<HebaruSan[m]> Darklight, do you still have that testing instance with lots of records? And could you use it to test the space consumption of https://github.com/KSP-SpaceDock/SpaceDock/pull/281 ?

<Darklight[m]> I can test it today, and yeah I still have the instance, but I need to go to sleep, 10am and up all night...
<HebaruSan[m]> Cool, thanks! No hurry.
<Darklight[m]> Taking a look I would be very very surprised if the db space was an issue, at least compared to the 300gb of mods. I didn't actually know about SQL indexes, and I can't imagine they would be anything other than an int for each column? which would besl sweet naff all
<Darklight[m]> But yeah I'll test it after I sleep to say for sure
<HebaruSan[m]> Awesome, yeah, the index implementations that I'm familiar with basically just store the value and a pointer to the record in another place
<Darklight[m]> *edit:* ~~Taking a look I would be very very surprised if the db space was an issue, at least compared to the 300gb of mods. <HebaruSan[m]> I guess I should list the columns in the PR description...
<Darklight[m]> Also I have no experience with alembic, I had assume it loaded the objects and could update the db itself, because I don't ever remember the generate revision thing
<Darklight[m]> Ah that was setup

<HebaruSan[m]> JadeOfMaar wants to take over this mod that isn't his, is there a process for that?

<VITAS[m]> technacaly?
<VITAS[m]> i think this requires db edeting
<VITAS[m]> i would prefer a new mod beeing created and marked as continueation
<VITAS[m]> in terms of license and so on: it is brought to our attention so we have to see if the license permits it or if theres proof of the the former author allowing it
<VITAS[m]> normaly i wouldnt check such things because we cant check every change thats made on SD
<VITAS[m]> what are your thoughts?

<Darklight[m]> They can add a contributor
<Darklight[m]> The original owner at least
<Darklight[m]> I did that for rockytv for DMP I think

<VITAS[m]> good idea but isnt the idea to hand over the torch compleatly?

<RockyTV[m]> you maintain the original author and you can still publish updates
<Darklight[m]> If the original author has given permission for that guy to take it over, I recommend we add that user ad an additional author. As an admin we can log into other users and add it
<Darklight[m]> Possibly even do it without impersonating
<VITAS[m]> if the original author has given permission he can add that person to make it official
<VITAS[m]> why do we?
<VITAS[m]> im more or less thinking about what happens if the author cant be reached anymore and the license allows somone else to take over
<VITAS[m]> every change made by admins or in the db change the documented history of a mod on spacedock. we should keep those to a minimum.
<Darklight[m]> I'd rather get author permission, there is nothing stopping them from creating another mod though
<Darklight[m]> But if they want to take over that entry specifically, I'd only give them contributors with the permission of the original author
<Darklight[m]> We shouldn't mess with user data
DasSkelett[m] has joined #spacedock
<DasSkelett[m]> Yeah if the original mod author isn't reachable anymore, they should just create new listings for any continuations.
<VITAS[m]> lets boil it down to: if admins have to act we need proof
<VITAS[m]> we only ask for proof and act if we are asked to do so or if someone is breaking the law/threatening the site
HebaruSan[m] has joined #spacedock
<HebaruSan[m]> Yeah JadeOfMaar wanted me to use my admin powers to add him to the collaborators. He hasn't been able to contact the original author.
<VITAS[m]> what does the license say?
<VITAS[m]> in this case im for a new mod that is a continuation if thats allowed by the the license
<DasSkelett[m]> Yes it's `Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike`.

<KineticSloth8StoneBlue[m]> On the original OPT author, I've been working a bit with Jade behind the scenes on OPT stuff for over a year now... Both Jade and I have tried repeatedly to contact the author, by several means... I know *I* have never received a reply. 😦
<Darklight[m]> I think it's pretty standard practice to fork the mod in this case
<HebaruSan[m]> For what it's worth, this is the second time he's asked about this. The previous time he wanted to go in and edit previous releases of the mod uploaded by the original author, and I didn't need to consult the team to know the answer to that was "No".
<DasSkelett[m]> Did he state a reason why he wants to re-use the old mod entry instead of creating new one?
<KineticSloth8StoneBlue[m]> I cant put words in Jade's mouth, but I think it may have been just to maintain continuity, stat history, and didnt require him having to do up a whole new listing, if it wasnt necessary... vOv
<Darklight[m]> It's pretty easy to do a new listing though 🙂
<KineticSloth8StoneBlue[m]> vOv
<KineticSloth8StoneBlue[m]> idk... he has his reasons... he's been pretty hesitant to start a new OPT Main forum thread as well
<KineticSloth8StoneBlue[m]> I cant DM him now, as he seems to be offline rn
