soundnfury: you helped me decide what my career objective is this time. Major ship yard on ecliptic, for manned planetary missions.

Also, should I order pizza?
<Bornholio>

<soundnfury>
Rokker: here's what I posted about it on one of the other boards before https://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/384739-raf-bomber-command-aircraft-in-war-thunder/&tab=comments#comment-7660917
<soundnfury>
Bornholio: snuh?
<soundnfury>

<Rokker>
soundnfury: I dont like paper planes so I would rather you not but you do you
<soundnfury>
I mean, I don't think paper planes should be in the game. But they are, so Britain should get one :P

Why isn't there any serious discussion about the new BFR's lawn dart qualities? If they lose control even once and it goes into a nose dive...
<Starwaster>
also... no abort capability.... that's ok if SpaceX is only carrying passengers that it contracted with privately, but NASA is not going to put its personnel on that thing if they can't man rate it and they're not doing that without some sort of abort system

Starwaster: yeah, someone brought up a discussion of the black zones with the BFR and the lack of any concrete answers pretty much made me go “WTF I love SLS now”
<regex>
I'll bet you the design changes again. And again. And again. It's going to be the next Falcon Heavy due to "it's complicated than we thought."

<Starwaster>
anyone have any idea what kind of mass those fins need to support the entire vehicle? (which is supposed to have a dry weight of 85 tons... + however much propellants it lands with)
<Starwaster>
could they be as light as 2 tons apiece?
<regex>
zero engineering experience, just spitballing, but considering they're setting up a carbon fiber rig for the tanks I wouldn't be surprised to see those fins turn out fairly light for their size.
<Starwaster>
yeah but is carbon fiber/epoxy going to be enough to support 85+ tons?
<Starwaster>
I mean it's one thing to make a fairing out of that stuff or the tanks themselves but the fins have to support the entire structure on just 3 fins
<Starwaster>
incorporating fiber into the fins maybe but there's going to have to be more to them than that...
<regex>
Oh, landing on them, sure. I suppose there would also be issue with the joints on the movable fins when landing, that's a lot of twisting stress to put on a bearing.
<regex>
I'm sure they'll redesign it to have legs that pop out of the superstructure later.
