<Mat2ch> Has anyone watched the Squadron 42 gameplay preview, too?
<Mat2ch> I wanted to take just a peak, but stayed for the whole thing and was sad, when it ended...

<Mat2ch> "Explore Eeloo" and right after that "Explore Moho".
<Mat2ch> I knew it!
<Althego> hehe
<Mat2ch> This game likes to play games with me. But I came prepared!

<Mat2ch> how deep are Kerbins oceans? Because this probe doesn't want to float...
<Mat2ch> and now I have to wait until it gets to the bottom of the ocean
<Althego> hehe
<Althego> i remember i had problem finding a really deep spot
<Althego> normally everything floats though
<Mat2ch> 1184 m at that point...
<Althego> inflatable floaters, not in game
<Althego> ballast tanks, not in game
<Mat2ch> well, the plan was to land and recover, not to build a submarine :)
<Mat2ch> "Land on Eeloo". I still don't trust the game that it's done with the Moho missions.
<Mat2ch> Also Eeloo is hard. Hard on my nerves. 7 years transfer time... I hope my Kerbals bring enough snacks.

<darsie> Mat2ch: The lowest point is almost 1.4 km deep and about 313° south-west of the Kerbal Space Center. https://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Kerbin
<Mat2ch> oh, wow, I was rather close to that then
<Mat2ch> what was the name of the mod with the warp drive, where you didn't just need the drive itself, but power up a reactor and everything?
<Azander> ixs something
<Azander> IXS-Warpship
<Azander> that one plus the Near Future mods are my favorite :)
<darsie> "Model, 196 m2 1.12 mN 400 m/s delta-v demonstrated in interplanetary space[92]" rly?
<darsie> solar sail
<darsie> I considered we'd cross the Milky Way with solar sails instead of spreading via different galactic orbital periods.
<darsie> umm, additionally
<darsie> I guess lightsails would degrade during interstellar trips and might have to be recycled.
<Judge_Dedd> Darsie, sails aren't going to be giving you any thrust in interstellar space, so all your acceleration will have to be close to a star. Doesn't sound like an ideal use case to me.
<darsie> The idea is to accelerate at every star we pass.
<Judge_Dedd> Oh, so you're starting off with a high velocity and you just need boosts and direction changes along the way?
<darsie> yeah
<darsie> Maybe depart with ion thrusters or space lasers.
<darsie> kill our orbital velocity, fall straight throuh the galactic center, use the SMBH to aim at our target and decelerate on the way up.
<darsie> Reel in the solar sail after passing stars and recreate and deploy it upon the next stellar encounter.
<Judge_Dedd> Sounds feasible. Bring a good book though.
<darsie> :)
<darsie> No wet organisms would be on the trip. Just AI and/or uploaded human minds. They'd turn off in interstellar space when power is less than stellar.
<Judge_Dedd> !mission add Your trip through the galactic centre will take a while. You should perhaps bring a good book and some tasty snacks.
<LunchBot> Added mission: Your trip through the galactic centre will take a while. You should perhaps bring a good book and some tasty snacks.
