[#893] title: SRBs too expensive compared to liquid boosters | So, i was a bit shocked at SRB prices (in RP-1/Developmental), and thus did a little comparison. Test vehicle was a Titan 1 like rocket with 7.7t lead ballast. All parts tooled. For the SRB test, i attached two 100 inch SRMs with decouplers. For the liquid booster test, i attached 4 more titan 1 first stages, again with decouplers.
<Qboid>
To get similar performance, i reduced the fuel level of the liquid boosters. Both rockets used identical staging, the center engine is only lit after the boosters decoupled.... | https://github.com/KSP-RO/RP-0/issues/893

Just commented on it Mike`
<Pap1723>
Does anyone know where the rollout costs are located?
<Mike`>
yeah, the decrease in rollout time is a little too much maybe, although i do like them haveing a slighly cheaper rollout cost and time. I can do further tests, i was just unsure if the direction of reducing SRB prices is the correct one, because alternatively you can increase the prices and rollout costs of liquid stages (engines and or tanks)
<Pap1723>
Let me try and find the rollout costs
<Mike`>
rollout costs are a factor of part price i think, let me check
<Mike`>
:)
<Pap1723>
It is based on ModuleTag though, that was the whole point of it I believe
<Mike`>
they're in RP0_KCTPresets.cfg
<Pap1723>
So the solid is at 1.1, you changed it to 0.5?
<Mike`>
yeah they'tre based on it but they are factors (that get applied to part prices i think?)
<Mike`>
yes
<Pap1723>
Did that affect rollout costs, or only the build speed?
<Mike`>
both iirc
<Pap1723>
ok, hmmmm
<Pap1723>
I personally dislike the Maintenance, Crew Training, Tooling, and Rollout costs
<Pap1723>
But that is just my personal opinion
<Mike`>
to get higher build time but reduce costs, we can only lower part prices and increase that factor again, or introduce separate factors for time and cost i guess.
<Mike`>
Hm, i actually very much do like tooling.
<Mike`>
rollout costs... i don't like that they are rollout + assembly costs, that's confusing, those two should to be separate
<Pap1723>
I understand the point of the tooling, I just typically build standardized rockets anyway, so it is just something else to try and keep track of without a great GUI to handle all of the information
<Mike`>
tooling is nice because it makes you reuse previous designs - it might not be the best concept but it works at least mostly i think.
<Mike`>
hehe
<Pap1723>
I doubt anyone is going to have the time / energy / skill to introduce a new value to separate them out
<Pap1723>
I would think that lowering costs is the best option
<Pap1723>
And lowering the 1.1 to something like 0.75 or 0.8 instead
<Mike`>
yeah, i can try that
<Pap1723>
you should be able to write an MM config that lowers all costs of SRB's
<Pap1723>
Or it can easily be done in the spreadsheet as well
<Pap1723>
Man, looking at what we all did for RP-0/1 we did some awesome work
<Mike`>
yeah. :)
<Mike`>
again, good job with the tech tree, it's really awesome.
<Pap1723>
Too bad NK and I ran out of time
<Pap1723>
thanks
