<raptop>
Given the honk, does this mean that raptors are geese?
<SporkWitch>
birbs == dinos
<SporkWitch>
Actually, didn't they successfully modify a chicken embryo to produce one of its dinosaur ancestors?
<XXCoder>
chicken sometimes has teeth
<XXCoder>
they make sure to kill em because they dont need chickens with teeth
<SporkWitch>
definitely don't need teeth, because in the factory farms the pecking alone kills most...
<SporkWitch>
but more seriously, i saw one recently, not the old 201X one about the chicken with dino legs, but a recent one from the past couple months, about actually achieving some Jurassic Park level stuff of a chicken egg, modified, and what hatched actually was closest to a dinosaur
<XXCoder>
not surpised as chicken is nearest ascensor to t-rex
<SporkWitch>
not wrong, hence my only-half-snarky "birbs == dinos" comment lol
<XXCoder>
yeah
<SporkWitch>
two months and one week until KSP2!
<Althego>
dount count on it
<Althego>
dont
<SporkWitch>
i do, because they're being very honest about it. it will be like the original KSP early access release: just andbox, no science or progression, just the core systems for us to test
<XXCoder>
honestly I found sandbox to be most fun
<NGC3982>
it would be nice to have a complete game
<SporkWitch>
i just likie the extra constraints; constraints force more thinking and creativity. pure creative sandbox i get bored, because you just have everything, go have fun. science and career modes add restrictions, and that forces more thinking to achieve your goal within what you have access to
<Althego>
yes, sandbox is where the game's heart is
<Althego>
you can spend some time in other modes, but utlimtately the most time is spent in sandbo
<Althego>
and this time we dont even highlight sandbox
<XXCoder>
I played few of very early versions. was interesting
<XXCoder>
including one where you just stack parts on pad, no buildings
<XXCoder>
version where if you go far enough up, theres no gravity lol

I guess we'll never know if they succeeded
<umaxtu>
apparently liquidfuel is going to be called methane I'm ksp2
<umaxtu>
*in
<SporkWitch>
that seems odd, considering LH₂ is still used most often...
<umaxtu>
their argument is that methane is a more middle of the road fuel
<Althego>
which i exactly why it wasnt used
<SporkWitch>
it's easier to make, that's why SpaceX is using it since the idea is refueling on mars, still just surprising to me. I think I'd like it more if they went all the way and had different types of fuels with difference performance characteristics and ISRU requirements. If they're not going to get detailed, I feel like it'd be better to leave it as the generic "liquid fuel" and "oxidizer"
<Althego>
if there are other fuels planned in the game, it would make sense
<SporkWitch>
yeah
<SporkWitch>
umaxtu: i'm curious on your source, i didn't notice any new videos from the official channel
<raptop>
liquidfuel(tm) always felt closer to kerosene than anything else
<raptop>
There's a real chance that methane as a nice middle ground is going to feel amusingly dated by the end of the decade, but maybe not

umaxtu: thanks! Sounds pretty great overall, and the naming conventions will be convenient. Sure, I know how to look at thrust and ISP to figure out what engine to use (and eventually just memorize which one i need for a given payload), but it'll be nice and convenient just having things labeled "booster," and presumably we'll be able to sort by those categories as well, so we can easily compare
<SporkWitch>
only ones of the type we need.
<SporkWitch>
It does sound like they're just doing a name change, though; at least with what's in that post, it doesn't sound like they admitting to any plans for a greater variety of fuel types :(
