egg changed the topic of #principia to: Logs: https://esper.irclog.whitequark.org/principia | <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly…

⟨Proxima-b⟩ considering getting principia, how much performance hit does it have
<queqiao->
⟨Soviet Onion⟩ ⟪Proxima-b⟫ considering getting principia, how much […] ⮪ that really depends
<queqiao->
⟨Soviet Onion⟩ on what you are doing with principia. on how you are using it, what your computer specs are etc.
<paculino>
I personally never noticed any performance hit
<queqiao->
⟨Proxima-b⟩ 12700h+16G+RTX3060 normal spec
<queqiao->
⟨Proxima-b⟩ I'm gonna use it with a RP-1 career
<queqiao->
⟨Proxima-b⟩ It involves plenty of time warping
<queqiao->
⟨Proxima-b⟩ would it slows time warping a lot?
<queqiao->
⟨Soviet Onion⟩ time warping won't, but extending history or prediction lengths will
<queqiao->
⟨Proxima-b⟩ What if I don't "extending history or prediction lengths" , what ever that is
<queqiao->
⟨Soviet Onion⟩ ⟪Proxima-b⟫ What if I don't "extending history or […] ⮪ that would not slow your computer, but then you won't see much about your orbit at a different time
<queqiao->
⟨Proxima-b⟩ Sounds like that won't went well with interplanetary mission
<queqiao->
⟨Proxima-b⟩ * missions
<queqiao->
⟨Soviet Onion⟩ it won't be that bad unless you really love noodles
<queqiao->
⟨Proxima-b⟩ Orbit like Juno probe's could really need those predictions
<queqiao->
⟨DRVeyl⟩ You're unlikely to get a satisfactory answer besides "try." Those specs are good. I'm sure you could feed in some settings to Principia that could make it crawl by asking too much of it. That's probably true if you ran it on a supercomputer. Understand the prediction settings you give it and what they mean (tolerance and steps, mainly) and you should have a fine time.
<queqiao->
⟨Farrier⟩ ⟪Soviet Onion⟫ time warping won't, but extending […] ⮪ It definitely slows time warping. Noticeable at ridiculous warp speeds like 100000000x at KSC, but it’s not a big deal, just looks choppy. Also depends on number of objects in space
<queqiao->
⟨Soviet Onion⟩ ⟪Farrier⟫ It definitely slows time warping. […] ⮪ well, if the warp speeds are that high, then it's definitely noticeable, yes. But then again, at slower warp speeds, it's not that much
<queqiao->
⟨JustLyra⟩ ⟪Al2Me6⟫ Do you have Parallax? ⮪ I did, yeah. That was part of what I had to remove unfortunately
<queqiao->
⟨JustLyra⟩ Also, I am now somewhat competently navigating the flight planner and know how to use reference frames. Only took a few hours and getting a PhD
<queqiao->
⟨JustLyra⟩ When I close my eyes, all I can see are swirling purple orbital trajectories with a looming flight planner window. Principia cured my aphantasia, but all I can imagine are orbit lines...
<queqiao->
⟨JustLyra⟩ Oh, thank you for a fix! I didn't want to have to remove it
<queqiao->
⟨JustLyra⟩ Where does this file go?
<queqiao->
⟨Al2Me6⟩ Somewhere in GameData, but you'll need a new save for it to take effect properly.
<queqiao->
⟨JustLyra⟩ Ah well
<queqiao->
⟨JustLyra⟩ Already pretty far in, I'll keep it in mind for the next go around. Thanks!
<queqiao->
⟨n9gaming⟩ ⟪Proxima-b⟫ considering getting principia, how much […] ⮪ With an i9 9900k, GTX 1080, 32GB RAM - I experience a pretty noticeable hit to frame rate when launching something big, rendezvousing, and planning multi-year long trajectories - all of which is entirely expected and worth it
