egg changed the topic of #principia to: Logs: https://esper.irclog.whitequark.org/principia | <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly…

⟨ttreed⟩ Would 7800x3d or 7950x3d be better for RO+principia?
<queqiao->
⟨_itsryan⟩ If money is no object, the 7950x3D should be slightly faster due to the marginally higher clock speeds. You may run into issues with the OS thread scheduler not parking the efficiency cores, which would cause huge cache latency issues, but that is fixable.
<queqiao->
⟨Marsh⟩ That's part of my reasoning behind the 7800x3d, don't have to put one's faith into the OS to handle it properly
<queqiao->
⟨ttreed⟩ Does the 7950x3d run very hot? For reference I’m using a 280mm cooler on my current 5700x. I’ll be upgrading ram and mobo as well which micro center bundles for the 7950x3d (but not 7800x3d) so all together they’re about the same price either way I go.
<queqiao->
⟨ttreed⟩ * hot at those high clock speeds?
<queqiao->
⟨Marsh⟩ It does, yes, due to the cache blocking some heat transfer
<queqiao->
⟨Marsh⟩ If I recall the 7800x3d is about 10c cooler, not crazy, but it's something
<queqiao->
⟨Marsh⟩ My recommendation is if you need the 16 cores for something, get the 7950, but if you're just a gamer, the 7800 will be just fine, and not have the headache of the scheduler. You'd probably need a benchmark to actually tell the difference between the two in practice
