<Pinkbeast>
Bah, one of my monitors has lost the green gun
<GreeningGalaxy>
the green gun?
<Pinkbeast>
The one that shoots electrons to make green
<GreeningGalaxy>
I didn't know it was different guns, I thought it was just different phosphors
<Pinkbeast>
They're not different in that sense.
<Pinkbeast>
It's only the green gun inasmuch as it's the one that is used for green.
<GreeningGalaxy>
huh
<Red5>
CRT, huh? I haven't used one of those in a long long time.
<Pinkbeast>
I haven't since er now
<Pinkbeast>
... one reason being that we're rapidly approaching the point where people will pay me to take them away
<Red5>
I couldn't go back, they're just too bulky.
<Pinkbeast>
My desk is big enough and it's not like being able to store objects behind my monitor is very useful; the monitor(s) are in the way when I want them
<Red5>
That's fair. For a while I had a CRT/LCD hybrid dual head setup, it turned out to be the worst of both worlds.
<Red5>
LCD looked washed out, CRT looked blurry.
<Pinkbeast>
Also EVE can drive two displays (even on separate GPUs, what voodoo is this?) but only usefully at the same refresh rate.
<Pinkbeast>
So whenever one monitor fails, I really want another tube...
<Red5>
I had a 22" CRT for a while, that thing was a monster that I loved dearly. Though I despised having to move it, thing weighed a ton.
<Pinkbeast>
Stops people nicking it if you get burgled, though. :-/
<Red5>
Haha, true.
<Pinkbeast>
Also, welcome back, been a while
<Red5>
Thanks! It's been too long.
<Red5>
I got a new job, one that doesn't have the luxury of lots of downtime to screw around on IRC and the forum.
<Pinkbeast>
I got a new job too! Well, it's like a job except without work or pay.
<Red5>
How does that work?
<Pinkbeast>
Not very well in the long run.
<Red5>
What are you doing?
<Pinkbeast>
Nothing.
<Pinkbeast>
I left my previous gig because too mad
<Red5>
Moved on without another gig to step into? I did that once.
<Red5>
For the same reason, too.
<Pinkbeast>
It's a bit unfortunate especially at a moment of national suicide, but what can one do?

Ah, that's why messing around with code on Keldysh feels so much better than on 55 Cnc. Literally double the screen area.

465 ERR_YOUREBANNEDCREEP <-- why do I get the feeling we can guess why server banning was added to RFC 2812
<Iskierka>
... why does at least half of my system disk usage seem to be like 5 GB of TeX related things
<Iskierka>
I deleted fully 1.5 GB of TeX documentation pdfs (we have the internet now, people!" and there's one 650 MB folder that's just fonts
<Iskierka>
lots and lots of fonts
<Iskierka>
also why does my brain keep trying to close ( with "
<Iskierka>
that would be an excellent way to mess with people when writing a new language though

<GreeningGalaxy>
Iskierka: lol yeah TeX takes up alllll the space
<Iskierka>
I mean, I did give 18 GiB to everything except home and even with that I'm only on like 11, so it's not like there's any worry unless something copies Tex
