CaptainKeeble. — i just got my first relay into GEO with principia, it was hard af but i feel so happy i finally figured it out!
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — @CaptainKeeble what does it look like in ECSF?
<discord->
Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they). — Oh, Damien, where have you been? So many people have been waiting for you to arrive to personally guide them through RP-1 installation
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — Just pin this list:
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — PC in Bath
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — Fill bath with water
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — Plug in and turn PC on

Damien (it/that). — Plug in and turn PC on (edited)
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — Nice. What about if you make the trajectory projection longer? And what does the orbital analysis look like?
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — well i was gonna show you but my KSP crashed, one sec
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — It's ok. It looks nice either way, but bear in mind that it may drift back and forth due to the earth not being completely round at the equator when viewed from top down
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — will it stay in its relative spot for a while, or will i have to eventually go back and fix it?
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — It'll oscillate back and forth around the minor axis. It's most stable when placed directly at a longitude at the minor axis
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — Over Brazil, and directly on the opposite side of the earth are the stable points. It becomes increasingly less stable as you reach 90° from the stable points
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — yeah my relay is by Australia
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — im just hoping that my relay wont slowly drift from its position and move a big distance
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — Functionally it'll be fine. If you were roleplaying a comms sat for a specific country then maybe not
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — It oscillates back and forth within a range. It won't drift indefinitely in one direction
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — ok so say in like 5 years, it will still generally be in the same area?
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — Yeah
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — alright cool
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — Use the orbit analyser and/or stretch the orbit prediction lines out as far as they'll go with as high accuracy as you can to see how long it'll be stable for
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — alright one sec
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — This is one of mine I made
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — it looks like it will go to like 23 hr 56 min and like 50 sec before lowering again
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — it looks like it will go to like 23 hr 56 min and like 50 sec (on the sidereal period) before lowering again (edited)
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — You getting that figure from the orbit analyser?
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — yeah
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — but it seems like it will be fairly stable for a long time
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — I did mine before the orbit analyser was a thing
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — I had to eyeball mine
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — Yours looks pretty good though
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — ill be honest
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — i never used the orbit analyser when putting up the relay lol
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — i used Kerbal Engineer (which doesnt seem like a great idea)
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — It's ok but bear in mind it still uses the osculating elements like stock does, not the perturbed ones principia does
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — yeah i wont use it now
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — I use it (or did when I still played ksp) but just know its limitations
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — yeah i mean i wont use it to get my orbit info
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — except for inclination
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — cause that should be good
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — To know if your orbit is drifting or precessing or a specific period etc use the principia analyser
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — alright
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — so i think my satellite will drift from 23h 56m 50s to 23m 55m 50s
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — just back and forth
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — If the period is changing that could be something else. I'm not sure tbh. It's been a while since I played. It's just the equatorial drift that I was talking about. For getting a precise orbit duration definitely don't trust KER
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — alright
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — The period and ap/pe height does seem to change in KER while orbiting because it doesn't understand what a non-spherical earth is
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — it also seems like my inclination and eccentricity is slowly raising, will that eventually go back down to normal?
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — yeah ive noticed that too
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — Maybe, or it may need stationkeeping now and again
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — alright
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — i mean that is in like 2 years or so lol
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — Anyway, sleep time for me
<discord->
Damien (it/that). — o/
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — night, thanks for being my principia teacher lol

[Principia] CaptainKeeble opened issue #2831: Everything randomly dissapears when flying - https://git.io/JLHsP
<discord->
egg. — note the « other than the bug reporter »
<discord->
egg. — because as best I can tell nobody else has run into that issue, that seems severe enough that everybody would be yelling
<discord->
egg. — thus it is probably your setup being strange in some way
<CaptainKeeble>
could be, I just never had this issue without Principia. I just kinda assumed it was the issue.
<discord->
Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they). — That only happened once and it was from another mod corrupting the save
<discord->
Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they). — Somehow the KRASH save became the main one
<CaptainKeeble>
hmm, it never corrupted anything. It would solve after a simple restart
<CaptainKeeble>
I just dont want to restart my game every 30 min
<discord->
egg. — Yes, clearly the first one is the more likely just kinda assumption:
<discord->
egg. — — an actively-developed mod with a thousand users routinely becomes unusable and nobody else has noticed halfway into the release cycle
<discord->
egg. — — my install has specific issues that, at the very least, would require extensive information and logs to diagnose
<discord->
Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they). — Do you have KRASH or FMRS, Keeble?
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — i guess ill type here instead
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. —
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — i have FMRS
<egg|laptop|egg_>
(both work :-p)
<discord->
egg. — (will probably do like Damien and sleep, though)
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — though I closed FMRS before launching as I dont have it open when im not planning on recovering any booster
<discord->
Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they). — I had a similar bug for one save with KRASH
<discord->
Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they). — and FMRS and KRASH work similarly
<discord->
Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they). — I hope you don't have to get up early
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — some people also said that it could be scatterer but im not 100% sure, ugh i hate KSP on how unpredictable it is
<discord->
egg. — pretty sure Scatterer is a standard thing to have with RSS/RO, which in turn is a common thing to have with Principia, so I doubt that there would be much in the way of flagrant incompatibilities there (also Scatterer and Principia really shouldn’t even remotely interact)
<discord->
Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they). — Scatterer has glitches, but I highly doubt they hurt the save so much, unless it is just like a memory leak or something
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — yeah i think im gonna have to go do a shit ton of googling to find the issue and a possible fix
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — i guess i can try the simple verifying game files
CaptainKeeble has quit [Quit: webchat.esper.net]
<discord->
egg. — (I suppose you have looked at the logs?)
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — yeah
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — well i mainly looked at KSP.log and Player.log, is there anything else i should look at?
<discord->
lpg. — I _have_ seen that bug. I have no reason to think it has anything to do with principia
<discord->
lpg. — feels like a generic "running out of resources with which to draw" sort of bug
<discord->
lpg. — when it happens to me, it's progressive. first one or two toolbar buttons (blizzy's) go black, then all, then the divider lines in the principia window stop drawing, then the 3d scene goes black (not necessarily in that specific order)
<discord->
lpg. — whatever it is, it's not new. I first saw it at least months ago
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — i just kinda assumed it was this mod cause i never saw it until i installed it
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — im gonna keep trying to figure out a solution
egg|laptop|egg has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<discord->
lpg. — what's most interesting is that it seems to happen most frequently to me when I leave the game paused in the flight scene for a significant amount of time (say, having dinner). very anecdotal, though
<discord->
lpg. — Pretty sure it's always in the flight scene (_possibly_ including the map view) that it happens. never the VAB or space center view
<discord->
CaptainKeeble. — yeah it usually happened when changing from flight>map or map>flight

[Principia] CaptainKeeble commented on issue #2831: Everything randomly dissapears when flying - https://git.io/JLHCJ
<discord->
Al2Me6. — I've actually been suffering from this for quite a while now... I've only seen it happen after an extended period of playing (an hour), toggling from the map screen to the flight screen. Icons would begin to disappear, and everything disappears after I toggle back to the map screen.
<discord->
Al2Me6. — My mod list is pretty significant, but are mostly parts/visuals. I want to say it started happening two or three versions of Principia ago.

<discord->
Butcher. — Feels like it just runs out of memory in some fashion, maybe vram? But I don't know why it would. (edited)
<discord->
Butcher. — That would correlate with Venus being broken but Earth not - Earth textures are always loaded, whereas Venus is demand loaded.
<discord->
Al2Me6. — I think that's possible, as I experienced it while messing around with Mercury. Though, not sure how that explains the rest of the UI turning blank.
<discord->
Butcher. — Hmm, just did it again midway through a capture burn at Mercury.
<discord->
Butcher. — Rather poor timing.
<discord->
Butcher. — Luckily I have a 5 minute coast between burns so I can save and restart
<discord->
egg. — Out of curiosity, when did you start using the orbit analyser?
<discord->
egg. — (regularly that is)
egg|laptop|egg has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<discord->
lpg. — I would also say "at least months ago", but that's a very large margin of error
<discord->
Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they). — Does Principia save orbit analyser data?
<discord->
lpg. — I don't believe there's a correlation
<discord->
Butcher. — I have not used the analyser this session.
<discord->
lpg. — I've gotten the most mileage out of the analyzer in recent weeks, and this bug has happened very infrequently in that time span. (possibly because I've been trained to avoid the apparent triggers)
<discord->
Butcher. — It's been hammering me today, but previously I've seldom seen it.
egg|laptop|egg has joined #principia
<discord->
Al2Me6. — I still don't use the orbit analyzer as often as I should, so it's likely not why.

[Principia] eggrobin labeled pull request #2834: A new test of ill-conditioned inner product - https://git.io/JLHhJ
<discord->
Al2Me6. — Funny that you're getting hammered at Mercury, because that's where I encountered it too (though, to be fair, I haven't played extensively at any other body since)
<discord->
Butcher. — Is Mercury tidally locked?
<discord->
egg. — nope
<discord->
egg. — it has a 2/3 resonance between its day and its year iirc?
<discord->
Butcher. — I'm pondering if it's worth waiting for my landing site to rotate into sunlight.
<discord->
Butcher. — Probably I think.
<discord->
Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they). — yes
<discord->
Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they). — Or go to a high polar point with sun tracking panels
<discord->
Butcher. — This rover does not have much power storage, only a couple of days parked.
