<LunchBot> You expose a plot by Big SRB to sell more SRBs. Here's Wonderwall.
<XXCoder> wonderwall as person to talk about big srb I guess?
<XXCoder> or maybe write a song about srbs
<packbart> or a wall made of SRBs
<raptop> The plot is hydrolox engines
<raptop> Though I suppose underpowered kerolox engines are also part of it

<darsie> http://0x0.st/ohIH.png Not sure which comet orbit is better for Kerbin capture. The big one has apparently no inclination and would require less dv for a Kerbin encounter. Not sure how different the orbital energies are, I guess not much.
<darsie> MOID looks the same.
<darsie> The smaller has 2-3 deg inclination, I guess.
<darsie> Waiting hundreds of years could be an issue.
<darsie> 2.5 h at 100,000x for 100 years.
<packbart> hm. moving time forward might work by setting UT in the save file.
<packbart> but that won't spawn new asteroidal comets
<darsie> Hmm, at that altitude the umbrella antenna might be too weak.
<darsie> 1.5 deg inclination.
<darsie> exactly at Ap.
<darsie> The bigger orbit has 0.8 deg inclination.
<darsie> 34.3 m/s if I want the comet in Kerbins equatorial plane.
<darsie> Takes 502.5 m/s to shrink the big orbit to the smaller one ... via aerobraking ...
<darsie> So 30 m/s plane change vs. 500 m/s aerobraking ...
<darsie> I'll take the plane change.
<darsie> Comets can be much larger that Asteroids with their class being in the range on class H which corresponds to 100's of thousands of tons, although it varies greatly.
<darsie> So, 1 Mt for a class I comet?
<darsie> I'll try 500 kt.
<Funkenstein> I'm getting pretty good at making SSTSOTs
<darsie> what?
<Funkenstein> (single stage to sub-orbital trajectory)
<darsie> lol
<Funkenstein> Or possibly sub-orbital tragedy
<darsie> I guess by suborbital you mean >70 km.
<Funkenstein> I keep running out of fuel with my apodosis at 60-70km
<Funkenstein> 80 once
<Funkenstein> Then re-entry, mostly safe landings
<Funkenstein> I'm just trying to make an ssto
<darsie> ic
<Funkenstein> Very stable leaf-shaped planes, though
Althego has joined #KSPOfficial
<Funkenstein> First orbit from an ssto, with barely enough fuel to deorbit
<Althego> lol why a phone picture
<darsie> Hmm, 34.3 m/s is a 20 h burn for a 500 kt comet with 4 nervs ...
<Funkenstein> Because I have no internet
<Funkenstein> I don't want to transfer files via USB just fornthis
<Funkenstein> Darsie maybe if you could pack a small extra engine to the comet
<darsie> The nerv is probably the best comet pusher engine. 800 s Isp. I need 8 refineries to make the fuel for 4 nervs. Hmm, maybe I shoudl pack an engineer.
<darsie> The best bipropellant engine has 380 Isp, so I'd need to make much more fuel for it. And it's not exactly small. Small engines do little to a big comet.
<darsie> Hmm, that design was for a class I comet on escape trajectory. But here I have a class H comet going slightly beyond Eeloo's orbit ...
<darsie> But actually I want a class I comet. They're so hard to find, though, and with their retrograde orbits I'd require much more dv. I might have to burn for months ...

<Funkenstein> I wish I could pick oxidizer only in my tanks
<Althego> why
<darsie> I'll fly my staff to Jool for experience.
<darsie> Then i need to redesign my comet pusher.
<Althego> but nothin is using oxidizer only. so there shouldnt be any situation where you need extra oxidizer
<darsie> drain valve have thrust from oxidizer.
<Althego> tiny
<darsie> :)

<Funkenstein> So I can have extra oxidizer when I flame out because I'm oxidizer deprived
<Althego> but how
<Althego> for jets?
<Funkenstein> I haven't a clue
<Althego> those are air breating, deal with it
<Althego> that is why they are efficient
<Althego> otherwise they would be worse than a rocket
<Althego> because they have useless parts
<Funkenstein> Answer: switching modes on that rapier with half a tank of fuel left
<Althego> then you remove the extra fuel
<Althego> and your delta v increases because you dont carry it around
<Funkenstein> But ai want it for traveling once in orbit
<Althego> replace extra fuel tanks with extra fuel-oxidizer tanks
<Althego> you actually need very little extra fuel to get into orbit with an airbreathing ssto
<Funkenstein> I have only one tank
<Funkenstein> And a row of mk0
<Funkenstein> I removed the mk0, I still get the same orbit with 100ms
<Funkenstein> I've watched planty of Matt lowne you'd think I could at least get to minmus
<Funkenstein> I hype up the NERV then can't get just rapiers out of lko
