egg changed the topic of #principia to: Logs: https://esper.irclog.whitequark.org/principia | <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly…

⟨lpg4999⟩ an answer would only get _another_ request to change minds
<queqiao->
⟨ReaBean⟩ I should land my cats on the moon! plus prolly a blåhaj too
<queqiao->
⟨ReaBean⟩ I just had my messaged flagged for inappropriate content for saying I wanted to send my cats on the voyager trajectory lol
<queqiao->
⟨ReaBean⟩ what about my cats are inappropriate!? Hmph
<queqiao->
⟨Al₂Me₆⟩ (You seemed to have triggered the all caps filter; I am not sure what it said to you.)
<queqiao->
⟨ReaBean⟩ Ohhhhhhhhhhhh
<queqiao->
⟨ReaBean⟩ Yeah that makes so much more sense
<raptop>
The bot is worried that sending your cats on escape trajectories out of the solar system is harmful to them
<queqiao->
⟨feidry⟩ I mean, as long as they have food and water and space to play in.... I don't see the issue. Galacicats.
<queqiao->
⟨feidry⟩ * Galacticats
<queqiao->
⟨ReaBean⟩ Space invaders

⟨(Lu)² (ping me when replying)⟩ ⟪lpg4999⟫ an answer would only get _another_ […] ⮪ I really don't like the mentality of this, you're either considering people being stupid or that answering once 6 years ago is enough
<queqiao->
⟨lpg4999⟩ I can't speak for egg, but I certainly fall into the "both" camp
<queqiao->
⟨(Lu)² (ping me when replying)⟩ That's... Bad
<queqiao->
⟨the rocket science kid⟩ It has been made clear that Principia will never be added to CKAN right?
<queqiao->
⟨blothorn⟩ I’ve seen many “wontfix” GH issues suffer that fate. Many of the people who won’t believe “no” once won’t believe “no” twice.
<queqiao->
⟨(Lu)² (ping me when replying)⟩ I'd like an exemple, thanks
<queqiao->
⟨(Lu)² (ping me when replying)⟩ * example,
<queqiao->
⟨Al₂Me₆⟩ ⟪(Lu)² (ping me when replying)⟫ That's... Bad ⮪ I get the sentiment, but as been pointed out to you by multiple people, that is simply not how software development works out IRL. You might note that in the referenced issue, right above the request for reconsideration is the original answer; if someone found the 👍 button, they must have also seen the answer, however old it is. But being old does not automatically mean...
<queqiao->
... it's outdated. If the rationale behind the original response has not changed, what would be the point in rehashing the same comment -- which the petitioner is of course not receptive to -- every time a thumb gets added?
<queqiao->
Ultimately principia is a two-dev project, and their time is very limited. It's better for them to spend that time on useful features, like flight plan optimization, than convincing a select few vocal individuals that no, this is not possible. (Please differentiate between those who do not know why Principia is not on CKAN, versus those who would comment on that issue.)
<queqiao->
In the end, CKAN is a open-source project. If someone really wanted to allow, at least on a technical level, the distribution of Principia through CKAN, they could have gone and implemented the management of system dependencies themselves. But I note that the associated CKAN issue has been untouched for years, so evidently nobody has actually considered having to download a single zip once every 28 days to be trouble enough.
<queqiao->
⟨(Lu)² (ping me when replying)⟩ They asked for the decision to reconsider, the answer could just be "no and we won't change your mind" and was in no case already said before
<queqiao->
I'm not asking for Principia to be on CKAN, I am asking for bare minimum civility towards the public
<queqiao->
That is not what I asked. This channel is, afaik, NOT a PR. So I won't take that as a proper example for what I asked but at this point I'll just look into it myself
<queqiao->
⟨(Lu)² (ping me when replying)⟩ * our
<queqiao->
⟨November (she/her)⟩ Perhaps I go too far into assuming that there's a good reason that obvious things haven't been implemented (I've assumed a lot of bugs were intended), but this overall seems like a perfectly adequate response. There was an issue, the devs responded to it, and the response is still true. At this point it's pretty reasonable to assume the issue is that the feature is difficult to implement, and not that the devs don't know...
<queqiao->
... that people want it
<queqiao->
⟨(Lu)² (ping me when replying)⟩ That wasn't my point...
<queqiao->
⟨November (she/her)⟩ Fair, yeah. My comments were more general thoughts

⟨sichelgaita⟩ I regret having to point out that the choice of words in this thread ("the mentality of this", "bad", "bare minimum civility") implies a moral judgement on the mod authors that is unpleasantly close to _argumentum ad hominem_.

⟨StarcatcherKSP⟩ I remembered Principia weren’t compatible with CKAN because it’s C++
<queqiao->
⟨jasman3764⟩ Can you use any of Mechjeb planners with Principia (rendevous, target orbit, etc) or is everything manual?
<queqiao->
⟨_itsryan⟩ If you don't have a Principia flight plan active and marked on your navball, you can still use MechJeb maneuvers. They will not populate the Principia flight plan, and they don't take into account Principia effects, so YMMV on them working properly.
<queqiao->
BTW, it's definitely worth learning to use the target reference frame for rendezvous, after you get the hang of it it is very easy and much more efficient than MechJeb in stock.
<queqiao->
⟨sierra_hotel⟩ ⟪jasman3764⟫ Can you use any of Mechjeb planners […] ⮪ Yes, maneuver planner in particular will execute Principia maneuvers once you unlock maneuver nodes.
<queqiao->
⟨sierra_hotel⟩ ⟪_itsryan⟫ If you don't have a Principia flight […] ⮪ I still need to practice more with the target reference frame for rendezvous. MJ has been good enough to date but I know using principia for it will be better

⟨sumguy62⟩ what's the best way to design a stable system? Universal Sandbox?

~~MERCURY6~~ I wonder how difficult it would be to have a script that checks for any obvious(?) problems
