<SilverFox>
It seems as though oculus is doing research with eye-foveated rendering and eye-tracking for image-rendering in VR
<SilverFox>
I'm personally really excited for eye-tracking and more specifically foveated rendering since it will reduce the amount of work placed on the GPU to render VR, thus allowing lower level cards to access VR content
<SilverFox>
although, we won't get to see VR on a 1030 with any commercial headset, because it has 1) 2GB of VRAM and 2) max resolution of 4k
<SilverFox>
and it has 384 cuda cores compared to the 1050 which has 640, but also only has 2GB of VRAM
<SilverFox>
which the VRAM on the 1030 is DDR4 and 64-bit, compared to 1050 which is GDDR5 and 128 bit
<SilverFox>
if generational improvements between the stuff persists, and a 1050 next gen has 4GB of VRAM, then a 1150 would be the lowest requirement for VR
<SilverFox>
which at current pricing is like, 200$, which is nice
<SilverFox>
however, if we can combine foveated rendering with somehow altering the amount of memory used to store the texture, and lowering it as a result, then 2GB *may* be enough for a decent VR experience at cheap

Can you plug in multiple GPUs to power multiple displays, like one 1060 for three monitors at 1080p and a 1070 for like, 2 4k displays and that's all fine and dandy?

<r4m0n>
GPUs don't "power" displays, they just send the data
<r4m0n>
you need to check how many independent ports you have, though
<r4m0n>
usually the DVI ones are tied to one of the others. you usually get 2~3 independent ports on the mid-end boards
<r4m0n>
some do 4, as do some high-end ones. don't remember if I ever seen a 5-way one yet
<SilverFox>
I think on the 1060 the DVI is tied to an hdmi or something?
<r4m0n>
usually DVI and HDMI are tied, yeah
<SilverFox>
although my 1060 runs two monitors and the rift rather well
<r4m0n>
same encoding for DVI-D and HDMI IIRC
<r4m0n>
1060's can do 3~4 depending on model
<r4m0n>
2 outputs are kind of rare nowadays
<SilverFox>
I think the 1030 only does 2
<SilverFox>
yup, literally only has two ports, hdmi and DVI
<SilverFox>
and it does multi-monitor support for 2 displays
<SilverFox>
although it can power a 4k display, damn
<r4m0n>
same chip, really
<r4m0n>
just way underclocked and with fried pieces XD
<SilverFox>
I would really like to see a passive 1030 though
<SilverFox>
oh hey easy peasy
<SilverFox>
oh wait, this passive gaming one from EVGA has GDDR5 memory on it
