raptop changed the topic of #principia to: READ THE FAQ: http://goo.gl/gMZF9H; The current version is Fréchet. We currently target 1.5.1, 1.6.1, and 1.7.x. <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly… | <egg> also 4e16 m * 2^-52 is uncomfortably large

Falcon. — That is what I have been doing for the most part egg, what i was planning on doing, was planning all my maneuvers through the original model, deleting that plan, then copying the 2nd and 3rd maneuvers now onto the new plans 1st and 2nd maneuvers, (copying from a screenshot) then going from there
<discord-_>
Falcon. — that is how i was planning to do it
<discord-_>
Falcon. — yeah, enough playing around this evening, slowly learning about how to do interplanetary missions then
<discord-_>
Kirk. — Aw, you told him the truth? Convincing people the IRC bot is sentient is fun

lpg. — sorry. it got painful to watch
<discord-_>
lpg. — @egg still looking for saves with long-lived boring craft? my quicksave times have gotten out of hand, so this is as long-lived as mine are going to get. (2 vessels, 1600d and 1400d, accounting for 155MB of a 162MB save)
<discord-_>
neph. — That was hard to read
<discord-_>
neph. — I'm laughing in the club

Sir Mortimer. — @egg I will, but I'll be quite swamped by real life matters for a while
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — oh my
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — > I dont know the difference between a human talking through it and the algorithm
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — my sides 🤣
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — don't worry falcon, they do that all the time 😛
<discord-_>
neph. — I'd pay to get somebody to set up a couple covert GPT-2 bots and unleash them on the server
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — I've been discovered.
<discord-_>
Standecco. — I'm starting to notice that english has 10 times the amount of sounds of romance languages
<discord-_>
Butcher. — English is a bit odd, because it's a mashup of greek, latin, french and german
<discord-_>
Standecco. — yeah but what even is y
<discord-_>
Butcher. — I suppose, saxon rather than german.
<discord-_>
Standecco. — latin or greek had that as a u
<discord-_>
Standecco. — in a similar pronunciation to "you"
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — y ~ ü
<discord-_>
neph. — Here's a pretty tame phonemic chart for standard (received?) English. Once you start trying to keep track of all the myriad regional accents it quickly becomes horribly overwhelming.
<discord-_>
Standecco. — I guess the v or c (like in cheese, not cake) were also not present in latin or greek, but those appeared in other languages too
<discord-_>
Butcher. — They could be sounds from germanic influence rather than latin.
<discord-_>
Standecco. — @neph the vowels alone are almost as big as the entire italian phonetic alphabet
<discord-_>
neph. — Yet there are so many more out there!
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — the hardest thing to teach to kids here is how different pronounciation is from the written form. we're used to write stuff as we speak it in german. similar to latin. but then you sit there and have to explain to a 6 year old why the english say i to the letter e, and how u is pronounced as a most of the time...
<discord-_>
Butcher. — Yeah, I'm learning Spanish and it's nice to have one pronunciation for everything and no silent letters.
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — hermano!
<discord-_>
Butcher. — You can thank French for a lot of the crazy stuff I suspect. 😉
<discord-_>
Butcher. — Si, amigo!
<discord-_>
Standecco. — h in spanish is not silent
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — but it is a hell of a lot different from the german h 🙂
<discord-_>
neph. — The fact that half our lexicon is Saxon and the other half is Norman and then they tried to latinfy everything in the 1700s doesn't help either
<discord-_>
Standecco. — oh, italian doesn't even have that sound
<discord-_>
Standecco. — we struggle a lot in that regard
<discord-_>
Butcher. — j is closer to other german h I'd imagine (assuming german h is similar to english).
<discord-_>
Standecco. — the real italian accent is not having any difference between words with initial h or without it
<discord-_>
Standecco. — 99% of people either add it to all words or omit it from all words
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — @Standecco a canadian once asked me how we say "good bye" in german. I replied with "tschüss" - and got empty stares. they just didn't know how to even attempt pronouncing ü
<discord-_>
neph. — There's a vowel that simply doesn't exist in English
<discord-_>
neph. — We need to resurrect the Transatlantic accent, it's the 20s again
<discord-_>
neph. — "annyaang"
<discord-_>
Standecco. — @Butcher for u, take the ü in "cuenta" (sorry, it's the only spanish word with an u that I can think of) and make it a lot more closed
<discord-_>
Butcher. — @Sir Mortimer Kindof, but he has an odd accent (he's very Alan Rickman).
<discord-_>
Butcher. — Have you seen The Crown?
<discord-_>
Standecco. — @Butcher for ü, take the u in "cuenta" (sorry, it's the only spanish word with an u that I can think of) and make it a lot more closed (edited)
<discord-_>
Butcher. — @Standecco Yeah that makes sense.
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — @Butcher yes
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — sigh. accents.
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — I'll never loose mine.
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — but at least i can pass for a german, when I want to.
<discord-_>
Butcher. — Tommy Lascelles is a good example.
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — and I could blend in with the siwss, if I don't talk too much 😛
<discord-_>
Sir Mortimer. — and I could blend in with the swiss, if I don't talk too much 😛 (edited)

neph. — Speaking of excellent accents, I used to fly with this guy in CalMil. Endlessly entertaining when he piped up on comms. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4bS_YdNNgQ
