My condolences, why'd you do that? Anaphylaxis?
<Ellied>
Not quite, but my nose was running so bad that it was making my whole body hurt in various ways (headache, stomach ache, sore skin, etc)
<Ellied>
oh, and while you're here, do you have any recommendations for a small, inexpensive, and lightweight connector that would be suitable for a ~100MHz-bandwidth signal and would be hard to pull out by accident? BNC is a little too bulky and heavy for the muon balloon project.
<Ellied>
SMA is currently the best choice I can think of, but it's really overkill
<Ellied>
LEMO would be great if it were cheap, but it's not, and it's also not as light as I'd prefer
ferram4_ is now known as ferram4
<Ellied>
connectors are always so difficult >:0
<bofh>
You consider *SMA* overkill?
<bofh>
uhh... MCX, perhaps, then.
<bofh>
(aka "BNC but jankier", at least in my mind)
<Ellied>
SMA is overkill because of cost and passband, which are both at least an order of magnitude higher than probably necessary for this
<bofh>
SMA costs a lot? it's like $6 on Newark/Element14 for a solderable male connector :P
<Ellied>
yeah, that's enough to make it the most expensive part on the board
<Ellied>
I was sort of thinking of one of those Molex picoblade things and doing differential signal
<bofh>
RF connectors often *are* the most expensive part on a board, but imho for good reason, they have to survive many many thousands of repeated wear cycles.
<Ellied>
true
<bofh>
Like MCX is cheap & has similar RF properties to SMA, but correspondingly the plugs for it break easily due to being small and thin.
<Ellied>
maybe if I shop around some more I can find some slightly lighter SMA connectors; the ones we have now are right-angles with big honking brass boxes that feel like they weigh about as much as a Pi Zero
<Ellied>
at least the cable end of the connector tends to be pretty light
<Ellied>
here we go, here's a straight one for $1.58
<bofh>
Not bad.
