raptop changed the topic of #principia to: READ THE FAQ: http://goo.gl/gMZF9H; The current version is Gateaux. We currently target 1.8.1, 1.9.1, and 1.10.1. <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly… | <egg> also 4e16 m * 2^-52 is uncomfortably large

The Big Bad Bruh. — how difficult is principia
<discord->
The Big Bad Bruh. — is it amuch harder than normal game

<discord->
Damien. — it's different. If you're the kind of person who enjoys learning new things you'll be fine
<discord->
Sir Mortimer. — Is there anyone playing KSP who isn’t?
<discord->
smartdummies. — Depends on what you find hard. The biggest initial challenge is getting used to the UI and maneuver planning. After that you need to do your burns manually because MechJeb does not do well executing them. MechJeb can keep you pointed in the right direction but you need to start and stop your engines
<discord->
The Big Bad Bruh. — bruh mechjeb is useless to me
<discord->
The Big Bad Bruh. — and i have a good understanding of how gravity works so i think ill get along with prinicpia well
<discord->
The Big Bad Bruh. — the one thing i dont like about ksp is how weird the gravity works
<discord->
smartdummies. — And if you want to keep your satellites in a specific orbit fir extended period of time you will need to do correction burns
<discord->
The Big Bad Bruh. — yeah
<discord->
smartdummies. — Then I recommend using Principia. Never hurts to try
<discord->
The Big Bad Bruh. — will it cost more deltaV to do stuff like orbit and stuffs
<discord->
smartdummies. — No really
<discord->
Damien. — I much prefer the challenge added by things like principia or kerbalism than by KCT
<discord->
The Big Bad Bruh. — hm
<discord->
smartdummies. — For interplanetary transfers I do tend to design a higher margin of error fir my delta v, but that's because I don't understand the math to determine the launch times or the "proper" injection burn
<discord->
smartdummies. — But I get by. I primarily got Principia for the axial tilt, to me everything else is just bonus.

Damien. — principia is great for the sheer scope of things it allows
<discord->
Damien. — it's got a bit of a learning curve but it expands the game a lot
<discord->
The Big Bad Bruh. — no
<discord->
The Big Bad Bruh. — i am work nasa ok i do good yes
<discord->
smartdummies. — Absolutely. @egg has provided a lot of fun with this.
<discord->
Damien. — @The Big Bad Bruh there's a LOT of info in this channel about things you can do with principia. If you do a search in this channel for images you can find useful discussions
<discord->
Damien. — about low energy transfers, lagrange point orbits, sunsync orbits, molniya constellations etc etc
<discord->
Damien. — a few interesting PDFs linked too
<discord->
Damien. — a lot of academic astrophysics texts are useful for principia

The Big Bad Bruh. — hey could someone DM me how to install principia? ive tried installing and i know how to its just i cant find a 1.8.1 version
<discord->
egg. — @AgustinCaniglia do not link the google drive link directly
<discord->
AgustinCaniglia. — oh ok
<discord->
egg. — that messes with our analytics
<discord->
egg. — and also that means people don’t read the readme
<discord->

<discord->
Damien. — welcome to 2020

<discord->
AgustinCaniglia. — well I just wanted to help somebody get your mod
<discord->
egg. — help them by pointing them to the readme; otherwise they will have installed something that they don’t know how to approach (and quite possible run into installation issues anyway, see the C++ redistributable stuff)

Kerbinator. — 🤔
<discord->
Kerbinator. — I am posting that step-by-step problem is partially because of
<discord->
Kerbinator. — quite a lot of suggestions from some of my ksp friends that frequently uses mechjeb or precise-node
<discord->
egg. — We are aware of how these mods do things, and at this time we are not interested in going down that path

<discord->
Kerbinator. — because a normally used tactic in menoeuvre planning is "rubbing" orbit
<discord->
Kerbinator. — You take a specific step in both normal and radial
<discord->
Kerbinator. — you take a normal amount in normal, and then take the same amount back radial
armed_troop has quit [Ping timeout: 204 seconds]
<discord->
Kerbinator. — then you find the intercept orbit's periapsis time change
<discord->
egg. — this is probably a workaround to achieve something else
<discord->
Kerbinator. — This is frequently used in Joolian system to encounter laythe, so far as I know
<discord->
egg. — which is, constant magnitude, toying with the direction
<discord->
egg. — it may be interesting to look for an editor that allows for that (especially for SRB burns).
<discord->
Kerbinator. — You take a specific step in both tangent and radial
<discord->
Kerbinator. — you take a tangent amount in tangent and then take the same amount back radial (edited)
<discord->
Kerbinator. — Sometimes rubbing binormal and tangent also work (with different step length)
<discord->
Kerbinator. — The essence in orbit rubbing is that your delta-periapsis is very low
<discord->
Kerbinator. — just like this, when rubbing the planned periapsis go this zigzag course before approaching
<discord->
Kerbinator. — (binormal+tangent)
<discord->
egg. — yeah this sounds like adjusting the direction with a constant overall Δv. It would be interesting to think of a UI that allows for directly manipulating that
<discord->
Kerbinator. — directly 👀🤔
<discord->
egg. — (as usual parametrizing the sphere is a bit of a mess, but maybe we can be clever)
<discord->
Kerbinator. — yes
<discord->
Kerbinator. — rubbing is essentially putting a delta-v vector in a certain direction and add it to node
<discord->
egg. — in particular, since we are talking about small changes, the fact that the sphere is not the Euclidean plane may not matter that much.
<discord->
Kerbinator. — (for example, the rubbing between prograde and radial is often falling on a vector at angle bisector between unit vector of prograde/radial)
