<G-Mobile>
Say I had a pie chart of the mas of the earth deliniated by phase, solid, liquid, gas, rounding plasma into gas, whats this going to look like?
<G-Mobile>
Obvious interpretation would be almost entirely solid with basically a line of other, but nearly all of the earth is actually liquid
<G-Mobile>
So does it turn into liquid with a line of other?
<G-Mobile>
Does the solid core, plus solid mantpe, end up being enough solid to have multiple degrees of arch?
<G-Mobile>
Mantle
<G-Mobile>
Hmm, seems like the upper inside bit is plastic instead of liquid
<G-Mobile>
"predominantly solid, but in geological time (unix time + 3 billion) it behaves as a very viscous fluid." - Wickerpedia
<G-Mobile>
If we call it solid then there will definitely be two distinct regions on the chart, but then does the atmosphere add up to much
<G-Mobile>
By mass as specified, surely not?
<Orum>
well, that's debatable, as we don't know for certain what things look like beyond the upper mantle
<Orum>
e.g. is the earth's core iron? Is the outer core liquid and the inner solid like we think? If so, where is the boundary between these?
<Orum>
though you'll need atmospheric data as well
<Orum>
huh, facinating, gravitational acceleration actually goes /up/ as you go down to about 3.5km below the surface
<Orum>
"a sample of iron–nickel alloy was subjected to the corelike pressures by gripping it in a vise between 2 diamond tips (diamond anvil cell), and then heating to approximately 4000 K. The sample was observed with x-rays, and strongly supported the theory that Earth's inner core was made of giant crystals running north to south."

<Greys>
moho?
<Greys>
wait, the earth's core is a magic crystal?
