<Judge_DedD>
Oh cool. Yeah I always use jets for things like that too
<FLHerne>
doing it with Wheesleys is a bit challenging
<FLHerne>
can be done though
<Judge_DedD>
It is indeed.
<FLHerne>
(this was in the context of Eddi|zuHause wanting to build a plane for doing such surveys)
<Judge_DedD>
Ah I see.
<Judge_DedD>
It's been a while since I tried it, but planes with those engines won't normally sustain that kind of altitude, will they? If I recall correctly, I would build up speed and then go nearly vertical
<FLHerne>
yes, that's what I said :p
<Judge_DedD>
Consensus!
<Judge_DedD>
You're doing the internet wrong, FLHerne. You're supposed to disagree vehemently and bring up a strawman argument or insult my family.
<Eddi|zuHause>
FLHerne: i could probably have tried flying better parabolas, but the plane had problems doing turns, so it was annoying to try again aiming up in the correct moment.
<Eddi|zuHause>
and the mk2 plane was "worse" in the sense that it had trouble staying straight ahead and tended to swing left or right and start tumbling. not sure where that came from
<Eddi|zuHause>
i used to be able to build planes that could fly stable without SAS
<FLHerne>
I found Mk2 parts are always worse, tbh
<FLHerne>
the only thing they're good at is being nigh indestructible
<FLHerne>
need centre of drag a bit further aft
<FLHerne>
remember CoM tends to shift aft in planes during flight because the engines are heavy
<FLHerne>
so even if it's stable at takeoff it can become unstable after burning some fuel
<Eddi|zuHause>
i checked full/empty fuel tanks this time, and also set tank priorities
<Eddi|zuHause>
anyway, why are there no wing tanks?

You play Simon says with crew on your craft. You find a large base in the shape of a swastika. You're surprised to find Hinduism this far out!
<Judge_DedD>
Is that an Iron Sky reference?
<Althego>
hehe hinduism
<Judge_DedD>
There is truly a Hindu swastika
<Althego>
yes i know
<Eddi|zuHause>
why would people use iron sky, which to 100% consists only of references, as a source for "references"?
<Eddi|zuHause>
that's like galaxy quest's "historical documents"
<Althego>
hehe

how do i use a "VTOL" engine correctly?
<Althego>
to be honest it is easier to fly a real helicopter than a vtol craft in ksp
<Althego>
i almost always fail with vtol
<Althego>
if i turned off the computer help in the control which was fighting me all the time, i could position a chunky ch53 wherever i wanted

it needs to be carefully throttled with the CoM in mind, and the game doesn't really do that

You try explaining Isp to third-graders. Suddenly, time travel has been invented about 276 years in your future. A feedback loop radically alters your past and present.
<Althego>
nobody would notice it. since everything would be in that way since forever
<Eddi|zuHause>
apparently that was the moment where they thought things went wrong
<darsie>
Isp is basically exhaust velocity turned into a unit everyone understands.
<Althego>
or rather a unit that hold absolutely no intuitive understanding
<darsie>
mhm
<Eddi|zuHause>
maybe they thought that was my "gets rejected from art school" moment.

it says that correctly for me

so, this contract sent me to a 9000km orbit with a survey scanner, but at that height you can't run a survey

There's at least one mod that trickles data at a rate suitable for the available power

you can set an option on the antenna to allow partial transmission

i'm having a difficult time understanding the eva construction mode... if i select a small part, i can put it in an inventory, manipulate it, place it somewhere else. if i select a part in the middle it says i cannot manipulate it. so far so good, but now i got a "large" part at the end, and i can't do anything with it, but it also doesn't show an error.

well, you can also get multiple kerbals to "help" with the stock feature, just it's only necessary on planets.
