egg changed the topic of #principia to: Logs: https://esper.irclog.whitequark.org/principia | <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly…

<queqiao--> Reply to "kuzinat0r: Usually you wanna set your manoeuvre frame to the earth centered when you're in leo. This..."
<queqiao--> <Flouid> I did switch between eci and the moon earth one (meo) and in eci the trajectory just stretched towards the moon and took a right angle out of the system, it looks a lot more sensible in the moon earth one. Also the description for that reference frame says it’s intended for TLI
<raptop> Distant retrograde orbits are useful

<queqiao--> <Flouid> lol I clicked the optimize button on a maneuver and it moved the future plan 24000 days in the future and crashed my client
<queqiao--> <Flouid> is there a way to warp to a particular future orbit easily? I keep overshooting things when I try to warp manually. I'm spoiled by the ability to click on a vanilla conic section anywhere and just warp there
<queqiao--> <Mmeridian> there is a warp to maneuver button in the flight planner window
<queqiao--> <Flouid> yeah but what if it's not a maneuver? like for example warping to ap/pe, or to a specific altitude when doing a flyby
<queqiao--> <ezsnack> make a manouver at that point in time :v
<queqiao--> <Kaborl> Heya, is it possible to center the camera to the Principia Maneuver?

<queqiao--> <Naautilus> how can I point at a principia maneuver?
<queqiao--> <Naautilus> point at purple noodles..?
<queqiao--> <Naautilus> I mean I have an existing flight plan with a maneuver node and I can't find a way to make that maneuver show on the navball or show to mechjeb
<queqiao--> <Nazfib> Do you have maneuver nodes unlocked? I believe it requires mission control and tracking station upgrades.
<queqiao--> <Naautilus> that would explain it
<queqiao--> <ezsnack> do you get a bigger gravity assist if your PE speed is lower or higher? logic tells me lower cuz you spend more time chasing the planet?
<raptop> You get a bigger effect from both lower speed and lower periapsis. Reconciling those is an exercise left up to the astrogator

<queqiao--> <Clayel> lower periapsis is probably better due to distance being squared?
<queqiao--> <Clayel> but i have seen in ksp that the best gravity assists are usually not at the lowest periapsis possible
egg has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<queqiao--> <ezsnack> thats because you arent trying to milk all the velocity from the pass that you can, if the gravity assist is not enough and you need to burn more after it then you wanna get the most out of it
<raptop> There is that, also

<queqiao--> <Jakathan> The direction change is also an important factor as well, and that varies with Pe altitude
