that was fro ma free sound library or so
<Althego>
i have heard it in some b scifi too
<packbart>
yeah, I heard a Doctor Who audiobook where they used that sound just too often
<Althego>
hehe i havent seen the first 3 for sure

You try to fly the Aeris 4A to orbit. You go to jail.
<raptop>
Remember when the Aeris 4A was basically the tailstrike 4A, and had really poor stability?
<packbart>
No
<Funkenstein>
Nope lol I haven't touched the stock craft
<raptop>
It was like that for a while, though the current one should be decent

1.4 was my first KSP, I think
<raptop>
My hot take on those videos is that they're bad. Not for any technical reason, but because of how they push the "KSP is a disaster simulator (that people sometimes do spaceflight in)" idea
<raptop>
Which I suppose sounds contradictory given how many bad outcomes I put in ;mission >.>

I do wish it started with the usual Newton's cannonball thing
<Funkenstein>
I've just broken my finger with a sword(technically someone else did the breaking, but even so) which makes using wasd a bit difficult, does the average flight stick work for KSP or would it just be a hassle
<Althego>
it does
<FLHerne>
to make it a bit clearer what "missing the ground" actually means
<Althego>
but my experience is, there is something strange with the joystick, and it makes it basically not more useful than the keyboard
<Althego>
taniwha even wrote a whole new joystick driver for ksp to fix that, but it works only on linux
<Funkenstein>
Yeahh that's what I was worried about
<Althego>
i originally bought a joystick so that i can do fine tiny motions
<Althego>
it turns out the game doesnt allow that
<Funkenstein>
However the splint could hit w,a, and s all at once
<Funkenstein>
Aw, lame. I hope KSP2 allows custom control options

You attempt to make a rocket using sausage for propellant. It is used by nefarious porpoises.
<Althego>
it was useful for elite dangerous though
<Funkenstein>
I'll bet
<Funkenstein>
I'm a bit mixed up, is elite dangerous like no man's sky but with more Shooty McGun
<Althego>
i would say in nms the space thing is completely secondary
<Althego>
you collect, build, explore, communicate, etc, and meanwhile you can fly a spaceship
<Althego>
even combat is greatly simplified
<Althego>
elite is more about your ship and space
Tank2333 has joined #KSPOfficial
<Funkenstein>
I definitely missed the whole "communicate" bit of nms, I saw one other player and they waved, shot at me, and flew away. Also I rarely built anything unless I thought the planet or formation was particularly interesting/unique or was very hospitable, in which case I threw down the basics and moved on
<Funkenstein>
I spent a great deal of time warping and pirating the deep space carriers
<Funkenstein>
Sounds like elite dangerous is the right option
<Althego>
ah i mean with aliens
<Althego>
it basically has a whole base construction part, you an build complex buildings
<Althego>
you can explore stuff and collect resources on the surface
<Althego>
once you set up teleporters you dont even need to fly your ship
<FLHerne>
that does sound like you're playing NMS like it's E:D
<Althego>
i got bored with it
<Althego>
i was completely uninterested in the main story
<Althego>
the other parts were ok
<Althego>
ok i havent played elite for years now
<Althego>
but that was more about flying than anything else
<Althego>
while nms was eveyrthing else, and not flying
<SporkWitch>
NMS is fun, but doesn't really have longevity. I get more playtime out of it than E:D since it's actually fun, but yeah, you go through, you do the new content, you take a nap until the next big patch. Upside is they seem to have 2-4 of those per year these days.
<SporkWitch>
They've massively improved the flying in NMS. I'd ALMOST go as far as saying it's better than E:D, but it's too arcadey and not trying to be realistic, so the fact that they actually handle passably well isn't really a point over E:D's unflyable garbage
<Althego>
i am afraid ksp2 could fail easily because they can add too much complexity. interstellar travel and remote base building and management may be too hard of a hurdle

<SporkWitch>
roadmap looks solid to me. Core mechanics → science mode → career mode. Only AFTER these (basically getting it back to KSP1 levels of completeness) do they introduce the fancy new stuff. They're also not working in a vacuum, as I'm 100% certain they're aware of KSPIE, MKS, and others, what they do right, what they don't, and the need to simplify for accessibility
<Althego>
i am also questioning their engine choice
<Althego>
ok i aknow almost nothing of game engines
<SporkWitch>
bit late for an engine swap lol
<Althego>
they already rewrote ksp2 at kelast once
<Althego>
or was it twice?
<Althego>
could have changed the engine
<SporkWitch>
engine swaps mid-development are the single most common cause of abandoned development or development hell (Duke Nukem Forever being a prime example, as it went through MULTIPLE engine swaps because it was taking so long, because it was doing an engine swap)
<Althego>
may be so. but why did they keep unity?
<SporkWitch>
popular, portable, easy to work with
<Althego>
as opposed to unreal?
<SporkWitch>
maybe they think epic are dicks, liek the rest of gamers do?
<Althego>
not recommended word detected
<SporkWitch>
Unreal also has serious issues with large maps. Look at the survival sandbox games that use it.
<Funkenstein>
Lol
<Althego>
ksp is the size that no engine can handle it
<Althego>
at least no generic
<Funkenstein>

SporkWitch: to be fair to DKF, going from a 2D platformer-ish game to what it finally became is more than just an engine swap
<FLHerne>
they pretty much swapped the entire game concept multiple times
<SporkWitch>
FLHerne: was it ever intended as a 2d platformer? O.o I thought it was always intended to succeed Duke3d?
