egg changed the topic of #principia to: Logs: https://esper.irclog.whitequark.org/principia | <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly…
<queqiao-> ⟨clayel⟩ i think the principia makers are having a lot of fun using ancient languages as release names
<queqiao-> ⟨clayel⟩ yea of course, i just find statements like "Apologies to the speakers of Ancient Egyptian." pretty funny

<queqiao-> ⟨kaborl⟩ Hi everyone, why is the ECI ball "sideways" ? For example the horizontal line isn't the Earth horizon which somehow is my expectation. What does it represent? Thanks.

<queqiao-> ⟨Damien⟩ The line is the equator
<queqiao-> ⟨jone425⟩ hey so im planning to give ro with principia a shot this weekend
<queqiao-> does principia interfere with mechjeb working as it does in the tutorial on the github? as in, will i have to fly manually if using principia?
<queqiao-> sorry if this has already been answered elsewhere
<queqiao-> ⟨kaborl⟩ The process to execute a maneuver node is different and a bit more convoluted with Principia+Mechjeb. IMO, the biggest change is that you're not meant to warp using Mechjeb, but instead you should use "warp to node" from Principia planner. Using Mechjeb to warp is fine, but Principia keeps rotating when warping and the orientation will change as you move in time. Typically you want to warp with Principia 2-3 minutes before to get...
<queqiao-> ... the correct orientation and then use Mechjeb to execute the maneuver. The maneuver is executed at t0. Note that you're not meant to burn manually.

<queqiao-> Because of that, a lot of the tools from Mechjeb aren't fully compatible. But I personally only use a sub-set of Mechjeb.

<queqiao-> ⟨kaborl⟩ * In general, the
<queqiao-> ⟨jone425⟩ would you say using principia as a first-time user of mechjeb is wise, or i would i be better off without it
<queqiao-> ⟨kaborl⟩ Do you mean that you've never used Mechjeb before?
<queqiao-> ⟨Damien⟩ Mechjeb maneuver planner does 'execute next principia node' now and includes warp to
<queqiao-> ⟨kaborl⟩ Yes, but it warps until 10 minutes before the node. And then keeps warping. This results in a mess.
<queqiao-> ⟨Damien⟩ It also does stops to allow reposition before continuing warp
<queqiao-> ⟨kaborl⟩ * mess 90% of the time.
<queqiao-> ⟨Damien⟩ It does several stops
<queqiao-> ⟨jone425⟩ yes, im planning on starting an ro save soon and principia's mechanics seem rather appealing but i dont want to get myself into too much of a mess
<queqiao-> ⟨Damien⟩ I think the last stop is at 3m
<queqiao-> ⟨Damien⟩ I'd have to check though
<queqiao-> ⟨kaborl⟩ It's fine. Just focus on learning Mechjeb's PVG + Mechjeb Node Executor + Principia planner window and forget about the rest of features (e.g. Mechjeb Maneuver Planner with Principia).
<queqiao-> ⟨jone425⟩ alright cool, thanks
<queqiao-> ⟨Damien⟩ I used to do all my burns manually with principia but I've tried MJ for it recently and it works fine
<queqiao-> ⟨kaborl⟩ Ah, make sure you use Mechjeb-dev and not "stable" mechjeb. The -dev version is more stable than the "stable" version.
<queqiao-> ⟨kaborl⟩ IIRC, it stops multiple times. But ultimately it always results in the vessel to change directions. All this results in very poor RCS performance. Annoying, tbh. My advice is not to warp using Mechjeb, but if it works for you then that's a good thing!

<queqiao-> ⟨test_account9540⟩ It might be useful to position the craft for maneuver and spin stabilize it before warping. Unless MJ despins it? (Not sure how it works)

<queqiao-> ⟨kuzinat0r⟩ Geez, just get adequate RCS authority, so your craft can do ~barrel roll~ 180 degree turn in one minute.
<queqiao-> ⟨test_account9540⟩ Not all my craft can do that (
<queqiao-> ⟨kuzinat0r⟩ spin stabilization isn't an ultimate solution. Some fluctuations are unavoidable, so MJ wouldn't start burning if you're not aligned perfectly
<queqiao-> ⟨kuzinat0r⟩ completely unguided maneuvers are meant to be enjoyed manually)
<queqiao-> ⟨test_account9540⟩ No, i mean spin stabilize a guided craft, so when the warp stops it doesn't need to be rotated 180 degrees
<queqiao-> ⟨kuzinat0r⟩ it'll probably work. At least the final attitude adjustment would be small.
