<Greys>
Mehjiir, have you watched fuckin... silver, animal girl show
<SilverFox>
kemono friends
<Greys>
Mehjiir, have you watched that?
<Greys>
SilverFox, should be bad anime challenge for this month, eromanga sensei
<SilverFox>
are you challenging me to watch it?
<SilverFox>
what was last month's challenge?
<Greys>
kemono friends
<SilverFox>
that wasnt bad tho
<SilverFox>
that was great
<SilverFox>
and educational
<Greys>
warning, kemono friends was well understood to be good before you watched it
<Greys>
eromanga sensei is hooorible
<SilverFox>
well by that, I dont want to watch it
<Greys>
yea but you like bad things
<SilverFox>
if it doesnt reach Ghost Stories level, then it aint shit
<SilverFox>
I like things in which I enjoy
<SilverFox>
sometimes those are things others dont enjoy
<SilverFox>
but I dont find the experience of burning myself to be enjoyable
<SilverFox>
is it so bad that the dubbing team just scraps the script and makes their own?
<SilverFox>
because that was Ghost Stories and it was amazing
<Greys>
there isn't one yet
<SilverFox>
man I miss watching Ghost Stories
<SilverFox>
that was actually enjoyable
<darklight>
Animu....
<SilverFox>
better than the shit you watch
<SilverFox>
fucking shitshow
<darklight>
To be fair only one episode of season 7 has been good
<Greys>
not better than pale cocoon
<darklight>
So you're not wrong now
<Greys>
season 7?
<SilverFox>
yeah, my little shitshow has 7 seasons
Kommit has joined #kspmodders

what shit show is that?
<Mehjiir>
Anything that ends in -mun is probably the site of an historical fortress or gate
fcbayerndm has joined #kspmodders
<Mehjiir>
mun/moon = door/gate
<Greys>
battlemoon
<SilverFox>
yo is Greys about an ajumma
<SilverFox>
like, what's the cutoff
<Mehjiir>
In the case of dongdaemun, the whole art complex thing surrounds this submerged sort of gate/fort thing that's actually pretty tiny compared to other gates
<Mehjiir>
If you like hiking, go to the Seoul City Wall which starts at some fortress/gate thing? and walk along it\
<SilverFox>
is that the thousand step thing?
<Mehjiir>
I found the cemetary near Jamsil pretty cool
<Greys>
jealousy?
<SilverFox>
envy?
<SilverFox>
to covet?
<Greys>
I'm not sure how either of these apply
<SilverFox>
any place that isn't yours is one some level, better than yours, unless it's a third world country
<Mehjiir>
Greys, I want to go places because I like the food, I like the fashion, and I like that American military might makes a bunch of people treat me like I'm a celebrity when I'm in their country
<Mehjiir>
and by places I mean Seoul
<SilverFox>
go to dongu and see how that holds up
<Mehjiir>
wat?
<SilverFox>
its a place outside seoul a few hours or some shit
<Mehjiir>
So here's the thing
<Mehjiir>
Koreans who hate you just kinda stare at you if they have no excuse to yell at you
<Mehjiir>
Koreans who like you will talk to you
<Mehjiir>
so if you don't do anything stupid, everyone who interacts with you is really friendly
<SilverFox>
cool, free staring contests
<SilverFox>
Majiir, have you been to a dog cafe?
<Mehjiir>
Nope, only cats and raccoons
<SilverFox>
lame
<SilverFox>
and less lame
<Mehjiir>
Go to Gwanghwamun for sure
<Mehjiir>
and the whole park inside
<Mehjiir>
Plan to spend the whole day there pretty much
<SilverFox>
alright, why?
<Mehjiir>
It's cool
<Mehjiir>
It's big
<Mehjiir>
It's pretty
<SilverFox>
I'll investigate it
<Mehjiir>
There are people walking around in hanboks
<Mehjiir>
It's also like one of the most recognizable landmarks ever
<SilverFox>
oh there's hanbok rentals?
<Mehjiir>
Yep
<Mehjiir>
in lots of places
<SilverFox>
nice
<SilverFox>
yeah I know in lots of places, they're fucking everywhere
<Mehjiir>
Also go to the stream near there, near the city hall and the US embassy
<SilverFox>
there's also rentals for old-style 50's-70's school uniforms
<Mehjiir>
It has cool laser shows and shit
<SilverFox>
like those old ass black ones
<Mehjiir>
It's also where the King Sejeong and Admiral Yi statues are
<Mehjiir>
and there's a museum underground under those
<Mehjiir>
so all that is like a day or two
<SilverFox>
defintiely gonna see yi and sejeong
<SilverFox>
gotta pay the respects
<Mehjiir>
Gwanghwamun is like right there by Sejeong and Yi, and the stream is near the entrance to that whole plaza
<SilverFox>
where the fuck was buff korean jesus?
<Mehjiir>
In the middle of fucking nowhere
<SilverFox>
oh right
<SilverFox>
was it at least some semblence near seoul
<SilverFox>
?
<Mehjiir>
No
<Mehjiir>
It was like near Busan
<Mehjiir>
but not close to Busan
<SilverFox>
shame
<Mehjiir>
Just middle of nowhere
<SilverFox>
closer to busan than it was seoul, yeah
<Mehjiir>
There's Myeongdong Cathedral if you want jebus
<SilverFox>
naw, I only recognize buff korean jesus
<Mehjiir>
Go to a PC bang, pay like 2000 won per hour, and get schooled at Starcraft
<SilverFox>
there's this buffet place in korea that offers all you can eat, and is priced accordingly, but if you leave any food behind, you get fined
<SilverFox>
I think that's a neat concept
<Mehjiir>
That's pretty typical of all you can eat places everywhere
<SilverFox>
okay so first on the list, Myeongdong

Go to a 7-11 at 10AM and buy a bottle of alcohol and revel in the mystery and wonder that is Korea
<Mehjiir>
also this 7-11 is underground in a subway that's like a second- or third-rate subway station in Korea but is a goddamn cathedral compared to any subway system in North America
<Mehjiir>
but also not every subway station is that shitty
<SilverFox>
alright cool
<Mehjiir>
So yeah ride the subway
<Mehjiir>
uhhh go to a hanok village
<SilverFox>
I can't wait to start teaching there, fuck up my honorifics, get fired, and then subsequently booted from the country
<SilverFox>
oh right hanoks
<Mehjiir>
There's like "authentic" hanok villages outside the city
<Mehjiir>
but ain't nobody got time for that
<Mehjiir>
go to the touristy ones in Seoul
<Mehjiir>
they're still cool
<SilverFox>
oh yeah, and people still live in them too
<Mehjiir>
Well not the ones in Seoul
<Mehjiir>
but the ones outside yeah
<Mehjiir>
You can rent them too
<SilverFox>
oh shit
<SilverFox>
how much
<Mehjiir>
idk probably like 60-80K won a night
<SilverFox>
also, Im sorta planning this trip to be kinda touristy, but also kind of slice-of-life sort of deal
<Mehjiir>
Like slice of what life
<SilverFox>
like, just chilling and not doing touristy shit trying to set some world record for how many tourist spots I can visit
<Mehjiir>
Sure
<Mehjiir>
I went hiking with ahjummas at the cemetary for that
<Mehjiir>
It was great
<SilverFox>
like, sit back, watch tv maybe go out for a hike or something, but nothing intense like going to see some great ass wall or statue or palace
<Mehjiir>
The wall is cool though
<SilverFox>
just like, a chill time that isn't stressful or time-restricting
<Mehjiir>
It's very chill because it just melds into the city
<Mehjiir>
Bruh
<Mehjiir>
Most of the touristy stuff is free anyway
<Mehjiir>
or very very cheap
<SilverFox>
cost isn't a concern here, it's the chill factor
<Mehjiir>
It's also chill
<Mehjiir>
because like
<Mehjiir>
you don't have to be on a schedule
<Mehjiir>
Places like the wall aren't even crowded or have tourists
<Mehjiir>
It's just a thing that's there
<SilverFox>
right
<Mehjiir>
It was a nice walk that led to a park
<Mehjiir>
with lots of couples to creep on
<Mehjiir>
which in turn led to a cool university area
<Mehjiir>
with ice cream and food carts and shit
<Mehjiir>
But yeah just go wander around
<Mehjiir>
You will find stuff
<SilverFox>
yeah
<SilverFox>
also as I said before, I'm planning to livestream most if not all of the trip
<Mehjiir>
wew
<Mehjiir>
hope you got internet figured out
<SilverFox>
yeah unlimited data sim from glorious SK
<Mehjiir>
I dunno how you wanna have a relaxing slice of life experience while livestreaming the whole thing
<Mehjiir>
maybe I just don't Korea hard enough
<SilverFox>
you can be chill and livestream
<Mehjiir>
It was intense enough with my buddy pulling out the selfie stick
<SilverFox>
ever been on afreecatv?
<SilverFox>
there's people that pay streamers to eat food
<SilverFox>
mukbang
<Mehjiir>
...yeah but that's not exactly what I'd consider a relaxing vaca
<Orum>
so let's think about this... if MS really wants to deny security updates to those users, all I have to do is write some malware to take advantage of said security holes and that does nothing more than DDoS MS's servers
<SilverFox>
Mehjiir, I'm asking native koreans of non-touristy things to do. First response given was "Date a korean, pretty non-touristy"
<Orum>
I wonder if they'd still deny security updates to those people then :)
<Mehjiir>
Seems like a good idea
<Mehjiir>
I should try that
<SilverFox>
I want to make it my mission
<SilverFox>
"Foreign Partner Experience" kind of deal
<Orum>
NA is full oof foreigners
<SilverFox>
fuck you
<SilverFox>
aint the same
<Orum>
dating someone from another country seems like a bad idea unless they plan to ultimately live in the same country
<Orum>
unless you aren't interested in a LTR, I suppose
<SilverFox>
so lets see what else they suggest
<Mehjiir>
Yeah nah I'll just market myself as a three week relationship kinda situation
<Orum>
"3 week relationship trial period"
<SilverFox>
that's exactly what I was thinking
<Orum>
"if you're not complete satisfied after 3 weeks, send me back to my own country, at no cost to you!"
<SilverFox>
"Want a foreign boyfriend/girlfriend for 2.5 weeks? Sign up here ayylmao"
<Mehjiir>
I should make a dating site for this
<SilverFox>
Im trying to look for one
<SilverFox>
the market would probs be there
<Orum>
it already exists, it's called tinder
<SilverFox>
nawnawnaw
<Mehjiir>
wat, no
<SilverFox>
you can't really advertise that easily
<Mehjiir>
Tinder's time horizon is like 8 hours
DuoDex is now known as DormantDex
<SilverFox>
this would be like, craigslist for legal dating
<Mehjiir>
No one night stands, no LTRs, just solid 2-3 week sprints
<SilverFox>
tempdating
<Mehjiir>
...Tinder isn't exactly *illegal*
<SilverFox>
naw not tinder
<SilverFox>
there are illegal hookup stuffs like craigslist
<Orum>
so more like 5 night stands...
<SilverFox>
if you have the stamina why not go full time stands
<Mehjiir>
What exactly is an "illegal hookup"
<SilverFox>
backpage
<Mehjiir>
Is Fox speaking another language?
<SilverFox>
PROSTITUTES
<SilverFox>
backpage is a site for getting prostitutes
<Mehjiir>
Yeah nah Tinder's got bots and hookers but it's not *all* that
<SilverFox>
nawnaw not tinder
<Mehjiir>
Oh Fox, in Korea
<SilverFox>
we're on a craigslist format I suggested, and since craigslist, backpage is like craigslist
<Mehjiir>
Ya gotta go to the barber shop
<Mehjiir>
the one with two poles
<Orum>
tinder has hookers? Now all it needs is the blow
<SilverFox>
uhhh
<SilverFox>
those ones in the stoplight neighborhoods right?
<SilverFox>
I'll write that down
<Mehjiir>
We didn't notice that there was any particular kind of neighborhood where they were...
<Mehjiir>
They were just kind of all over
<SilverFox>
yeahhh
<SilverFox>
hrmmmmmmm
<SilverFox>
yanno, I've never been inside one, but those haircuts are stupidly expensive
<Mehjiir>
I'm told it's more like a disappointing handjob
<SilverFox>
lapdance at best
<SilverFox>
yeah not gonna go to a slutshop
<SilverFox>
thing is, I'm really only attracted to cute, rather than sexy, and most of those girls are sexy, because they're supposed to appeal to the masses, rather than niches like mine
<Mehjiir>
*cringe*
<Mehjiir>
bruh
<SilverFox>
B R U H
<Mehjiir>
liking cute chicks isn't a unique niche thing
<SilverFox>
it's not unique, it's just not the general thing
<Mehjiir>
It is
<Mehjiir>
It's just not the thing on TV
<Mehjiir>
except when it *is*
<SilverFox>
anyways
<SilverFox>
how should the site be designed
<SilverFox>
and what should it be called
<Orum>
trialdating.com
<SilverFox>
.co.uk.kr.net.org
<Orum>
.co.ck
<Mehjiir>
nah nah you gotta go all tech startup, like: bone.it
<Mehjiir>
except a little more subtle
<SilverFox>
yeahhhhhhhhh a looot more subtle
<SilverFox>
lets develop some focus, are we aiming for tinder, or aiming for dating site?
<SilverFox>
where is the most focus put

<G-Mobile>
how well do duct fans deal with reversing?
<SilverFox>
idk
<SilverFox>
and I dont think it needs duct fans
<G-Mobile>
Hyratel1: can duct fans be reversible or do they need to have a primary direction
<SilverFox>
I've seen it done with gas props in an 8 prop config
<SilverFox>
can't you just rotate the duct?
<Hyratel1>
depends on the blade shape
<Mehjiir>
What if two dimensional monorail
<Mehjiir>
I feel like I really Greys'd right there
<G-Mobile>
SilverFox: duct fans put out substantially more thrust per fuelwattampyearkgj
<SilverFox>
neat
<Hyratel1>
if the blades are swept or curved, it can be reversed at the expense of effectiveness
<SilverFox>
show me videos of duct fans doing their thing
<G-Mobile>
you don't rotate the duct because the duct has a lot of inertia and varying prop angle is a lot easier/faster
<Hyratel1>
what's this for anyway
<Hyratel1>
RC scale?
<SilverFox>
lawn chair that flies
<G-Mobile>
silver's idea
<SilverFox>
naw m8 i wanna fly a fucking lawn chair
<G-Mobile>
still your idea
<SilverFox>
damn right it's my idea
<SilverFox>
yo where the fuck has ferram4 been at?
<SilverFox>
is he dead?
<G-Mobile>
I think ideally you'd want a 6 prop setup with reversing ductfans in a quadlift platform with two smaller propulsion fans so you can reduce the necessary angulation for propulsion, to benefit the rider's experience
<SilverFox>
prototype time, needs to be functional, that's it
<SilverFox>
make it functional, worry about the other features later
<G-Mobile>
ok so, prototype, look at a quad copter
<G-Mobile>
done
<G-Mobile>
most quadcopters already resemble lawnchairs with props
<SilverFox>
the com is gonna be off kilter tho
<SilverFox>
yanno, "kilter" is a word I've never actually seen written
<G-Mobile>
oh also, another argument for duct fans; if your riding this thing and don't plan to strap yourself in like a mental patient, those propellers are going to be a huge threat to your reality
Glass|phone has joined #kspmodders
<SilverFox>
oh Mehjiir I also got Glass into kpop by threatening and memeing him

<G-Mobile>
duct fans can be meshed off, you already can't bonk a leg in from the side, and then you could safely get away with a basic 5 point harness, and you'd be able to approach it while the props are spinning
<Mehjiir>
I got half my office into kpop

Orum my understanding of magnet wire, is it's just wire with a varnish coating
<Orum>
right, but I don't think you can get 45 AWG wire in any other kind
<Orum>
was wondering what it was used for
<darklight>
What size is mod wire normally
<Orum>
mod wire?
<G-Mobile>
Orum: more tighter windings makes for stronger magnets
<G-Mobile>
tighter is easier with smaller
<Orum>
yes, but with higher impedance
<Orum>
for most applications it doesn't matter though
<G-Mobile>
just add speed holes and you'll be fine

<G-Mobile>

simple yes, but if you want to emulate it a bit more correctly you account for packing efficiency, worse packing efficiency leads to worse performance, therefore the most ideal, tightest wrap is closer to the simple ideal

something used that isnt that expensive but produces good images (still and video) in at least full hd
<Orum>
yeah, you might want to get a Sony body
<VITAS>
i know about how to film but i dont know the market
<Orum>
though I have not looked at their video capability, they have great dynamic range for stills
<Orum>
my Dad has one, I can check it out

<Orum>
kk, I can take some sample video/photos too if you want
<VITAS>
it has to have a wide viarity of inputs
<Orum>
well if you do a 100% video shutter I think you'll be okay
<VITAS>
maybe soem capture device
<VITAS>
home computers might be able to work with analog tv cards
<VITAS>
but professional machines wont i think
<Orum>
well, the problem will be the output of those probably aren't compatible with anything for a modern computer
<Orum>
remember the early PDPs effectively had an oscilloscope
<VITAS>
yes those are only piossible with modern equivalents but im talking about things like pets and so on
<VITAS>
thx
<VITAS>
expensive
<Orum>
yeah :|
<VITAS>
i wasnt prepared to spend that much
<VITAS>
more along the 500 $ line
<Orum>
well you can go cheaper
<Orum>
500 for lens + body?
<VITAS>
yes
<VITAS>
used
<VITAS>
i dont want to get into photogrpahing antilopes at sunset
<Orum>
hrm, yeah... you want a zoom or can you do with a prime?
<VITAS>
i think i dont need to zoom
<Orum>
okay, well you can pick up a used canon body and a EF-S prime (which are VERY sharp) for $500 I imagine
<VITAS>
there are two perspectives i imagine: general outside pictures/videos from afixed distance
<VITAS>
and close ups to record the insides and details
<Orum>
I have a 60mm f/2.8 that's an EF-S lens that is spectacular
<VITAS>
and all of that in constant and optimal light
<Orum>
also have their 100mm f/2.8 (non-L) which isn't quite as good
<Orum>
yeah, for lighting you can go with the cheap clamp lights
<VITAS>
so i was thinking about something liek canon EOS 3 diget line of cameras or similar
<Orum>
yep, I have two bodies, both old
<VITAS>
all i want is to make good videos one would want to watch and not those shaky blury dark stuff some ppl do
<Orum>
450D and a 550D
<Orum>
yeah, you need a good tripod
<VITAS>
yes and there are compeating models from other companies
<Orum>
though those aren't too much
<VITAS>
and my question was: is there any particular model someone can recomend for its value
<Orum>
well I've liked those models, and at the time they were good value
<VITAS>
(e.g. i remember that you could flash the eos 350d with the a hacked firmware that enabled upper class features)
<Orum>
yeah, Magic Lantern
<Orum>
I use that on my cameras, and love it
<darklight>
My sis was considering putting it on her 7d
<darklight>
She uses a 5d atm
<VITAS>
hmm not cheap either i think
<darklight>
She had the IR filter removed and brought IR filters though :P
<Orum>
your sis has a 7d?
<darklight>

<VITAS>
his sis is an artist
<darklight>

heh, your sis has a d, huh? :P
<VITAS>
Panasonic Lumix DMC-G6 <- cheapest new dslr i can find that does fhd
<darklight>
She's more an editor for weddings, but she does do some of her own stuff
<Orum>
yeah I have a Lumix, not their DSLR though
<Orum>
Panasonic usually has the best video features
<VITAS>
Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5 <- cheapest with optics incliuded
<VITAS>
and then theres the nikon D330 and D3400 arroudn the same price
<Orum>
yeah, never used nikon, so can't really say
<VITAS>
hmm
<VITAS>
do both canons you ahve do FHD video?
<Orum>
only the newer of my two bodies does video
<Orum>
but is is FHD (1080p, compressed)
<darklight>
From what I understand, to get a sharp image from a nikon, you need to have a clean and flat surface, then you must sandbag each of the tripod legs, and you must ensure there is not more than 0.5km/h of wind, then you must make sure the stars are aligned and cross your fingers, and then maybe you get a good image
<darklight>
(I joke) :P
<VITAS>
so you dislike nikon?
<Orum>
there's nothing wrong with nikon, I think the main reason I chose canon was I liked their lenses more and they had larger screens
<darklight>
My sister owns a canon and I think she was joking about a bug a nikon camera had ages ago
<VITAS>
ok ill read some reviews
<VITAS>
i wonder if any DSLR can act like a webcam and stream live video to a computer
<VITAS>
so i can use my laptop to monitor video and record it
<Orum>
live video I'm not too sure, it depends on the camera though I bet
<Orum>
why not just record on the camera itself?
<VITAS>
because i dont have to transfer it off the card afterwards and my laptop has a larger screen and its fully callibrated
<Orum>
ah okay, well I know some may be capable but it might require 3rd party software... most tethering though that I know of is for stills
<teabot>

But they will hound you for months
<TheKosmonaut>
And say it is your duty
<GlassYuri>

<TheKosmonaut>
I told them to show me the law that states I *need* to pay the pension on top of my national healthcare fees
<TheKosmonaut>
They never actually can prove that you’re obligated, just that it is *your duty*
<darklight>

<TheKosmonaut>
darklight: It’s not that it’s low, it’s that people are living too long and not making enough babies
<darklight>
So too many old codgers?
<TheKosmonaut>
So the pension system worked great when Japan was in a bubble and it was raking in cash from these businessmen in the 60s-90s
<TheKosmonaut>
And once the bubble burst, Japan has been riding on the huge amount of cash they made, they padded their “profitability” over the years and claimed it’s still going strong but it’s dying out and will implode on itself by the time I reach retirement.
<GlassYuri>
actually the german pension system is expected to collapse as well
<darklight>
So basically, we have to seize the means of production?
<GlassYuri>
no, we just have to do something about the old fucks

Also in other news centerlink recipients will now be drug tested in australia
<RandomJeb>
yeah our system is probably going to stay afloat for a long time on the saved up piles of money, but apart from a slight uptick in old people for a couple of decades I see no reason for the supposed future collapse
<RandomJeb>

if amerifrance nuked iran off the planet; what would happen to the .ir tld
<SilverFox>
is the tld a standard?
<Greys>
?
<SilverFox>
are tlds a part of a standard or something?
iPeer has joined #kspmodders
<Greys>
ICCAN cedes authority over national TLDs to the nation they represent
<SilverFox>
if it's a standard or some shit like that, I'd expect it'd stay
<Greys>
as majiir said last night, he doesn't own maji.ir because Iran demands that your website be wholesome by islamic standards
<SilverFox>
right
<SilverFox>
so we nuke iran to get majiir his .ir tld?

<Greys>
that's the question
<Greys>
if we nuke iran, what happens to the TLD
<Greys>
immediately there would no longer be an authority to operate it, so you wouldn't be able to buy or renew
<Greys>
would ICANN reclaim that authority and keep distributing them? would they immediately revote them all?
<Greys>
of course .ir is just an example
<Greys>
what does icann do when a sovereign state ceases to exist
<Truga>
nothing
<Truga>
they do nothing
<Truga>
see: .yu
<Truga>
oh
<Truga>
they did end up deleting that
<Truga>
that's odd
<SilverFox>
if I wanted a tld that doesnt exist, can I?
<Truga>
depends
<Truga>
are you very rich?

<SilverFox>
so does gliding
<inktop>
quadcoptor stuff is likely to be relatively close to the ground
<SilverFox>
not if i'm flying it
<darklight>
Autorotation is kinda cool
<inktop>
yes but gliding has much less vulnerable failure modes
<darklight>
Although reading about it you need to jump on it quickly
<SilverFox>
100m or bust
<inktop>
autorotation owns
<darklight>
It's really weird, you feather the blades to put as much energy in them as possible and glide forward, and then when you're near the ground you pull the collector and the mass of the blades gives you the energy and lift you need to stay alive :P
<darklight>
Bad explaination, but it makes me feel a little less "helicopters are a death trap"
<darklight>
Also rc helicopters with collective pitch look really fun but I'm not willing to spend *that* much on planes :P
<kmath>
YouTube - THE HARDEST 3D MODEL RC HELICOPTER FLIGHT EVER / HENRIK CLAUSEN GO TO THE LIMIT / Bölsdorf 2016
<inktop>
the way i think of it is each rotor is like a separate glider providing lift to the load (the copter with a dead engine). u set the AoA of the blades so they average out to the best glide angle, and then if that descent is too fast u just pull the collective when u are about to hit the ground
<inktop>
its contracting the idealized 2d problem of landing deadstick into 1 dimension

GlassYuri, I got another kpop song for ya
<Greys>
what is the highest performing web browser on windows currently
<SilverFox>
probably the minimalist one I programmed in java
<GlassYuri>
SilverFox, meh
<Majiir>
Greys, probably Edge
<Greys>
windows 7
<SilverFox>
awww shiiit he's back
<Majiir>
Take the current number of hours since the first Moon landing, divide by 300, and if the number is even, it's Firefox; if the number is odd, it's Chrome.
<Greys>
btw boozjiir, I located a bottle of midori while shopping today, I've literally been searching for two years because they only have one brand, one flavor, and it's smaller then a ketchup bottle
<Greys>
see I think it's neither*
<Greys>
I suspect it's going to be chromium
<Majiir>
That's why I said Edge -.-
<Greys>
but it might be public fork of an older kind of firefox
<Majiir>
We use Edge now for developing our site because FF and Chrome both shit the bed
<Majiir>
when debugging
<Majiir>
Firefox just can't handle stepping through code, and Chrome grinds to a halt on DOM updates
<SilverFox>
so does your site not work on FF/chrome or do you just not test with it?
<Majiir>
The site works, and we support FF and Chrome
<SilverFox>
okay cool
<Majiir>
but using and debugging are two very different things
<Greys>
I'll definitely consider it when I move to w10 but I'm not doing that soon
<SilverFox>
right
<SilverFox>
Im still curious about what the user experience of windows 98 would be like today
<Majiir>
Our site is also not exactly lightweight
<SilverFox>
there's two types of rendering for a webpage right, client and server?
<Greys>
I'm having a very limited experience with mac but I feel like safari is actually super tight if you can live within it's boundaries; but that's on a macbook air 2012(?), which is literally the third weakest mac in the last 8 years
<inktop>
i still use it cause im too lazy to switch
<Majiir>
It's just assembling the HTML that gets sent over
<Majiir>
and on many sites that just means sending over a static file
<inktop>
i've heard opera (even the versions based on chromium) is significantly lighter in weight than chrome proper
<Greys>
I'm not concerned with light weight
<inktop>
well..
<inktop>
thats like one of the main indicators of performance
<SilverFox>
Majiir, sidetrack a bit, im having korean bbq tomorrow and im expected to know things because my family is white as fuck, do you have any tips for cooking the pork or some shit?
<Greys>
I'm extremely annoyed when I click a video in youtube, and 7 seconds later youtube is still deciding to stop playing the current video and change pages
<Majiir>
SilverFox, will there be a Genuine Korean there to do it for you?
<Majiir>
because if so, just let them do it
<inktop>
ya its cause chrome is a ram hog and you've probs an old cpu.
<SilverFox>
there can be, but they're the chefs, and there's like, 3 of them for the whole restaurant
<Majiir>
Often your server will cook your shit for you if you're white
<inktop>
i've heard good things about opera tho like i said, havent used it myself
<Greys>
it's old but it ain't slow, and I have tones of ram
<Greys>
tonnes*
<Majiir>
Greys has DIMMs in forklifts
<inktop>
its not just your system capacity its how the program is using the memory which also puts a load on the cpu
<Greys>
thorobred fish couldn't lift these packages
<inktop>
are u using chrome?
<Greys>
firefox
<Greys>
now I suspect that it's not actually the browser at all
<Greys>
well, not much
<SilverFox>
Majiir, so what if the server i doesn't cook food because the servers are white as fuck as well?
<Majiir>
Cook the meat until it's edible?
<Majiir>
Samgyeopsal should be golden
<SilverFox>
golden, got it
<inktop>
yeah i mean all i would suggest is trying opera. chrome and firefox are both still resource hogs and a processor from 5 years ago will show its age dealing with them
<Greys>
youtube does this really annoying thing that I want to kill with a burning nuclear moon; where whatever browser you're using hands off control of all the shit to youtube's scripts
<inktop>
thats bizzare
<inktop>
never happened to me
<Majiir>
...waT?
<Greys>
when you hit back, youtube's loading bar starts doing stuff, not firefox
<inktop>
uh
<inktop>
idk does yt use html5 now instead of flash for streaming? i think it does
<Majiir>
Yes
<Greys>
similar to the HTML5 vibration API, this is authority pages should not have
<teabot>
Vibratean.
<inktop>
yeah ithats a youtube problem i think
<Greys>
that's for streaming the video, and I'm sure it's related but I'm talking about the thin red bar along the very top of the page
<inktop>
ive never encountered what u describe
<SilverFox>
Majiir, how bouts chadolbaegi? is it just "cook until golden" for all meats?
<Majiir>
Idfk what that is
<Majiir>
Nah just porkbely
<Majiir>
belly*
<Majiir>
and not like super golden
<Majiir>
just a bit golden
<Greys>
I frequently, on all browsers, get into situations where it's more effective to open a link as a new tab and abandon the current one to force my browser to handle the situation instead of handing it off to in page scripting
<SilverFox>
it is a round thinly shaved brisket
<inktop>
anywho greys, you are a big human, you can figure it out. i suspect your problems lie with your browser or your computer is just developing dementia
<Greys>
that's a concern that I cannot currently act on
<inktop>
much like me and my quest to run ksp with 150 mods smoothly
<Greys>
the work computer isn't going to change on my time table, and I'm not budgeting to replace my tower any time soon, maybe next year
<inktop>
you could act on using a different browser
<SilverFox>
darklight once downloaded *all* the mods he could and tried to run ksp
<inktop>
just try it
<inktop>
if it feels better use it
<Greys>
that's a different concern
<Greys>
I can't act on my computers being old
<inktop>
well
<inktop>
idk
<inktop>
seems u are boxing yourself in then
<Greys>
I feel like you've lost your pointer in the conversation
<Greys>
I started this asking about other browsers
<Greys>
you argued strongly that my computers are outdated, and I agree
<Greys>
I can't change my processors at this time, this socket has no upgrade path
<inktop>
im just referring to the browser choice
<inktop>
anywho if you find my advice unsatisfactory well im kinda drunk af right now
<Greys>
32-bit Firefox outperformed 64-bit Waterfox in Peacekeeper browser benchmark tests run by TechRepublic in 2012,[4] and 64-bit Waterfox slightly outperformed 32-bit Firefox in tests run by Softpedia in 2014.[5] However, in 2016 64-bit Waterfox performed worse than 64-bit Mozilla Firefox in the Kraken, SunSpider, JetStream, and Octane 2.0 benchmarks.[6] Benchmarks were once available on the developers website but have since been removed.[7]
<SilverFox>
Softpedia can suck a dick
<SilverFox>
like, every STD infested dick
<inktop>
guhh
<inktop>
anywho im using a core2 duo running win7 and i have zero hangs on youtube videos
<Greys>
I should make a video of this, but when I click on a recommended video, a red line crosses from left to right across the top of the page, while firefox doesn't register that a page transition is happening; the refresh button doesn't turn into a stop button
<Greys>
when I click on a bookmark a page transition is happening and the button does change
<Greys>
this is ignoring the concept of videos and just dealing with pages
<Greys>
Majiir, do you have a website with particularly OP hosting?
<Majiir>
Nope
<Greys>
when you host sites, do you enforce any kind of QoS or go the natural selection route?
<Greys>
looking through alternate forks of firefox and chrome, seems like a tough market; there's only a couple real options from firefox and they're either questionably relevant or defunct; and most chrome forks focus on catering to alternate privacy demands
<Greys>
definitely going to try out chromium tonight but I think firefox is a dead end
<Greys>
there's 3 pins on each the carrier and button module, and the pins made with a shrouded bullseye on the next piece
<SilverFox>
nope
<Greys>
this is going to be more challenging than I expected to put lithium into
<Majiir>
Greys, not sure what you mean by QoS on the server end
<Majiir>
Autoscaling is generally how you avoid hugs of death
<Majiir>
The stuff we do at work is all on our own hardware so we don't have that option
<Greys>
oh wait, sorry, the battery carrier has four pins on it's male end
<Greys>
Majiir, do you process every request as fast as possible or have a dedicated volume of resources any request can be allocated
<Majiir>
The former
<Greys>
mmkay
<Greys>
I suspect with services like twitter it's the lattttttte
<Majiir>
You'd be surprised
<Greys>
I am frequently
<Majiir>
It's way more about load balancing
<Majiir>
You might have a peak concurrency limit
<Majiir>
e.g. only 500 requests handled simultaneously per node, and one must complete before another can begin; but usually that's done at a different level, like a TCP connections limit or somesuch
<Majiir>
It depends greatly on the application
<Majiir>
Generally speaking, the rate at which you can respond slows down as you're put under load anyway, so in most applications there's a natural effect as opposed to a designed one
