<GlassFragments> so if the MIT license requires you to include the full license text if you redistribute significant portions of the licensed software
<GlassFragments> but whoever created it originally only *stated* that it was MIT licensed, without including the license text itself
<GlassFragments> are they breaking their own project's license
<r4m0n> partially, yes. the gentlemanly thing to do is to correct that mistake if you're using their stuff, and notify them if there's any chance of that
<GlassFragments> "This one is marked on sourceforge as being MIT licensed, but the actual license text is not included in the repository. The following license text was therefore reconstructed using the template found at https://opensource.org/licenses/MIT and the upload date and developer's name as found on sourceforge:"
<r4m0n> perfect
<GlassFragments> replaced the first "and" with "as well as" to prevent repetition
<ve2dmn> Kind of reminds me of hmailserver: The code went through several licences so you have to make sure you distribute the right licence with the right code
<GlassFragments> ...what is the copyright situation on stackoverflow answers? I assmue they're not eligible
<GlassFragments> ?
<ve2dmn> Ask that question on stack exchange?
<GlassFragments> I KNEW IT
<ve2dmn> It's worth having a discussion over if it need to be resolved
<GlassFragments> as far as I know I haven't copypasted anything particularily long so I should be fine
<ve2dmn> Ask a lawyer, we are just random people on the internet
<GlassFragments> I did however copy like 100 lines of LGPL math and rewrote it from c++ to c#
<GlassFragments> good thing you can't protect simple numbers...oh
<r4m0n> converting code between languages is probably a legal maze
<GlassFragments> r4m0n, well I had to basically rewrite everything that wasn't math
<r4m0n> yes, but you absorbed the IP in your mind, so now your brain needs to be under the LGPL
<GlassFragments> even changed all the variable names to make it actually readable this time
<r4m0n> was it some of those FORTRAN -> C++ abominations?
<GlassFragments> r4m0n, viral license indeed
<GlassFragments> no, just some 3d geometry in c++ that I adapted for unity and c#
<Orum> I ran into the same problem where I was porting a developer's code from 32->64 bit, but it had no license, and then he said to "consider it gpl/bsd/mit" (one of those, don't remmeber exactly what)
<Orum> in reality it doesn't matter as long as the original copyright holder isn't going to sue you
<Orum> ...and they don't transfer that copyright, either
<r4m0n> pretty much. most of the (L)GPL code is also from people who don't know how messy it can get
<Orum> on another note, what ever happened to Greys? she get banned from the channel or something?
<r4m0n> got fed up and left
<Orum> huh, okay
<GlassFragments> from here too?
<r4m0n> eventually, yeah
<GlassFragments> I still don't fully understand what happened after shitshow was founded
<Orum> probably best not to... :)
<ve2dmn> ^ I try to forget that.
<r4m0n> ^

<angavrilov> is there any reason for shitshow to still exist? it seems even more quiet there than in here
<Orum> probably not, it's basically idlerpg at this point
<Orum> and we all have high scores
<ve2dmn> Congrats... I guess
<r4m0n> it's there in case anyone needs to fill the screen with porn and expletives
<Orum> ah, so it's there for when sf and Majiir are talking about korea
<ve2dmn> It's a pressure valve.

<SilverFox> K so, I have a plan for a set of computer systems for me and my gf, and of course I'm going to set up a NAS-like system. Is there a way to split half so only my computers access it, and a half that only her computers can access, via a password system or something?
<ve2dmn> Make 2 different shares?
<ve2dmn> It all depends on the type of NAS really

<r4m0n> SilverFox: password authenticated SMB shares is a good way to go on NAS
<r4m0n> if you don't care about the passwords and security, you can just have a couple shares/mount points and only mount the right one in the right machine
