Context: showing the limits of high precision spectroscopy on a given instrument. Eventually the required exposure times become so long, that the star will set (or the sun will rise) first.
<SnoopJeDi>
is the odd-duck bin a typical thing in publication?
<SnoopJeDi>
(presumably N=1?)
<SnoopJeDi>
I'd say CDF if it's a must-keep, it throws off the scale badly in the PDF plot
<UmbralRaptor>
The odd-duck bin is so I can show how many stars got 0 observations.
<UmbralRaptor>
<_<
<UmbralRaptor>
But, this could be a bad way. (as you implied)
<SnoopJeDi>
I'd probably put that in the caption, or as text on the figure itself
<UmbralRaptor>
It's possible that the majority of the text on my poster will be captions.

oh neat, he's discussing the work done at DNeg a little bit
<SnoopJeDi>
Apparently he is of the opinion that the wormhole is the most egregious violation of the laws of physics in the film
<SnoopJeDi>
(can't say I agree, the spinning docking seems FAR less plausible?)

Maybe a graph (or at least that sort of graph) is the wrong way to show the data.

whitequark: so I'd say the giant lossless touhou torrent but I have no idea what happened to that since nyaa got shut down, so at this point I'm actually not sure.
<bofh>
there *has* to be a better option than just YTrips tho...
<whitequark>
which torrent
<whitequark>
magnet is a thing
<bofh>
whitequark: http://www.tlmc.eu/ there's even a new one out as of a few days ago
<bofh>
it's got like every single touhou-related/touhou-adjacent song ever, so you prolly want to select only the ones you want to grab from the torrent
<bofh>
(also magnet doesn't help much if the tracker is down. DHT *does*, but often has a limited timeframe of usefulness for each torrent file due to bootstrap nodes eventually all changing from the ones in the file to new IPs)
<whitequark>
patience is golden with DHT

bofh: so we've been doing profile guided optimization on the ksp plugin based on a manually-recorded journal of actually playing the game, which makes me increasingly nervous (what if we miss an actually-hot path, e.g. run the game on stock and don't go through the oblateness path)
<egg>
bofh: so I'm considering making the larger bits of principia::physics (mostly the ephemeris) their own dynamic library (with only the instantiations used in the KSP plugin), that we can optimize and then benchmark on its own
<egg>
bofh: has to be a dynamic library though because msvc won't do profile-guided optimization on static libs
<bofh>
wait, why the fuck not? that's an idiotic limitation.
<egg>
bofh: dunno, but it's annoying me
<egg>
bofh: I think the thing is on msvc pgo implies lto
APlayer has quit [Ping timeout: 383 seconds]
<egg>
bofh: aaaaaaaaaaargh but that's not going to work because the bits in ephemeris don't have a DLL interface
