<darsie> .
<Izaya> a planet is just the moon of a star
<Izaya> if you squint, anyway
<darsie> The Moon could be considered a planet.
<darsie> If it wasn't bound to Earth.
<darsie> The total mass of the asteroid belt is calculated to be 3% that of the Moon.[2]
<darsie> Die Gesamtmasse aller Asteroiden des Hauptgürtels beträgt etwa 5 Prozent der Masse des Erdmondes
<Kalpa> Due to several factors, Moon-Earth system could be considered a double planet instead of a parent-satellite
<raptop> A few people are of the opinion that the dynamical parts of the current planet definition are bad, and the dozen or so moons that have pulled themselves into spheres and have evidence of geologic* activity should count
<raptop> I'm not sure I agree, but they are at least consistent
<Kalpa> Should probably just scrap the whole term 'planet'
minas_tirith has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<Kalpa> Not sure if that'd be possible considering how ingrained it is in the culture by now
<darsie> A youtuber said when we find planet 9 and it's bigger then Earth but hasn't cleared its orbit, then the IAU is in trouble.

<SporkWitch> Transporter 6 Mission Control Audio just went live https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qxu5J5ioF84
<Althego> and the video stream https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSRXacd8wU8
<Althego> i hope the bird finishes soon or i need to miss one, since phone clients dont support multiple videos at the same time
<SporkWitch> if you're on android, you could do split screen with two different browsers, heh
<SporkWitch> e.g. youtube app on half the screen, firefox for android with hte other video on the other half of the screen. Far from ideal, but should work.
<SporkWitch> as to the definition debate earlier, it really just comes down to coming up with one that's USEFUL. If Pluto met whatever definition was agreed upon, then the term "planet" would be too broad to be useful as a descriptor, since it would include things like Eris and Ceres; creating the new classification, we have more, clear terms that instantly convey a variety of facts about the subject
<SporkWitch> being described
<SporkWitch> it's why (legitimate) scientists get so bogged down in semantic arguments and explicitly lay out definitions at the start of papers: to make clear how they'll be using a term and what they mean by it, if it doesn't have a 100% unanimous / axiomatic definition

<SporkWitch> kinda neat from a couple weeks ago. Modeling the crazy orbits that a geocentric flat earth model would necessitate lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDShWTVNobY

<darsie> How can I extend/retract a landing gear with the KAL-1000 controller?
<darsie> Is it possible?
<darsie> I get a dashed line, can add a point, but not move the point/line.

<darsie> I do the gear with the gear action group.
<SporkWitch> i've never messed with the kal or robotics stuff really, so can't offer any meaninful feedback or advice, sorry :(
<darsie> I got it working, I think.
<darsie> hmm, not exactly ...
<Althego> hehe that reminds me of the intro of outcast
<Althego> so your precious lab blew up? not exactly
<Althego> and when the helicopter turns the see the black hole like structure that is eating up everything where the lab was
<SporkWitch> lol
<Althego> that prerendered cg didnt age well though
<SporkWitch> transporter-6 SES-2, SECO-2, and payload deployment start looks to be in about 5 or 10 minutes
<SporkWitch> commentary back up

<SporkWitch> why not just mount the gear directly on the girders? it looks like it's plenty to give you the reach to protect the engine. Looks neat, I guess, just not necessary, and probably adds weight
<darsie> which girder?
<darsie> When I mount it to the fuel tank above it's too high.
<darsie> I could use struts to mount it lower, but I decided to do it this way this time.
<SporkWitch> the square girders you have attached to the hinges and rotors. You could instead just mount a couple of those below the ttank and achieve the same effect, with as much clearance, and i suspect less weight and complexity
<darsie> This is an Eve fuel station, bringing fuel from Gilly and aerobraking to LEO.
<darsie> So it must take some heat.
<darsie> there are cubic octagonal struts. I could do that, but when I deploy them further outside it's more stable.
<darsie> octagonal strut*
<SporkWitch> ah, so it was more about keeping it compact during launch and flight, while letting you get a wider stance, rather than just getting the reach below the engine bell
<SporkWitch> that makes more sense, now
<darsie> Also more aerodynamic

<SporkWitch> i'm in a gaming limbo for the moment. I've beaten pretty much all the indie stuff i've been playing lately, or am waiting on the next content update for same. Really wanting some KSP, but at the same time kind of don't wanna continue my KSP save this close to KSP2 lol
<darsie> I don't have Windows.

<darsie> hi Tank2333
<SporkWitch> debating picking up elden ring on ps4. Grabbed it on PC during the winter sale, but it has crippling frame stuttering and it's very clearly a game issue, as it's stable 50+ FPS as long as I don't move the camera and only move forward or back, but touch the mouse at all and it drops to 3FPS or so, until about 1 second after stopping moving the mouse
<SporkWitch> had to refund it after half an hour of trying various tricks to address it I could find
<Althego> other people didnt have that problem
<Althego> maybe it doesnt like the cideo card
<SporkWitch> dunno, I feel like the 3080 is probably the most common 30-series card people would get since it's only a couple hundred more than the 3070 for a good performance bump, and only 2/3 the price of the 3090. Unless it's specifically the STRIX variant, which I doubt, since it's just a better stock cooler and a stock overclock.
<SporkWitch> searching around while i was troublehooting, frame stuttering seems to be a consistent issue with elden ring on PC, the only variable is the severity
<Althego> then mmay be something else
<SporkWitch> don't mind playing on console much, since it plays better with a gamepad anyway, just would have liked the better graphics on PC heh
<SporkWitch> i'll probably see if buying it on PS4 also gets me the PS5 version, so i don't feel like i'm wasting money if/when i eventually get a PS5 (been waiting on an exclusive to catch my attention, but so far haven't heard of any)
<SporkWitch> around the 15 minute mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aFsRzFBDI0
<SporkWitch> for comparison he's using PS5-equivalent settings just at higher resolution, which probably explains why the issues were very noticeable and extremely annoying, but not outright crippling. He also notes that even cranking setting down couldn't resolve it fully, just more manageable
<SporkWitch> end conclusion seems to be playing the PS4 version on the PS5 results in the best quality and performance combination, followed by PS4 version on PS4 Pro
