Mat2ch: Or, ofc, you can manually use the rocket equation with the exact amount of cargo needed.
<darsie>
But you can't fill in arbitrary amounts of fuel. Or is there a numeric entry mode?
<Mat2ch>
In fact there is. Not sure if it works for fuel though.
<Mat2ch>
Sometimes you can click on the # symbol on the dialog and get a manual dialog
<Mat2ch>
But this will have to wait until tonight. I'm watching in fear the temperature rise.
<darsie>
Works to 3 decimals.
<darsie>
But you probably want a bit excess dv, anyways.
<Althego>
temperature in the house?
<darsie>
<Mat2ch> Eh, it looks like I have to mine at Val. But Val needs ~1000 m/s dV down and up again. So in total 2000 m/s dV, but with different loads. Down empty, up full.
<Mat2ch>
I like to bring a bit more dV, because orbit is one thing, manouvering to the carrier rocket another
<darsie>
Gotta bring it to Kerbin (surface?)?
<Mat2ch>
I will use it for refueling my Jool mission

Mat2ch: Ahh. Mining Pol might be easier.
<Mat2ch>
But the game doesn't want me to go to Pol :)
<darsie>
Oh, so you accepted this as a mission to mine Vall, but will use it for refueling your Jool mission.
<Mat2ch>
the mission is to land on Val and I need a refuel anyways
<Mat2ch>
also I like to build overbuilt stuff. :D

FLHerne: Pinkbeast: I finally finished The Shepherd's Crown and therefore the whole discworld series. And I think the last book is one of the best. It goes full circle in so many ways, I could write a paper on it.
<FLHerne>
It is, I was so glad to discover that after the previous few were a bit patchy
<FLHerne>
it's the perfect book to end with
<Mat2ch>
And I'm glad he ended it there, even though he had to. With the introduction of trains it's getting hard to explain why there's no electricity yet. And adding more modern elements means planes and cars (there was even a short joke about someone asking why a steam engine can't be on a coach).
<Mat2ch>
And in the end it would have questioned why there is magic anyway.
<Mat2ch>
And fantasy would've turned into scifi.
<Mat2ch>
(at this point most screenwriters would start eying a reboot)
<FLHerne>
.outcome add All of the work on this rocket must be done by you. It will be yours, from top to bottom, and you will fly it to where the stars rise.

<FLHerne>
It's already a long way from the sword-and-sourcery first couple of books
<FLHerne>
Whenever I think about it I'm amazed that Pratchett managed to make it feel like a coherent setting
<FLHerne>
(aside from Pyramids and Small Gods it's not even a long time period, Rincewind is around for pretty much everything)
<FLHerne>
?
<FLHerne>
~?
<Mat2ch>
In Raising Steam years must have gone by, because it takes time to lay the tracks. But overall I always had the feeling that the whole series was mostly in "realtime". So a bit over 30 years from the first novel to the last.

reminds me of a story a guy told me. he drove into the ditch next to the road with high speed. and then he called the police. and the policeman gave him the advice to not call the police in such case, because now he has to issue a ticket for causing a public road accident
