egg changed the topic of #principia to: Logs: https://esper.irclog.whitequark.org/principia | <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly…
<queqiao-> ⟨Nazfib⟩ You don't want to be exactly _at_ the L2 point for a relay sat, since that would mean that the Moon is straight between you and the Earth (and besides, since the Moon's orbit is not circular, it is more of a region than a point anyway). Real-life satellites "at" the L-points are actually in wide Lissajous/halo orbits around them. That means, a little inclination is probably a good thing, since you can then set up your orbit such...
<queqiao-> ... that you can always see both Earth and the far side of the Moon. I don't have any idea as to how you would go about planning such a mission though, other than fiddling around in the MEO reference frame until the final orbit looks right, sorry.
<queqiao-> ⟨TheSquirrelPatrol⟩ There's actually been very few real life EML missions. Several to Sun-Earth L1, L2, L4 and L5, but EML 2 has only had three missions, two of them recent Chinese missions.
<raptop> Bah, I was hoping to mention something else, but Stardust never messed around with Lagrange points, and Genesis went to ESL1. Also, TESS, Hiten, Celmentine, and LADEE used different aspects of lunar gravity.
<queqiao-> ⟨Kerbinator⟩ ⟪Stonesmile⟫ This shows it decently in the stock […] ⮪ From the thumb pic, seems just to be Lyapunov orbit
<queqiao-> ⟨Kerbinator⟩ any guide for direct halo orbit injection?
<queqiao-> ⟨Kerbinator⟩ +(~90deg inclination, in xyO frame)

<queqiao-> ⟨Kerbinator⟩ better without smurff 😏
<queqiao-> ⟨Kerbinator⟩ actually by overusing Nukes and Ions, the two absolutely hyper-overpowered stuff in stock, it can be far more powerful than RO
<queqiao-> ⟨Kerbinator⟩ (especially with no need for life-support, and some advanced stock aero skills)
<queqiao-> ⟨Kerbinator⟩ better without smurff 😏, it can be challenging (complex but not complicated at all)
<queqiao-> ⟨Damien⟩ ⟪Kerbinator⟫ better without smurff 😏, it can be […] ⮪ yeah no shit but I mean for a testing sandbox
<queqiao-> ⟨Damien⟩ so you know how the mechanics work before planning a mission
<queqiao-> ⟨Damien⟩ speedrun all the major milestones so you're not learning the UI quirks while doing it live
<queqiao-> ⟨Kerbinator⟩ oh I see
<queqiao-> ⟨UnboundedBirch8⟩ i remember there was advice to delete a folder to reduce lag is that still what we should do and what folder was it
<queqiao-> ⟨pEdro⟩ potatoroids i think
<queqiao-> ⟨UnboundedBirch8⟩ where is that folder?
<queqiao-> ⟨pEdro⟩ 🤷‍♂️, i just hit CTRL+F and put in "roid", no idea where it is
<queqiao-> ⟨pEdro⟩ * is, found it by name
<queqiao-> ⟨itsRyan⟩ It's not as big of a deal currently. Principia has reduced its history bloat considerably. You can also edit Kopernicus_Config.cfg and set UseKopernicusAsteroidSystem = False instead of deleting the folder.
<queqiao-> ⟨UnboundedBirch8⟩ alright thanks
