egg changed the topic of #principia to: Logs: https://esper.irclog.whitequark.org/principia | <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly…
<queqiao-> ⟨expanders are superior⟩ I see that, but that seemed to only be the current orbit
<queqiao-> ⟨lpg⟩ there are _two_ orbit analysis buttons, one in the main principia window, one in the flight plan window
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ ⟪expanders are superior⟫ I see that, but that seemed to only be […] ⮪ the bottom of the flight plan has a thing called final orbit analysis.
<queqiao-> ⟨expanders are superior⟩ Okay thanks

<queqiao-> ⟨Zeusbeer⟩ ⟪Overloader⟫ yeah, but i kinda suck at for example […] ⮪ Use the final maneuver trajectory analyzer and look at the eccentricity number while changing the sliders
<queqiao-> ⟨Overloader⟩ thats what im doing already

<queqiao-> ⟨expanders are superior⟩ im using the departure info from twp, and this is as close as i could get for a venus transfer, what am i doing wrong?
<queqiao-> ⟨Quadrupole⟩ You sure you launched into the right LAN with pvg?
<queqiao-> ⟨Quadrupole⟩ If you are unsure, TWP can display the parking orbit in the map view
<queqiao-> ⟨expanders are superior⟩ i used MJ launch into LAN with the LAn copied from TWP so i believe so, dont have the game open anymore. i guess i should make the node exalcty on the AN or DN of that orbit, instead of playing with the maueveur time?
<queqiao-> ⟨lpg⟩ no
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ I normally set the tangent to the TWP burn amount then play with timing until I get close, then find tune. You shouldn't need normal/binormal though if your LAN is correct.
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ * fine
<queqiao-> ⟨lpg⟩ [and your inclination]
<queqiao-> ⟨expanders are superior⟩ Huh. I’ll double check everything I guess
<queqiao-> ⟨Just...Shoo⟩ Is there a low-maintenance orbit for maximum communication coverage for any location on the Moon?
<queqiao-> ⟨Just...Shoo⟩ I read about distant retrograde orbit, I wonder how well it works as a communication satellite orbit
<queqiao-> ⟨Just...Shoo⟩ And how do I insert into it
<queqiao-> ⟨pEdro⟩ most high ish orbits are fine for low maintenance
<queqiao-> ⟨pEdro⟩ like, i got into about a 600km x 500km, low inclination orbit and according to principia its good for the next 15 years
<queqiao-> ⟨SpaceMarine⟩ I will go back to this lad
<paculino> You can either capture on the opposite side as you normally would, or when it is barely captured, do a plane change. You'll need more than one satellite. L4 + L5 and a couple equidistant approximately equatorial should be good
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ L4/5 suck.
<paculino> Unless it is barely captured or super low, it doesn't matter much to stationkeep perfectly if you just need communication.
<queqiao-> ⟨Just...Shoo⟩ I'm hoping to use only 2 satellites, possibly 3
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ They don't give great coverage for the far side, and you need mega power because they're so far.
<queqiao-> ⟨Just...Shoo⟩ Yes and I mainly need to take care of the far side, which is why L4/5 are off the table
<paculino> They are the least stationkeeping though
<queqiao-> ⟨Just...Shoo⟩ What about DRO?
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ L2 gives good coverage but needs a lot of stationkeee
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ * station keeping
<queqiao-> ⟨Just...Shoo⟩ I'm thinking about copying this mission profile, but I can't quite nail down the timing for the maneuvers
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ Hmm I should try a DRO.
<queqiao-> ⟨Just...Shoo⟩ ⟪Butcher⟫ Hmm I should try a DRO. ⮪ Good luck, I have been trying to replicate that trajectory in the past 20 minutes, got stuck on the insertion part. Apparently you can't do that without some significant radial burn.
<queqiao-> ⟨Just...Shoo⟩ Guess I'm back to the good o' capture burn. It does have "distant" and "retrograde" in it, suppose it counts
<queqiao-> ⟨Butcher⟩ I was thinking of just inserting directly. Not sure what advantage the nasa trajectory has.
<queqiao-> ⟨Just...Shoo⟩ ⟪Butcher⟫ I was thinking of just inserting […] ⮪ That low-lunar flyby was necessary to collect science and level up the astronaut /s
<queqiao-> ⟨Overloader⟩ how do I resolve this?
