat for sure, and they don't really have grammar anyway
<SnoopJeDi>
but there's existing (and recent!) work in the literature and from the supplementary videos it seems like it's compelling to them
<SnoopJeDi>
would be a fun addition to playtime as a stretch goal
<SnoopJeDi>
more concerned with understanding them better though, they understand me just fine without any cybernetic enhancement :P
<e_14159>
It definitely sounds cool
<SnoopJeDi>
it's a cute excuse to get around to finally buying an rpi and playing with it, and hey, it's a project that could look good in a "pls pay me" pitch
