<soundnfury> btw, it's a source of annoyance to me that the various human moon contracts mostly say "launch a new vessel"
<soundnfury> because both my translunar taxi and my lander are reusable
<soundnfury> so when I do a HSFOrbitalMoonRepeatable or RepeatMoonLandingCrew I'll have to force-complete it
<soundnfury> does anyone else feel that removing those NewVessel requirements is appropriate?

<Mike`> soundnfury, hm, on the one hand yes, it also annoys me when you can't do stuff like flyby and orbit with the same vessel. On the other hand, removing that and allowing you to complete both with one launch skews rewards balance a bit, so we would need to lower rewards for the landing contract roughly be the reward of the orbit contract?

<Bornholio> soundnfury: I dislike the new vessel requirement, disensentivises material left on orbit like you do. some missions they do represent the fact that after each mission new things are discovered and need changes to software and hardware that are not represented in the simple parts

<KevinStarwaster> soundnfury it is annoying to have to use a new vessel but I can see NASA being picky about such things, at least at first. It probably took a bit for them to get used to the idea of reusable craft from SpaceX
<KevinStarwaster> given that there's no way (that I know of at present) to have such a requirement conditional on something else (such as tech level advancement) I think removing it outright is ok

<soundnfury> thanks for the input guys :)
KevinStarwaster is now known as Starwaster
<Starwaster> From the Making Life Multiplanetary doc: "We went through various ideas (to pay for this)- Kickstarter, collecting underpants, etc."
<Bornholio> i'd donate
<soundnfury> money, or underpants? :P
<Bornholio> yes
<Bornholio> wait, YES!

<Starwaster> So, how many people realize (and optionally, are bothered by) the fact that our tank mass calculations are all wrong because they assume a tank volume that is exactly equal to the maxAmount of propellant instead of taking into account ullage?
<soundnfury> I take it that's not what Utilisation covers then?
* soundnfury isn't bothered by it, is anyone else?
<Starwaster> soundnfury utilization could fix it but no tanks are configured that way, not in base RF or in RO
<soundnfury> *shrug*
<Starwaster> But start boiling off tanks because tank area size is wrong and people start losing their minds! (insert Heath Ledger Joker meme here)
<Mike`> you mean ullage in the inner tank? How much % would that need to be?

<Starwaster> mike` 5-15%. I'd swear, once upon a time, that we had utilization lower than it is now. (1, which is basically 100%)
