<Izaya>
I've run into the flight state bugs before but I never considered exploiting it like that before lmao
<SporkWitch>
i never encountered it, but i also never really messed with the robotics parts, but yeah, definitely clever usage haha
<SporkWitch>
he did actual, legit science in this lol. this is glorious
<SporkWitch>
(as in, he performed a legitimate experiment that confirms how you would EXPECT gravity to work, namely it's a point value at the centre of a planet, then inverse square rule from there)
<SporkWitch>
(expect it to work in a game, that is)
<Althego>
hehe
<SporkWitch>
someone in the comments suggested exploring the sun, and he replied thinking that some of the aerodynamic and thermal bugs might make it possible and he's going to look into it haha
<Althego>
lol
<SporkWitch>
Kerbal Sunshine, anyone? lol https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0448134/ (massively underrated, if admittedly unrealistic, movie, I must say)
<Althego>
as usual i liked the first half, didnt like the second half
<SporkWitch>
the character drama of it was quite enjoyable, the science was just nonsense for the most part. The end was a little forced, though, I'll give you
<SporkWitch>
though now it's got me wondering if you could theoretically trigger some fission reactions to give some extra life to a star... at an elementary level it makes sense (fission being the opposite of fusion, though the things we use for fission are obviously much heavier than what the sun can fuse). Feels like it should be theoretically possible, just functionally implausible (how do you do helium
<SporkWitch>
fission, and at a scale to "rejuvenate" the sun?) heh
<SporkWitch>
and no, i'm not pondering this seriously, more just curious what the numbers would look like heh

Soooo, Duna has a black hole inside of it. Right? :D

<Althego>
i pretty much failed with every iteration of the electric prop airplane i tried to make for duna
<SporkWitch>
darsie: you see that speedrun i posted the other day? He used a helicopter for his retrieval craft as well. Thought it was really smart and efficient, given that thick atmosphere. Massive ΔV savings.
<darsie>
:)
<Mat2ch>
woah, 8 years ago was that short film
<Althego>
one of my long dreams was a foldable wing airplane for duna. that arrives in an aeroshell and unpacks itself. and it simply cant fly because the atmosphere is so uselss
<Mat2ch>
but lighting up Jool as sun that close to Laythe would burn it up :D
<Althego>
Mat2ch: yes, and all the others, like gravioli, or jeb, bob and bill, etc
<Mat2ch>
ravioli? :D
<darsie>
I flew with gliders on Duna.
<Althego>
you know in ksp, the negative gravioli detector
<Althego>
that is why not gravity but gravioly
<Althego>
i
<Mat2ch>
but now I want ravioli, even though I always have stomache ache afterwards :D
<Althego>
hehe
<raptop>
Eat it with lactase or something?
<SporkWitch>
mushroom ravioli with a cream sauce sounds awesome right now
<Mat2ch>
raptop: it's about the whole quality of that stuff when it comes from the can ;)
<raptop>
ah
<SporkWitch>
yeah, tinned pasta is not exactly great heh
<darsie>
SporkWitch: Pretty cool.

!mission
<LunchBot>
You attempt to perform chemistry on your orbital elements. During your rescue mission you find Tim Curry who escaped to space.
<JVFoxy>
so.. will KSP1 end up going into the gravesite when KSP2 comes out? :\
<raptop>
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
<raptop>
Certainly I expect KSP2 to get a lot more talk, regardless of features
sandbox has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<transhumanist>
whats the difference between scale and rescale in the KSP code?
<JVFoxy>
raptop well given how dead here and a few other places are the past long while, any sort of talk would be nice..
<Izaya>
I, for one, will probably still play KSP for at least a good few years after KSP2's release
<Izaya>
KSP has a big mod back catalog...
<JVFoxy>
lol.. so many missions I never finished
<transhumanist>
seems from what I read that neither of these can be used to scale an object, I would like to scale a balloon by a huge number for a Venus game
<JVFoxy>
well to be honest, part of it was due to a lot of the updates happening and my being a tad.. 'slow' in game
<Izaya>
Plus, gotta wait till KSP2 is on sale at least
<JVFoxy>
transhumanist you trying to scale mod a part in game?
<JVFoxy>
izaya I got sucked into Space engineers and Empyrion.. although I hit a bit of a mental wall when it comes to making 'BIG' ships. :\
<transhumanist>
JVFoxy: yes that is the idea
<Izaya>
SE is endlessly frustrating to me. Gave up playing it a while back.
<Izaya>
transhumanist: I have a rescaled tank somewhere, give me a sec
<transhumanist>
the KerbalBalloonsReinflated mode
<JVFoxy>
oh.. was going to suggest tweekscale mod?
<Izaya>
oh that's a good point
<JVFoxy>
Izaya I made a pretty cool small craft in SE. It has a slight pelican feel to it from the Halo franchise
<Izaya>
transhumanist: rescaleFactor = 2.0 turned the 1.25m donut tank into a 2.5m one
<Izaya>
that just changes physical size though, not the attributes
<transhumanist>
so using that scales the entire object completely?
<transhumanist>
ah right it doesnt
<Izaya>
it scales the model and attachment points
<JVFoxy>
at the moment, its just a friend and I in coop. There'd been times I wish it was more than just us though
<transhumanist>
what do you mean by attributes
<Izaya>
mass, capacity, etc
<Izaya>
JVFoxy: I ran a server for a few months for some friends. The headache of that and the whole "you can do mildly complicated things but no more than this" really got grating
<transhumanist>
https://bpa.st/ZCDQ << I do see the mass entry which I can scale (it does not show units but not sure what the rest of the stuff is
<Izaya>
The jump drive was the worst one. I wanted to use a programmable block to automate it, but the game doesn't let you do that. So I figured, "okay I'll make a mod to remove that restriction". Turns out that they've disabled reflection for the code that implements the jump drive. The easiest way to get a jump drive that can be controlled by a computer is to reimplement the whole system
<Izaya>
yourself. ._.
<transhumanist>
is this all defined in a doc somewhere?
<transhumanist>
I mean each entry or is it mod specific?
<Izaya>
if it's inside a MODULE section it can be part of a mod, but PART nodes are standard, as I understand it
<Izaya>
The wiki has a lot of the part config files on it for reference, but I'm not sure if there's actual docs, sorry.
<transhumanist>
when it says minScale and Maxscale does that mean this is the scale range that is set to work with it with the scale command ? do you know?
<Izaya>
I don't know about ModuleKerBalloon, sorry
<transhumanist>
its too bad their hithub doesnt allow posting of questions
<transhumanist>
github*
<JVFoxy>
Izaya 'complicated' things in what regards? (which game again?)
<Izaya>
SE
<Izaya>
it feels like there are specific ways you're meant to play and going off the rails is somewhere between poorly supported and actively prevented
<JVFoxy>
I've a base on an ice-roid.. just on the very edge of the gravity well.. lol
<JVFoxy>
well ya there was a few things I noticed couldn't really do.. more to do with hinges going ape-crazy, then ships with multiple grids not flying like they should
<JVFoxy>
my limit is more to do with parts variety...
