egg changed the topic of #principia to: READ THE FAQ: http://goo.gl/gMZF9H; The current version is Гельфонд. We currently target 1.8.1, 1.9.1, and 1.10.1. <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly… | <egg> also 4e16 m * 2^-52 is uncomfortably large

TheSquirrelPatrol. — I must be having brain failure since I know I've done this before, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to target a planet or moon. I know its not technically necessary for watching your flight plan trajectory, but I'm trying to use mechjeb to get planetary transfer windows, and it needs a target for that.
<discord->
Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they). — Just click on the planet in map view
<discord->
TheSquirrelPatrol. — that centers it, not targets it
<discord->
scimas. — The principia main window has a target selection button, doesn't it? Or is it only for selecting target vessels? I forget, haven't played in a while.
<discord->
Stonesmile. — It does, but it might need a facility upgrade if you play career, likely the tracking station if so
<discord->
TheSquirrelPatrol. — there is a button to select a target vessel, but not one for planets. I have tracking station 2 and admin 2, which out to be enough
<discord->
TheSquirrelPatrol. — I guess I can fire up sandbox and see if its any different, but I'm 100% sure that earlier in this career I was able to target the moon to feed into mechjeb pvg, and now I cant do that
<discord->
TheSquirrelPatrol. — but really, I'm just trying to plan interplanetary transfer windows, what is the standard way to do that in principia, is it still put up a satellite and plan transfers, or does it get more complex?
<discord->
TheSquirrelPatrol. — I mean obviously mechjeb isnt going to plot a good transfer, but I want to know the date\
<discord->
(experimentalshells?). — you could use the mechjeb porkchop plots to get a good approximation, but I'm not sure how it works
<discord->
(experimentalshells?). — to actually plan your transfer, switch to [target planet]-centered inertial
<discord->
(experimentalshells?). — and adjust your initial transfer burn until you get close enough to [target planet]
<discord->
(experimentalshells?). — then maybe a bunch of TCMs
<discord->
TheSquirrelPatrol. — thats exactly what I'm trying to do, use the porkchop to give me a window, then at actual mission time, use the usual inertial plot. but for the porkchop planner, I need to have a target selected, and I cant do that
<discord->
(experimentalshells?). — Oh, I see.
<discord->
lpg. — for god's sake
<discord->
scimas. — At least in stock Transfer Window Planner works just fine for rough transfer windows
<discord->
TheSquirrelPatrol. — ok I dont have that, what node/upgrade unlocks it?
<discord->
lpg. — the same node that unlocks the Target Vessel one
<discord->
(experimentalshells?). — you could use the ~~mechjeb porkchop plots~~ (nevermind, misremembered my porkchop plots) to get a good approximation, but I'm not sure how it works (edited)
<discord->
lpg. — _click_ "KSP Features" to expand it
<discord->
(experimentalshells?). — you could use the ~~mechjeb porkchop plots~~ (nevermind, misremembered ) to get a good approximation, but I'm not sure how it works (edited)
<discord->
TheSquirrelPatrol. — yeah, Isee the other two options, not the third
<discord->
lpg. — now go to map view
<discord->
TheSquirrelPatrol. — ok, finally. only took me two days of back and forth asking in two channels...
<discord->
TheSquirrelPatrol. — thanks for the resolution, but it shouldnt be that complex
<discord->
lpg. — yes, how dare we not give you your answer at 1:12AM
<discord->
TheSquirrelPatrol. — its not the "no instant answer" it's 5 different people couldnt answer something that seems basic
<discord->
TheSquirrelPatrol. — ill see if I can submit an update to the principia concepts page
<discord->
TheSquirrelPatrol. — weird, someone dm'd me to tell me to look at the 2nd bullet point, which I just added 🙂 But I can't see who it was, doesn't show up in my history
<discord->
AgustinCaniglia. — maan that user in the forums... who questioned your calculations... how dare he! He should be hanged...
<discord->
AgustinCaniglia. — he is also not respectful.

Ashnoom. — This is gonna get some getting used to O.o

Ashnoom. — When a contract said to launch to 200-900 X 1500+ (first science satellite) I would launch to 205x1505

<discord->
Ashnoom. — Well that apparently didn't work anymore for the 24h stable orbit requirement :-D
<discord->
Butcher. — I always launch a bit higher than that. Also the orbit analysis is your friend.
